Hey, guess what, this is super fucked up! For all the free publicity we’ve given Solo in the past 3+ years, for all of the increased sales of a 20+ year old cup design, for all of the notority we’ve brought to the name “Solo Jazz”, Solo/Dart want to punish us by stripping our blog of it’s identity.
Solo Jazz has been a meme for many years now, and, finally, Solo realized that they should capitalize on it. Instead of doing something sensible, like working with content creators (or even offering us some compensation for all the advertising), Solo has decided that the best move would be to tighten it’s grip over the IP, effectively killing the meme by making another piece of boring coperate garbage.
Solo Jazz, we hardly knew ye and at the same time, we knew ye so well. We basked in your nostalgia and reveled in the memories you brought us. We meme’d you in a million different ways. We put you in our art shows, wore you on our t-shirts, and briefly turned you into a bike helmet. We even found your designer and gave her the respect she was due! You weren’t a cup, or a design, you were a signifier for 90s nostalgia, a perfect example of the weird post-80’s pre-2000s design nonsense that filled our childhoods.
