This is my personal practice log, so that I can both plan for the next practice and keep track of my progress and difficulties. If you're seeing this in the wild, feel free to ignore.
Warm-Up: Cue Ball Down the Colour Spots
Objective: Straight cueing consistency.
Performance: Seeing progress but not perfect.
Challenges: Unintentional side on the right-hand side.
Successes: 3 good shots in a row where the cue ball came back to the tip. A lot of the shots were "close enough" to the tip.
Reflections:
- Would like to see a more fluid follow-through.
- Better result with a slightly more relaxed grip.
- Experimented with a more diagonal stance to avoid being hindered by boobs.
Next Steps: Continue warming up this way, aim for 5+ good shots in a row.
Drill 1: Potting the Cue Ball in Each Pocket from the Brown Spot.
Objective: Enhance accuracy and control by potting the cue ball into each pocket from the baulk line.
Performance: Acceptable but not systematically good. Need more practice.
Challenges: Difficulties with the top left pocket, as the cushion and table is in the way of my bridge hand, which makes me prefer using my non-dominant hand for this particular pocket.
Successes: Long pots are still somehow easier. Also seen improvements using my non-dominant hand.
Reflections: Overall satisfied with the results for this stage of the learning process.
Next Steps: Continue to include this drill in my regular practice until I instinctively know the angles from the brown spot.
Drill 2: Colour Potting Practice
Objective: Practice potting colour balls from their spots.
Performance: Much more tedious and needed several tries to get it right.
Challenges: Absolutely hate the yellow/top left pocket. Potted it from my non-dominant hand. I might have to use the rest in the future if I want to avoid the jeopardy of that.
Successes: Very happy about the positioning of the cue ball from the brown to the blue.
Reflections: Not bad for a first attempt at potting the colours but needs a lot more work.
Next Steps: Continue potting practice without worrying about positioning in order to get the angles right first, then start including positioning strategies.
Summary: Satisfactory improvement
Mood: Focused, except for the fact I had a headache.
Key Learnings: Straight cueing is getting much better in term of quality and consistency but potting and angles are still challenging.
Action Plan: Maintain colour potting and straight cueing as routine drills. Once simple colour potting gets better, start working on lineups.
