Loneliness is a choice. I like to be alone. I’m more comfortable alone. But I do recognise that I take it too far sometimes and so I try to force myself to keep up with being sociable. I just am a bit of a lone ranger. I always have been. But I don’t believe that necessarily has to translate to being lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd of a thousand people. Favorite Actor + Jonathan Groff Theater is the same no matter where you’re doing it. For some people who move [to New York] and get on Broadway, that revelation is a real disappointment. I had the opposite reaction: I felt at home, and I felt excited, ‘cause I loved doing theater anywhere. [Lin-Manuel Miranda] and I talk a lot about this at Hamilton. We always joke that we’re in the high school play. Like, “We got parts in the plaaay!”
