Although our personality is affected by many factors including genetics, environment, gender, family size, and the nature of the parents, some psychological research has shown it can also be influenced by birth order. It is difficult to distinguish whether some of the characteristics seen in siblings are genuinely a result of birth order or if they are simply stereotypes which children go along with. Here we will explore some of the research and findings about how birth order could potentially be affecting our personalities.

1. First Borns

First-borns are often a bit of an experiment for parents, and are therefore under more strict and careful ruling. But, because they are first, it has been found that parents dote on them the most. Common characteristics of first-borns include being perfectionistic, reliable, well-organized, critical, serious, scholarly, law-abiding and searching for approval.
