“Gazelle.” Homelander was dressed in casual clothes, carrying about him an air of focus. “We need to talk.” Dusk was just about to settle down over the tower. He knew he didn’t have a lot of time before James woke up.

Gazelle looked up as soon as Homelander spoke. She had been up for a little while given the sun was only about to go down, but work could wait for a friend. "Of course. How could I help?"
“I’ll be gone for a few days. There’s something I need to do.” His expression was troubled as well as solemn. “My bond to James will be blocked until I return, which is something I know he’s not going to take well…” A hint of a sad smile crossed his features for a brief moment. “I’ve left him a note. I dropped by to see you before I left. I need you to watch over him for me, make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.”
Their bond was blocked- Gazelle's eyes widened at that reveal. Whatever Homelander had to do must have been serious. "Of course I will be here for him. You know I will keep our family safe."
She looked at her friend. "Are you going to be alright on your own?" Homelander was strong, but something about this felt off.
“I know, and I’m grateful for that as always. What I don’t know is how James will react to all this. It might seem as if I’ve abandoned him, but I promise that’s not the case. I’m doing this for him. For us.” Homelander clarified.
“I’ll be fine. I’m an indestructible Supe-Vamp hybrid for crying out loud.” He chuckled softly, a faint smile crossing his features that didn’t quite meet his eyes. “Whatever happens, I will come back Gazelle. You have my word. Please…remind James of that if his mind starts to play tricks on him.”
Gazelle nodded in understanding. Sometimes things needed to be done after all. Although if she didn't know any better, she would have claimed he wasn't confident about whatever he had to do. "I know you will come back, Homelander.
"Because if you do not, I will hunt you down to kill you for hurting James." The threat was real, but there was no venom in her tone. "I will make sure James is safe until that time."
A small but genuine smile appeared on his face at the threat. “I know you will. I’d be counting on it if it ever came to that.”
He turned to leave, pausing at the last moment. “I really do appreciate this and you, Gazelle. There’s very few I trust these days, especially with something this important. But I feel comforted knowing you and Zeus will keep James safe until I return. We’ll celebrate over some bloodwine when I get back.”
With that, Homelander left. His affairs now in order, he could focus on what he had to do.
Gazelle watched Homelander leave. She hoped everything would be alright. At lease things at Vought would be handled until the Supe got back.
For now she went to go find James. Her friend was going to be needing some extra support for a while.
