[*The radio crackles to life, a stark contrast to the eerie silence of the room before. A voice echoes through, tired and rough.] āTesting, testing. Is anyone there? Can any human or monster confirm? Testing, testing. This is Doctor Oisin of the Royal Research Facility, reaching out.ā
[At the sound of the radio spitting out words, Simon jolts. It wasn't the same woman who'd sent him down here, but- it was someone.]
Hello? I'm here. I'm here! I quit, I don't want to be down here any more, I keep telling you, there's- there's something else.
Oh, that was Virelian, mi asrynid's first language. Pretty simple, once you understand the basic grammar rules. Vowels only make one sound; most words are just roots with prefixes or suffixes that alter the meaning; there's only one set of verb conjugations. Stuff like that.
[A tinge of enthusiasm laces the words, his lips quirking up in the barest of smiles as he spoke.]
I've always been a sucker for languages. I loved my English and French classes in school. Started learning Dutch and Korean on my own, too.
[He glances at Simon, giving a slight shrug.]
I could teach you a bit of any of them sometime, if you'd like. I'm sure mi asrynid would be glad if you learned Virelian. They, uh...they still struggle with English at times. Not that they'd ever admit it.
-ā³ (fun fact! Virelian is an actual conlang I'm making. I haven't worked on it a ton lately, but the bare bones are there)
(And I completely understand if you're gone for another few days. Take all the time you need <3)
Ah, a linguist, then? Seems like you know a lot. Did you study languages, or was it more of a pasttime?
[Simon nods along at Kazimir's words. If he really was spending the rest of his life...here, maybe learning something new would help fill the days.]
Sure, Kaz. I'd love to have you teach me.
You deserve spa day. Go have spa day
@ellli-the-blood-eel
Wish I could tell you I knew what that was, El-
What's a spa?
[Static comes through on the speaker before the sound of crying as well as half-hearted threats follows.]
Can't you just leave me alone?... I'll never go into the light.. You've been trying for- I- I don't even know how long... You know I won't do it...
[Simon jolts at the sound, the voice's scenario sounding...oddly familiar.]
Hello-? Hello?
[Could he...help?]
Don't listen to them, don't fucking listen! Don't go to the Light!
{Another voice?}
[She thinks to herself.]
Thatās really funny, using a different voice on me. It still wonāt work, Ī£LLI..
I'm not- I'm not another voice. I'm real!
[He had to stop them. He had to save them.]
I don't...know who that is, but it isn't me.

((Thought Iād start another thread if thatās alright! Old one was getting long again lol))
āExactly,ā Grace says as he once again sifts through the sand with his free hand.
He blushes when Simon complements him, glancing away from the man. The sun has fully set and the simulated stars are visible now, so Grave is hoping his blush isnāt too visible in the dark. āUm, y-yeah, I am.ā He chuckles, brushing the sand off his hand before he rubs the back of his neck. āI donāt think itās that impressive. I was a teacher on earth too after all.ā
He watches the stones Simon throws splash into the water, smiling softly as the water ripples from the impact.
@dr-captain-ryland-gracee
[The stars reflect in Simon's eyes, flickering with light brighter than what he was used to. And there were so many more. It was...nostalgic. He still didn't fully believe that all of the planets and stars had been returned, but- it was nice to pretend, for tonight.]
Ah, well- At least to me it is. Back where I come from, besides the Father, we didn't have classroom teachers. We had mentors. If you were lucky enough to be assigned one, it practically meant you had a secured spot within the station. You were useful.
So- you teaching people? And so many of them? Yeah, that's impressive.
[He lightly squeezes the hand in his, a reassuring motion that brings him more comfort than it probably should, being such a small, unusual action for him.]
Grace is in awe as he stares into Simonās eyes. Gosh, the man is stunningā¦
He nods, listening oh-so intently as Simon speaks, hanging on to his every word. Heās glad heās willing to talk about where he comes from, to share these things with him. It makes him happy.
āThank you, Simon.. for the compliments, and for sharing that with me.ā
His smile widens and he gently squeezes Simonās hand back before suddenly letting out a deep yawn. āOh goodness, sorry. I didnāt realize I was so tired. Youāve gotta be tired too though, Iām sure.ā
As much as Grace would love to just sit on this beach and talk with Simon ā he specifically wants to ask if he had a mentor ā all through the night, he doesnāt want to deprive the man of rest.
[Things are so...different, here- It makes Simon anxious to talk about where he came from. Somehow, though, it's easier knowing Grace is the only one to hear his words.]
You're right. I hadn't even noticed how late it was.
[He nods, not wanting to make a move to get up. It looks like Grace wasn't going to either, honestly- but he needed sleep, the both of them knew that. Simon pulls himself up and guides the other man with their intertwined hands.]
C'mon, Ryland. Let's get you back.
[The walk back towards the house is slow, easy. They fall into step with ease, bumping one another on occasion, sand shifting beneath their feet. It's peaceful.]
Grace smiles softly as Simon helps him up to his feet. Heās glad the man made the move to get them up ā he doesnāt think he wouldāve himself.
He chuckles whenever they bump into each other, gently squeezing the manās hand each time it happens.
Once they make it back into the house Grace kicks off his shoes, sighing softly. He looks over at Simon, ever-present smile still on his face. He still hasnāt let go of Simonās hand. āIs there anything you need before we go to bed?ā
[Copying Grace, Simon wedges off his boots and lines them by the front door. The warmth of the house is lovely after the chill of outside, wrapping around them both like an embrace.]
No, I- don't think so. Do you need...anything?
[He felt silly asking- Simon didn't have anything to offer here, but he wasn't used to the question either. Being asked what he wanted? Being considered? It was like his world was upside down.]
Grace smiles at Simon, shaking his head. āNo, but thank you for asking.ā
He blushes, glancing away from Simon. He stays still for a moment before letting go of his hand and wrapping his arms around him in a gentle hug. āGoodnight, Simon,ā he says softly before letting go of him and heading into his own room, shutting the door.
He slips off his shirt and changes into a pair of sweatpants before flopping onto his bed, sighing. Today was certainly very eventful.. and he wouldnāt want it any other way.
~~~~
Hours go by, and itās well into the night cycle. Artificial moonbeams shine through Graceās open window, the ocean breeze making his curtains flutter. While the night is peaceful, his rest unfortunately isnāt.
Grace is stirring in his sleep ā heās rolled over onto his stomach, his face buried in his pillow as his legs begin kicking of their own accord.
In his dream heās running ā running for his life⦠he gets tackled.. oh god, no, no!
āDonāt do it, donāt do it!ā He screams, still asleep as he thrashes about in his bed.
[The hug, as many things seem to do here, catch Simon off guard. He holds Grace close, tight, hands dragging away with reluctance.]
Night, Grace.
[He watches the other man depart before finding his own way to his room, exhaustion quickly falling over him. The events of the day hit Simon like a truck, and soon enough he was deep asleep]
~~~~
[Screaming startles Simon awake. It was a usual occurrence, in the C.O.I., but- where was he? This isn't his usual setting. There's soft sheets, and a window with moonlight, and-]
Grace.
[His feet are moving before his brain is, up and out of bed, swinging his door open.]
Grace!
[The yelling is coming from inside his room, Simon can easily recognize that. He doesn't know what to expect, as he stumbles inside- and finds Grace alone. No threat, nothing for him to fight.]
Ryland? Ryland, wake up-
When Simon calls Graceās name he jolts awake, swiftly rolling onto his back and sitting up. His quilt falls, exposing his bare torso as he pants for air, clutching at his chest. Heās coated in sweat.. he was having a night terror.
He looks over at whoever called his name ā itās Simon. Tears are flowing down his cheeks as he continues gasping for air.
āSimon⦠I, I-Iām so sorry for waking you up. I..,ā he trails off, not quite sure what to say as he wipes at his eyes.
He feels awful, having disturbed Simonās rest. He hadnāt had a night terror in ages, he has no idea what brought this one on.
[Quickly making his way inside, Simon finds himself by the bedside. He isn't sure where to place himself, doesn't want to intrude- so he settles for the edge of the mattress.]
No, no apologies. Are you alright?
[Night terrors were a common occurrence for him, but- He never assumed Grace would share the problem. He seemed so...light, it was hard to picture him with any sort of problem to prompt such a reaction. Simon offers his hand, the only sort of comfort he can think of in the moment, without being overbearing.]
Grace sniffles as he nods. āYeah⦠yeah, Iām alright now..ā
He looks down at Simonās offered hand. He ignores it in favor of wrapping his arms around the man, hugging him close. āIām.. Iām sorry, if this is too much you can pull away..,ā he murmurs softly, burying his face in the crook of Simonās neck.
He really hopes Simon doesnāt pull away. He needs this. But heās certainly not going to push the man into doing anything he doesnāt want to.
[Simon jolts in surprise, a small hum escaping his throat as Grace wraps his arms around him. It takes a moment, but he quickly adjusts to embrace the other man, shifting on the covers to better accommodate the two.]
I don't...mind.
[It was the truth. Simon loved the contact, even if he wouldn't happen to admit it.]
We can stay like this.
āThank you, Simon..,ā Grace murmurs, the words muffled since he still has his face buried in Simonās neck.
After a few long moments he pulls away, suddenly embarrassed. He completely forgot that heās not wearing a shirt. Heās about to move, to go grab a shirt, but then he locks eyes with Simon. His breath hitches in his throat. The moonlight is illuminating Simonās face, making the hair framing it shine beautifully.
Grace can feel his face heating up, can feel his heart racing. He knows he should look away, should try thinking about something else. But he canāt bring himself to. Not when theyāre already so close..
[Simon pulls away in a mimic of Grace, though his hands linger. He catches the stare, the flush that coats Ryland's cheekbones in a pretty pink.]
Ry? You okay there?
[The attentive look almost makes him squirm, but- it was nice. It meant he could look right back, at Grace's soft muscles and gentle stubble across his jaw. There was something about him, so far from everyone else he had ever experienced. Simon couldn't place it, but- it tugged at his heart oddly.]
Grace nods, his eyes darting down to Simonās lips before flicking back up to his eyes. He swallows hard, his mouth suddenly feeling very dry. āY-yeah, Iām okay..ā
Without meaning to he leans closer to Simon ā their faces are only mere inches apart now. āI.. Iām sorry, I just⦠I just want to be close to you,ā he says quietly, afraid that if he talks too loud whatever spell has fallen over them will break.
Heās never yearned for another person as much as heās yearning for Simon right now. Heās just got to be the most attractive person Grace has ever seen, and he doesnāt know how to handle it.
That- That's good.
[Simon mutters, barely paying attention to the words leaving his mouth. Instead, his attention is focused on the way Grace's breath hitches, voice quiet and warm in the space between them. He's caught in the orbit of Ryland's gravitational pull, drawing closer until their foreheads knock together gently.]
Do you...want me to stay?
Graceās eyes flutter shut as he nods. āYes⦠yes, I do,ā he mutters softly. He takes in a shaky breath as he reaches a hand up, gently placing it on the back of Simonās head.
He wants to kiss him so bad ā he doesnāt think heās ever wanted anything this much in his life. But he wonāt. Not without asking.
āSimon.. can I..?ā Grace trails off, too nervous to finish. Heās really hoping Simon knows what he wants.. and that he wants it too.
[Oh. So that's what this feeling is...]
[Simon leans into the hand on his face, falling into the comforting touch like he'd never recieve it again. He can feel himself falling forward, agreement quick to spill from his lips, and yet-]
[He places a hand on Grace's chest despite his brain urging anything else.]
Grace, you- You hardly know me. You don't know what I've done, I- I don't want you to...regret it.
Graceās blush deepens when Simon places a hand on his chest. He doesnāt doubt the man can feel just how fast his heart is beating.
He shakes his head as he looks into Simonās eyes. āSimon⦠thereās no way I would regret anything I do with you. I know, we hardly know each other, but⦠but I feel like I know enough,ā he says softly as he gently strokes Simonās hair.
āYouāre kind, patient, gentle.. strong,ā he continues, blushing. āI can tell youāre a good man, Simon. So I know I wonāt regret this.ā
He bites his lip as he glances away from the man. āWe⦠of course we donāt have to if you donāt want to. If youāre not ready. But.. just know that I wouldnāt regret it if we did.ā
@sm-13logs
[Grace sounds so...sure of himself. Sure that he knows Simon is a good person, but truly, how much can he know him? It's- It's only been a few hours, what happens when Ryland finds out what he's done?]
[Simon places a soft kiss on the side of Grace's cheek, and matches the expression on the other's face.]
Let's...talk tomorrow. I'll- stay here for the night, if you want?
[Please, please, please- He doesn't think he can spend the night alone, after the Blood Ocean. Even just closing his eyes feels like he's back there, and- the company helps. Grace helps.]
Graceās lip twitches up into a small smile when Simon kisses his cheek. He nods as he blushes. āYeah, we can talk tomorrow.ā
He smiles softly as he returns his gaze to Simon. Heās glad the man offered to stay ā heās not sure he wouldāve had the courage to ask him to stay himself. āYes, Iād like for you to stay.ā He averts his gaze from Simon again as his blush deepens. āIām just gonna, uh, put a shirt on,ā he says before getting out of bed and doing just that.
He gets back into bed, lying down and holding the covers open for Simon. āLetās get some sleep, yeah?ā
[Something loosens in Simon's chest at the confirmation that he can stay. Something warm, something soft. It's a feeling he's scared to get used to.]
Ah- right. Sorry about that...
[Simon's face flushes, and he quickly darts his eyes away. When Grace resettles into the bed, offering Simon a place besides him, he goes quickly. The sheets are soft against his skin, and his hand is quick of find a matching one to hold onto.]
Yeah. Let's get some sleep, Ry.
((Thought Iād start another thread if thatās alright! Old one was getting long again lol))

[Please, please, please- He doesn't think he can spend the night alone, after the Blood Ocean. Even just closing his eyes feels like he's back there, and- the company helps. Grace helps.]
There was a new voice to be heard on the submarine.
"H-Hello Simon from Eden."
Despite its robotic sound and occasional stutter, it didnāt seem to come from the speakers.
There was another person on the ship.
Well, if thatās what it could be called. Itās posture was stiff, too stiff to be considered human, and its eyes seemed to be faintly glowing in the dim light. Itās expression stayed neutral the entire time that it was observed. Whatever that thing was, it was far from human.
"My name is Googleplier. I was sent here to gather information on you. C-Compliance would be preferred."
ā @googleplier-irl
[The voice is strange. It nearly sounds automated- Simon whips his head to the speakers, though he knows it isn't the source of the noise. Reflex, he assumes. Out of the corner of his eye, he spots the other...being in the sub.]
[Simon practically throws himself backwards, back hitting the controls and bolting the sub.]
What. The. Fuck. Who on Eden are you?!
[His hand shoots to the empty spot on his chest where his sheath used to rest. He's so screwed.]
"My name is Googleplier. A personified version of a s-search engine, created by āāāāāāā. My primary objective is to answer any questions as quickly as possible."
The android didnāt seem bothered by Simonās reaction, simply introducing itself again. Or perhaps it was. It was quite difficult to tell due to its unchanging body language.
Yeah. Sure! Why not! Of course I have some living interpretation of a fucking computer browser down here.
What the hell do you want?!
[Simon isn't sure what to do- the two seem to be at a standstill]
"I was sent here to gather i-information about you, Simon."
Google took a slight step closer to the other man, the only movement it had made so far.
....About me? Who sent you? The C.O.I.? They already have all the information they need-!
[Wedging himself further back in the sub, Simon glances around, seeing if he can find anything to defend himself. Nothing.]
"I am not permitted to tell you about who sent me. Though, I am able to say that I am not from the Consolidation of Iron. In fact, I am not from this universe in the first place, though that is probably not something you are able to comprehend yet."
Google did not move any further from its position, its eyes now focusing solely on Simon.
"I do not have any bad intentions yet. Cooperate with me and you will be fine."
The words sounded slightly threatening, though it was difficult to tell whether that was how the android meant it. Its tone was still as monotone as ever.
Not the same universe? The fuck are you talking about?
[The next words out of the man's- robots?- mouth chill Simon to the core. Alright. Cooperation. He'd been doing that his entire life, surely he could manage a little bit more- just until he could figure out a way to get this...thing out of here.]
Right. What do you...want? You said you needed information.

Is mee!!! @sm-13logs is me! Look!
Yeah, El- uh- that's definitely you...

Nothing. I'm from Earth.
I've actually always wanted to know what it's like on Mars.
-š«
Ah, you are? Never got the chance to visit, but- what I'd give to now.
S'alright. Dusty, all the time, just fine red coating everything. It got dragged in from the airlocks, and the vents, I think-
It wasn't anything special, really.
HUMAN GRACE SMELL SICK. SMELL LIKE BAD BAD, TAKE TO DUMB ROCK
@ellli-the-blood-eel
Grace is- sick? You're telling me he's sick? Y-yeah, let's get Adrian-
[That simple offer renders Kazimir speechless, his mouth opening and closing a handful of times as he searches for a response.]
I- Okay...okay...
[A soft sigh escapes him, and he adjusts the book under his arm.]
I don't think I've spoken to someone this much in years. I definitely haven't spoken English this much in centuries...I didn't realize how much I missed it.
-ā³
You and Lyr were speaking something else before, what language was that? I haven't heard anything but English since Mars. Eden had shut any diversity in language down long before I got there.
[The door is still so far in front of them, the hallway seems to never end. Simon wonders how long they've been walking for, how long it'll continue. Is the rest of the Archive like this, never ending?]
[Hey everyone! I'm so sorry I haven't gotten around to asks in a bit, I promise I haven't disappeared again- I've just been out of service the past few days, and it seems like I will be again for just under a week. I'll try my best to get back to what I can ^^ Much love!]
Hmm.
...Simon, are you from Earth or Mars?
-š«
Mars. My mother was from Earth, so I have stories, but- never been myself. Why d'you ask?

@dr-captain-ryland-gracee
~~~~
Hours go by, and itās well into the night cycle. Artificial moonbeams shine through Graceās open window, the ocean breeze making his curtains flutter. While the night is peaceful, his rest unfortunately isnāt.
Grace is stirring in his sleep ā heās rolled over onto his stomach, his face buried in his pillow as his legs begin kicking of their own accord.
In his dream heās running ā running for his life⦠he gets tackled.. oh god, no, no!
āDonāt do it, donāt do it!ā He screams, still asleep as he thrashes about in his bed.
[The hug, as many things seem to do here, catch Simon off guard. He holds Grace close, tight, hands dragging away with reluctance.]
Night, Grace.
[He watches the other man depart before finding his own way to his room, exhaustion quickly falling over him. The events of the day hit Simon like a truck, and soon enough he was deep asleep]
~~~~
*Thereās a beat of almost disbelieving silence.*
You really think this is the end of humanity? Why? I mean, you wouldnāt be welded into a submarine if there wasnāt at least a chance.
Right?
-š«
...No, I don't.
It's hard to hold onto that hope, when you've only been told otherwise, but-
I don't want to think about it right now.
