OMG this is going to sound like a cop out i already know but basically right. for a long time when i was younger i was convinced we were inherently evil and i mean you could not tell me otherwise. i was like, literally just talk to your boss or read the news for irrefutable proof. then i grew up a bit and i flipped the switch in my head and i was like wait there's no way! we've only survived this long as a species through collaboration and empathy like. we must be - at least -somewhat inherently good or we wouldn't have even gotten this far. i wanted to believe that for a long time, and i did. but the more i thought about it the more i had to admit it didn't really work either, didn't really match up to my lived experiences or the image i had of the world as it evolved around me. so now i'm just kind of in this weird limbo where i really don't think humanity, by virtue of its mere existence, fits into either box - we're not born villians, saviours, perpetrators or victims. it would be far too convenient for us to collectively fit a storybook narrative of good and evil, for our trajectory as human beings to be neat and sensical and on a constant uptick. but i just don't think it's going to work out like that in the end. we're too varied and complicated and trapped. and we're the only ones judging ourselves by the man made standard of human morality anyway. and i do believe genuine good and evil exists, and that people can and do inhabit these roles (mainly due to a mixture of nature and nurture.) but as a group we don't really seem to be inherently dark sided nor are we inherently pure, we just are. that's why it's so fucking chaotic all the time. this was a very long way of saying i don't know!!
