Not so New Kid {asking-near}

His cheeks tinted darker and he slowly released Near’s hand, assured he wouldn’t leave. 

Near looked up at him “Matt, may I ask why you are blushing?” He asked as he twirled a piece of his own hair between his fingers “You do not have to be nervous around me, if that is the case.”

Matt blushed a bit more. “I’m, uh, not used to being complimented.” He looked off to the side. “It doesn’t happen often so I guess I get a bit flustered.” It was obvious that Matt was picking his words carefully. 

Near blinked “Hm, well I do not see why not, you are very kind, like I said previously.” He watched his every movement, every facial change, Near was very good at reading people, so it was like he could read his mind almost.

"I, uh,  I'm just not good at this kind of thing to be honest. Like, I'm trying really hard to not sound like an idiot." 

Beyond couldn't help but smile at his action, "you get pretty excited over stuff like this, don't you?" he asked, staring at him ruffle through various things, "almost like a child, very cute."

That word again. Matt's face turned hot. "I told you to stop that. I am not cute." He grabbed the crystal when he found it. "Got it!"

Beyond continued to watch the young redhead and he followed him, “well, it’s just a personal preference really,” he said, biting onto his index finger, he stared at the flower he held and arched a curious...

He nodded, he placed the glass that held the flower in place on the counter, "that's fairly interesting I have to admit," he muttered, glancing at the younger boy, "what are you looking for now?" he asked

"Fluorite crystals that were carved into skulls..." He hummed and looked around. His eyes lit up. "Oh!" He jumped over the counter.

He picked up a picture frame from Matt’s night stand and the redhead tried to grab it back. “Don’t touch that!” Mello dodged Matt and smirked. “Aw come on, I’m just looking.” He waved the picture frame around. “Seriously Mello knock it off.” He tried to grab it again but Mello sidestepped him. Matt’s shoulder knocked the blond’s and the frame fell from his hands breaking. Matt groaned and glared at the blond. “What do you want?” Mello’s eyes narrowed. “If you get in my way like earlier again you’ll regret it.” With that the blond was out the door. “Whatever.”

Near peaked out of the bathroom, he saw how his picture was smashed and he already knew “I am sorry, Matt.” He exited fully before kneeling down to pick up some of the glass shards “I am sorry, for I caused this, and I want to assure you that you do not have to aid me with my issues with Mello anymore.” He said calmly placing the frame on a nearby table “I will go now, for I do not want to cause you anymore problems, thank you for your hospitality, Matt.” He nodded before heading for Matt’s door, in hopes that he wouldn’t follow or stop him.

Matt took Near’s hand gently to stop him. “It’s not your fault at all. I chose to get involved.” He looked over at the picture of his parents and his uncle. “And I don’t regret it. Not at all.” His eyes moved back to Near’s. He gave a wide smile. “Let’s be friends Near.” 

Near looked at Matt “Are you sure about this decision? I have never had a friend before, so this is quite new to me.” He looked at their hands “I also must say that you are very kind, may I ask why you have been so kind to me?”

"I’m sure. Everyone needs a friend." Matt also looked at their hands. His cheeks turned a dusty pink at the compliment. "I just don’t like seeing people sad." He chewed on his lip. 

Near noticed this, which made him smile slightly, but not enough to where it was a noticeable smile, he simply kept his sights on Matt “Hm, well thank you, Matt. You have very good morals, and a nice way of thinking.”

Beyond nodded, he tilted his head, almost thinking, he snaked his hand over the other's shoulder and reached for the flower trapped glass, "so tell me, how exactly does this work again? if you smell it you get a cardiac attack?"

"Well the drug that can be made from it can when it's in it's purest form." Matt looked over his list again, trying to remember where these items were.

Near then transferred himself to his bathroom closet, he would listen in from there, in hopes that Mello would not enter the bathroom.

He picked up a picture frame from Matt’s night stand and the redhead tried to grab it back. “Don’t touch that!” Mello dodged Matt and smirked. “Aw come on, I’m just looking.” He waved the picture frame around. “Seriously Mello knock it off.” He tried to grab it again but Mello sidestepped him. Beyond’s eyes seemed to sparkle at his words, “now, that is a very interesting object,” he pointed out, his blank expression was replaced with a mischievous grin, “how did you manage to achieve that, Matty?” he asked, leaning over his shoulder to stare at the rare flower, he wasn’t much to care for anyone’s “personal spacee”, either.

"It was a trade off. I got this for a female shrunken head, pretty rare but we had 2, it was worth it." He nodded to himself. "Definitely worth it." It sounded more like he was trying to assure himself than Beyond.

"Autumn Crocus. It's filled with colchicine, a drug so powerful that it can cause an immediate cardiac arrest. Colchicine is used in the treatment of gout but unlike poisons from the other flowers, this one has no antidote. Very rare."

He stared down at him, maintaining his position, “why are you apologizing?” he asked, his eyes holding their gaze upon the other’s

Beyond continued to stare at his eyes in the mirror, confused as to why he might even think that. He tapped his lips with an index finger, almost in deep thought, "I like you eyes too, Matty," he muttered out loud, "I like people with green eyes."

Matt's cheeks turned a dusty pink again. "They're nothing special really." He pulled out a flower that was stuck between two sheets of glass. "Ah, ha!" He made his way back to the counter and checked something off on the notepad. 

He stared down at him, maintaining his position, “why are you apologizing?” he asked, his eyes holding their gaze upon the other’s

"For not being afraid I guess." Matt’s green eyes studied Beyond’s red ones. He pulled his goggles…

He furrowed his eyebrows and stared back at him, he retrieved his arm back and he turned to look at him, “look at what?”

"You’ve got nice eyes."

He arched an eyebrow, unsure of what to think of his random compliment, “uhm….” he looked at his reflection on a Mirror next to him, staring at his red eyes, “thank you?”

Matt nodded and stared for a few more seconds before letting go. He moved back to the shelves and searched them. 

He stared down at him, maintaining his position, “why are you apologizing?” he asked, his eyes holding their gaze upon the other’s

"For not being afraid I guess." Matt’s green eyes studied Beyond’s red ones. He pulled his goggles...
