The Divine Art of Ayami Kojima
Ayami Kojima started her career as a free lance illustrator when she was actually working as a secretary. According to several web pages, Ajami Kojima does not have any formal degree in visual arts nor design, but she has been a self-educated artist from the very beginning. In a Wikipedia article regarding Ayami Kojima, it is stated the she commonly employs different kinds of media when painting her illustrations like “molding paste, Conté Crayon, acrylics, India ink, gloss polymer medium, stumps and finger smudging”. These mixture of material and techniques give birth to illustrations that not only inspire meaningful dark-heavenly symbolism, but also create characters with a deep sense of aesthetic and profound personalities.
Her art style has been Konami´s hallmark since she worked for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami, 1997). Alucard, the favourite half-blood vampire, was her greatest achievements in all her carrer. She likes shonen manga, surgery images and suspense-terror movies. She argues that suspense-terror movies represent a powerfull source of inspiration for her illustration process.
