 2. No ship wars. â Itâs no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. â
â Weâre all mad here. Iâm mad. Youâre mad. â
â Why, sometimes Iâve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. â
â If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isnât. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldnât be. And what it wouldnât be, it would. You see? â
â Who in the world am I? Ah, thatâs the great puzzle. â

â One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others. â
â Why is a raven like a writing-desk? â

Ugh, so Holmes is actually kind of? My favourite person?
So the thing is like, I kind of came back to the HP RP community not knowing what to expect, and feeling a little bad just because like, I came in with this complicated, completely different AU, Iâd been on this huge break away from the community, and I was like, fuck...
And Holmes sort of immediately was like, okay, get me up to speed, letâs chat - and like, I cannot name a blog that puts in more focused, detailed attention to building up individual characters in the realistic, three-dimensional way they ought be built up. Just looking at @veritasmaleficarum, Iâm always astonished to see so many very different muses developed in their very different ways, with so much focus upon stuff like canon details, world-building, historical accuracy, and straight up creative forethought!
Iâm just delighted whenever Holmes posts something new or mentions something to be on Discord, frankly, and Iâm so so glad to be back in the HPRC! <3 You should follow Holmes everywhere!Â

In truth, Jack didnât quite know what to make of him. There was something in Potterâs manner that appeared almost EARNEST, putting it in direct conflict with his urge to be suspicious of the boyâs motives in being down here. As the barmaid returned with their drinks, Jack reached into his pocket and pushed a few sickles into her hand, before taking his own and meandering over to an empty table.
â Something like that. Afraid Iâm not at liberty to say much either, mate. â
There was something knowing in his eyes as he glanced back at him, wondering how Harry might take his deliberate test. Given his own line of work, he couldnât be too careful; having a well-known investigative journalist sniffing too closely around his line of work was flirting too closely with the idea of TROUBLE. Operating under the radar of the Ministry was difficult enough.
â Whoâs your guide? Strait-laced seems like a rather dull trip out to me. â
         âCaptain HANNON,â
Harry speaks mildly, doing his best to keep the small element of distaste out of his voice: he hadnât at all cared for Hannon, an American ex-navy man, who had talked at length about the wonders of war, and how he wished to be called to action. It had left Harry with a bad taste in his mouth, particularly when paired with Hannonâs biting adherence to schedule and naval discipline. He leans back in his seat, taking a sip of his drink, and he quickly scans the room, keeping a look out.
âA DULL TRIP, Iâm sure it wonât be,             though I admit, I wish I could just do the trip on my own.â
âI have some skill with water manipulation, but I couldnât sail myself.            I hate having to answer questions and obey orders                       - but I guess you know what thatâs like?           Being a captain yourself, I mean?â
it isn't munday, but perhaps it's time to think about whether you've been naughty or nice...

harry potter: the actual nightmare that lives under every death eaterâs bed
âYouâve got to let them know what kind of guy you are.â
âť MAD MEN 1x01 SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES SENTENCE STARTERS âť
âThey know what kind of guy I am.â
He takes a drag of the cigarette, turns to the younger man, GRINS.Â
âThat red carpet wasnât carpet, Regulus,                   and it wasnât here before I arrived this morning.â
Behind them, the house is tall, and at a gust of wind, the windows rattle. Thereâs a scent of blood in the air, and Harry is in exceedingly good spirits.
âShall we OFF? My work here is done.â
âSo, youâre going to ply me with drinks and convince me what a terrible mistake Iâm making.â
âť MAD MEN 1x01 SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES SENTENCE STARTERS âť
âItâs either that or hold a knife to your throat.         I thought alcohol more fun.â
The retort comes in a mild tone, friendly and light, and is even ended with a soft chuckle, but Harryâs expression is distracted, and even as he sips from his own bottle, he stares out over the side of the ship. The sun has long since set, and the sky is an expanse of deep black, stars twinkling in the distance, a crescent moon lighting the water.
Harry thinks of Albus Dumbledoreâs robes, embroidered with the moon and stars, and he tastes the burn of rum in the back of his throat. Perhaps that joke was too far: Jack has seen the way Harry uses a knife by now, and perhaps itâs a little too close to a real threat.Â
The promise comes as a sudden afterthought: a peaceable assurance.Â
âI wouldnât hold a knife to your throat.â
âThat must have come across as absolutely mad, Iâm sorry:                   I donât know what I was thinking."
ââSuppose if gran thinks that is reason enough⌠Not like I couldâve done anything about it even if I wanted to. Gran is very opinionated, he should be lucky she didnât do worse,â still, though, Neville thinks he mightâve met him once or twice if only because most editors like to appear at the big parties they can. They all seem to want nothing more than for the parties to blow up, too.
âAt least sheâs home sometimes this year, was worried sheâd tire herself out by being out and about all the timeâ âcourse, sheâs also too stubborn to let it show so you never really knowâŚâ shrugging, he gives the plant heâs working on one last pat before moving on to a slightly more stubborn one.
OPINIONATED!
Thatâs the word for Augusta Longbottom if ever there was one, and Harry grins a little, pulling himself up onto the sill and settling there. Victor Langley is a friendly sort, handsome and tall and charistmatic - he tends to introduce himself, especially to potential readers. Harry wonders if Neville does read Wizardâs Staff, or any of the other teen magazines.
Somehow, he canât quite imagine it.Â
âI know,â Harry murmurs. He thinks of the old woman, glancing down at his hands, and says, âBut if we were her age, I guess we wouldnât want to act it either.â

âOf course I love you. Iâm giving up my life to be with you, arenât I?â

âYou look like a hundred bucks.â
âIf I was worried, Iâd ask you what youâve got, but Iâm not, so Iâm just going to assume youâve got something, which means you should be worried.â
âSo you came here because you wanted to watch me get dressed?â
âThatâs very funny, itâs not what I meant.â
âYou missed a button.â
âShould we drink before the meeting or after? Or both?â
âYou seem more relaxed than I expected.â
âWe must police ourselves.â
âWeâre supposed to believe that people are all living one way and secretly thinking the exact opposite? Thatâs ridiculous.â
âJust give me the damn report.â
âI donât want to hear about it anymore.â
âGood luck at the meeting. Iâm sure itâll be a quick one.â
âI know itâs my first day, and I donât want to seem uncooperative, but do I have to?â
âI brought you some aspirin.â
âYou are tough to take first thing in the morning, Pete.â
âSorry about Mr. Campbell, here. He left his manners back at the fraternity house.â
âYou are good with words, Draper.â
âKeep it up, and even if you do get my job, youâll never run this place.â
âNo one will like you.â
âWell, why donât we make ourselves comfortable?â
âIâm not here to judge you.â
âI really am a very responsible person.â
âWe obviously have very different ideas.â
âGentlemen, I really thought you could do better than this.â
âLetâs not get emotional here, thereâs no reason we canât talk this out.â
âIâm kind of counting on you to help me out.â
âThereâs plenty of room at the top.â
âA man like you, Iâd follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldnât be the first.â
âWhat the hell are you talking about, are you insane?â
âAt least we know that if we have this problem, everybody has this problem.â
âBefore you leave, can I just say something?â
âWell, gentlemen, I donât think I have to tell you what you just witnessed here.â
âAdvertising is based on one thing: happiness. And you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. Itâs freedom from fear. Itâs a billboard on the side of the road that screams with reassurance that, whatever youâre doing, itâs okay. You are okay.â
âHavenât you had enough of my magic for one day?â
âYouâre a whore.â
âI heard you were amazing in the meeting.â
âFear stimulates my imagination.â
âSo, youâre going to ply me with drinks and convince me what a terrible mistake Iâm making.â
âYou got in trouble, didnât you?â
âCan I ask you a personal question?â
âAre you asking whatâs wrong with me?â

âI strive for a world where all children are loved.â
Fate/Apocrypha starters ep 18 & 19
Harry is very quiet.Â
It is raining outside, and the heavy patter of the drops on the window is welcome in the silence of the room, and he leans with his shoulder against the cool stone of the outer wall, watching the grassy banks outside. Professor Andrewsâ office is as nice as any of the professorsâ offices, but most important is the window that Harry can sit by. He had considered leaving the door ajar when heâd first entered, but that would have seemed strange: the window, at least, offers the illusion of an open room.
Harry didnât have to return to Hogwarts. He had completed his O.W.L.s, and legally he might have applied for recognition as a legal adult, despite being only sixteen. He had fought Voldemort in the war, after all, and fought Death Eaters alike: even if the full story of his involvement isnât known to the vast majority of the wizarding world, he had been involved enough.
How many lives has he taken in the past two years? Thirty seven. Thirty seven - and those are just the ones he outright killed, face-to-face, with a spell or a weapon. That doesnât count the Death Eaters that died by each otherâs hands because of Harryâs machinations, or the more indirect murders, or those that Sirius killed, that Remus killed.Â
It had been Minervaâs idea that Harry be given a mentor of sorts on the Hogwarts staff for his sixth year - a member of staff, he didnât have too much contact with during the war, someone he could trust, someone who would be able to offer him guidance. Horace Slughorn has returned to Hogwarts, reprising his role as Potions Master, and Aurora Sinistra is Head of Slytherin House.Â
Severus Snape is dead, after all.Â
FIRST NAMES. Thatâs the first big problem - he knows most of the staff too well, now, for them to be entirely objective. Minerva, Filius, Albus, all, he knows in ways he wouldnât were he a normal student, had the last year gone very differently. But a year long war - hadnât they been lucky? Harry doesnât feel lucky.
Sheâs talking. What had he asked her? He doesnât remember.
He is aware, suddenly, of the wetness on his cheeks. He reaches up, touches the tears, stares blankly at the wetness clinging to his fingers as if looking at an entirely foreign object. His eyes donât feel connected to his head: he doesnât feel connected to himself.Â
"I strive for a world where all children are loved.â
Harry turns to look at her. Professor Andrews is taller than Harry is: heâs grateful that sheâs sitting down, even if he would prefer a desk between them. He doesnât like to be too close to anybody right now, and can barely stand the intimacy of sharing a bedroom with Draco down in the Slytherin dormitories, even with his curtains tightly closed. Where all children are loved... Yes, Harry wants that too. Isnât that what all the war was about? Making sure children were safe? Loved? Alive?
âI see why Theodore thinks so highly of you.                     He loves children, but youâd know that, I guess.â
Harry tightens his fist slightly, feeling the slow drag of his finger pads across his palm and focusing on that sensation. Theodore talks highly of all the other Jewish people at Hogwarts, but Professor Andrews especially - always.Â
âHeâs going to be a great rabbi.â
Why is he talking about Theodore Nott? Heâs supposed to be talking about himself, isnât he? He doesnât want to talk: thatâs the issue at the heart of it. He wants to crawl into the lake and lie on the bottom, stare up at the lakeâs surface, where no one will look at him, talk to him, brush against him in the corridors.
And what can he tell this woman anyway? That he killed thirty seven people? That he would have killed more, if he had to? That the war has crashed and burned around him, and that he doesnât know what to do now, without it?
That last bit sounds okay.
âI didnât expect to live this long.â
No. Too blunt. Too harsh. Too shocking. Why canât he just write this down? At least he can temper things, then, make them simpler.Â
âI mean-- Thatâs not what I meant.                I meant I meant to die.â
Thatâs worse. For fuckâs sake, heâs coming across as suicidal, and he closes his eyes tightly, pressing his head against the cool stone.Â
âNot what I meant either. What--                What happened to Severus. To Severus Snape.     Him dying, Voldemort dying.             I didnât know he was going to do that: I was going to do that.â
Harry clenches and unclenches his fists, gritting his teeth and staring furiously out of the window: why is he talking like this? He sounds like a mirror thatâs losing its enchantment, nonsense tumbling out of his mouth in waves. And to a basic STRANGER.Â
âIâm sorry. This was a terrible idea.       You donât need to hear this.â
Children are not their fathers.
