No DNI, policing or anything of the like, we die like adults. I'm a big fan of evil characters, I like dark topics in fiction and simply artistic freedom.
I like various franchises & at the moment I have none I hyper-focus on (so various fan art ahead), but to still name a few:
Inuyasha, Bleach, Dragonball, Hellsing, Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner, Love and Deepspace, Bayonetta, Kuromi, Yakuza, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ranma 1/2, Chainsaw Man, Ghibli, Jujutsu Kaisen, Killing Stalking, Arcane, Panty & Stocking, Dorohedoro, Naruto, Space Dandy, JJBA, Yu-Gi-Oh!, The Emperor's New Groove, Kpop Demon Hunters...
Some favorite characters:
Ginjo, Bankotsu, Sangwoo, Eris (Sinbad), Bayonetta, Choso, Orochimaru, Toji, Chun-li, Diego, Dio, Rei Ayanami, Eboshi, Sevika, Grimmjow, Kirari Momobami, Miguel O’hara, Naraku, Homelander, Judar, Kira Yoshikage, Rohan, Han Joon-gi...

a lot of art platforms tend to fail, since it is mainly artists then and thus lacks the average user you get from social media, thus your art will reach less people, which also can mean way less clients for commissions. So these sites tend to be less attractive and why bother then... it is also kind of a hassle to update all your social media accounts, so some may focus just on the more popular ones.
Scrolling & Algorithm.
it sure is addicting, what's next? How interesting will it be? Will I find something better? - I still remember how it was by DA, I had a lil row with thumbnails of those I followed in my messages as updates. I doubt this would work today, but seeing everything small, sure gives greater overview and less chance to maybe miss something. FA still has it this way.
Categories
I found it so tiresome to upload pictures on DA, since there was so much to fill out, especially with finding the right category. As tiresome as it was, it was a lifesaver in finding certain art. Especially tutorials. Nowadays art tutorials are in the void of social media, since not everyone uses tags, especially on Twitter. Same with Brushes. It was simply easier to find.
Audience
I remember when I joined DA, I was surprised how even as a newbie, my art was found and liked...I got around 1 - 50 likes. Groups helped too. And that brings me back to that tweet, it definitely made me wonder where young artists go now... tiktok I've heard and read, but for the life of me I cannot imagine, that you can build there the same community as on an actual art platform... also in comments there sure is always lots of negativity too, at least in popular ones.
At the top I mentioned the issue that most art platforms tend to fail in being active, since mainly (busy) artists, but oddly enough on old DA was peak activity... maybe because other social media was not really used for art so much yet, idk... I joined Twitter & Insta super late. Recently I used vgen more properly, commissioned some other artists and I do like how the main page is just filled with art and I can explore so many artists, tho with the invite codes, it sure is just a limited view still - as in not everyone can share their work yet. Also a pure commission platform and not every artist does those.
Meanwhile, while I like tumblr for its somewhat functional tagging system, due to the timeline page, and me being busy, def miss out on lots of posts.
I definitely keep hoping that one day, somehow a good art platform comes into existence again, which is not a mere portfolio but where you have a community. Especially for younger artists, ... my friend's sister is getting into art and I just thought, damn... idk what platform I can recommend.
Digital Dreams: The Work of the Sony Design Center (Paul Kunkel)
What a timing to get an old book (1999) about Sony's creations, right before they announced no physical CD releases anymore for their Games. - I've got it from Ebay UK, and possibly only one person in 2006 lend it for a while, makes it extra charming it came from a library. Made me wonder how they decide which books get removed. (Cause it sure as hell hard to find any online listings which don't ruin your wallet).
I'm still on my nostalgia trip, but also thx to tiktok... darn, finding a certain charm in some retro designs, but also because it's knowing that no AI was involved in those creative processes... I even bought a book about "All-American Ads of the 2000s" ... imagine, finding old ads inspiring...
I wish Ppl wouldn't use AI voice overs for their videos, mostly because they sound really annoying. And those who may sound normal, still got that eerie touch, tho sometimes it is hard to tell at first... YouTube sometimes recommend me videos of random topics and when I don't see a person talking, it is most likely AI, especially when there is not really any graphics but mostly small video or pictures about different scenes, more diashow like..., like you can kinda tell there went less work into it. I think I got too used to Youtubers showing their face, or at least when they don't, that the video got more personal touch, or VTuber.
Since a lot of artists use AI Voice Overs, I wonder if that is the more acceptable form of AI? At least those models, where they got the VA's consent, or idk how they are done. How it's on the environment, idk, if it's more minimal. Some say it's kinda LLM, or gen AI... in my quick search I didn't really become smarter about this topic.
I definitely understand why it is used, it's more engaging (tho if it's that high pitched tiktok voice, gotta swipe fast) and not everyone is fluent in English, or has a voice that's pleasant to listen to. Some videos I didn't continue watching, even if a real human was there, simply because it did not sound good to me, but some also have no good scripts. Mood may play a role too, atm I'm mostly listening to Ambient Music, so lower tolerance as well.
I hope I can keep my VA's at least, in Germany Netflix wanted to use their voices for training AI and luckily they protested, but ofc they simply don't hire them anymore and use other VA's... I really hope the worst case won't happen. Germany sucks at doing good movies, but VA wise I find them pretty good. Ofc there is also a chance, that all those Superstars offer their voice for gen AI for $ and it may come down to that no Hollywood movie needs voice acting anymore... god I hope not.
