typewritten manuscripts gathering dust and a desk full of old sewing notions dot matrix printer feed smelling of must and nyquil so old it's a potion albums and cases of photos and slides mixed black and white, faded, and vivid tchotchkes and crystal and places cats hide and fu dogs and paintings and dishes

truly we're more than the sum of our stuff and the ghosts of the people we carry but mem'ry is fragile and its loss is rough: reminders make memories tarry. the places that linger inside of our heads and the people we might miss forever remain if they're willing, until we are dead and the objects and memories sever
