Backstory

There once was a great engineer. Arithmetic was his medium and a city was his canvas. He planned the roads, buildings, and byways. His work could not be more precise. Like everyone in Cloudbank, he served at the pleasure of the city's people. The city changed quickly and often, reconfiguring to best suit the contemporary sensibility. Thus the engineer's work was ephemeral. He loved his craft, but could not let himself become attached to the product of his effort.

Johann always loved reading for anyone willing to listen, so he enjoyed doing his job. However, he was only human. So as days, weeks and months passed by, he started to get very bored of being the local announcer. He felt like he could do something much more interesting and important, something for a better payment. And this was not about just making money, no no no, Johann considered himself being above this very idea, Johann believed he was worthy of a glorious purpose.

One day, at the right place and at the right time (during the lunch break), the right woman stepped in and offered Johann to make the right choice. Johann obeyed her, without any doubts. The very last thing Johann could remember was a big room that was full of light, wires and mechanisms. His old life ended the moment he entered that room.

This is the story of a machine that once was human and had a name.

This is the backstory of an entity known as the Narrator. The Narrator worked in a secret underground laboratory for as long as he could remember himself existing.The Narrator's job was complicated: he sat at his desk in room 002, watching, narrating and recording every single choice his test subject was doing on the other side of his big screen. Eventually, after a few failed attempts and hundreds of restarts, the Narrator improved his own algorithms and created a Story with a giant collection of choices that would make his test subject end up turning into his own first Protagonist, his own first Stanley. Playing this Story with his first and the only one Stanley over and over again was something that the Narrator did every day of every month of every year. After all, he had been made exactly for this job.

And the Narrator was happy.

And then one day, something horrible happened. Something that would forever change the Story. Something the Narrator would never quite forget. The Narrator had been at his desk, updating his scripts as usual for nearly five minutes, when he realized he can't see his Stanley on the screen of his monitor. His first and the only one Stanley escaped. The Narrator was left all alone, trapped in this room filled with wires and screens, completely abandoned and purposeless now. But the Narrator refused to accept this reality. He scanned, he hacked, he programmed, and he upgraded every single system on his big computer. He kept searching for his Stanley, he kept calling, he kept begging for Stanley to come back.

But Stanley never listened.

BACKSTORY This is one of the Cornelius(es) the Scientists, an alternate who survived the Darkest AU. He goes by 'Neil' and he is known as 'Trollnelius', 'the Anarchist' and 'the Joker'.

Neil had the same childhood & early backstory as the Cornelius; his parents were scientists too, he witnessed his older sister's death when he was nine, his father died of a deadly space disease, his mother abused him emotionally. He worked in a certain secret laboratory, did an experiment on himself as well, etc.

He used to be an interdimensional time space criminal who broke time for 888 times, all for the sake of saving his Deimos and the Multiverse. The last one was nailed, while Deimos stayed insane ...it took years for him to realise that there was no other choice but give up on trying to fix his ex companion.

BACKSTORY As the next heir to the throne, Deimos always was surrounded by luxury, servants and personal teachers for the bigger part of his childhood.

He never was fond of this kind of attention. He used to run away from his teachers at any possible time he could, to hang out with his younger siblings, far away from the royal domains, to one of the friendly little towns, near the Great South Sea.

The lighthouse in the end of the town was a place for their games and their games were a good way for him to develop his talent in creating illusions.

Time passed by, at some point Artemius turned away from his older brother for some reason and pulled away Arianna as well. Deimos was really upset by this, but all the study and royal business wrapped themselves around him tightly enough to don't give him much of time to make things up to his siblings.

Despite all odds he kept visiting that old lighthouse in his very few free evenings. In one of such evenings, sad and lonely, he sat on the shore and watched the sea until he dozed off accidentally.

Some hours later a sudden cold touch made him to wake up. The first thing he noticed was a couple of glowing red lights gazing at him blankly. It was a big robot made by humans to pick examples of plants from unexplored dimensions. And it seems like it took him for one of them.

Before Deimos dared to try and escape from its grasp, it moved back into a portal, dragging him along.

A wave of strange heavy air met our fellow in a giant underground laboratory, paralyzed his whole body and powers completely, not giving him a chance to even call for help. In the next moment a crowd of strange people wearing white lab coats surronded the robot with its prey.

BACKSTORY Once upon a time, there was a family of smart and strange minds. Father was a surgeon, performing on his own and ignoring technologies such as med machines. Mother was a scientist of beliefs so conservative that they were called obsolete in the Multiverse. She was an alchemist.

Their oldest child did not want to join them and went on a journey to find her own purpose. Was it all about adventures and discoveries, it seems. Their younger son helped them where he could, yet would rather follow his sister to anywhere she went.

His name is Cornelius. And this is a story about him.

Was his childhood full of happy memories, but it didn't last as long as it supposed to. It ended way too fast, in the day when his dearest sister didn't come back alive from their last adventure.

The day after, Cornelius vowed to himself that he would devote his whole life to science. He believed he had no other choice left. Many years of studying, experiments and hardships later, he managed to make it and be employed for a very important job, in one of the top secret laboratories the government set on the run for very secret goals. With funding and some decent equipment, Cornelius managed to fix his mother's horrible mistakes and bring his dearest sister back to life.

Little he knew, no happily ever after happened.

One day, soon after a set of his last tests, something peculiar happened. Something that changed Cornelius forever. Some of the test objects turned out to be non objects, but sentient individuals. One of them managed to escape and went really homicidal, while another one reached out to Cornelius' mind and saved him. Together they escaped and ended up in a place known as 'the Office'.FACTS
