I will never understand people who feel safe around cops. I’m terrified every time a cop comes into a fast food restaurant where I’m picking up lunch. I’m terrified every time I see one sitting in his car idly, the engine still running. I’m terrified every time I see one driving near me. I’m terrified every time I see one walking around, meeting people’s eyes, and smiling. Feeling safe around cops is a sign of privilege, a sign of ignorance, and a luxury that I can never attain.

Don't get sucked into the "if they really cared I wouldn't have to say something" spiral. No matter how close you are with someone, it's unfair to expect them to know things you haven't actually communicated.
