She easily returned her smile with one of her own as she held on to the flowers. “I most definitely will, thank you. I’m Izzy, by the way.”

“I don’t find it to be too frightening, actually,” Robin said truthfully. “There are much, much worse jobs out there. Like anything in the Town Hall.” He’d tried, once, to work in Town Hall when he first got home years ago… but it hadn’t worked out. He would take getting mauled by a bear and dying a hero than being stuck in the endless loops of red tape and injustice as a public servant. “I will not harm the lion. Just make sure it’s moved on. Promise.”

“Well you’re quite brave, I think. You’re right in a sense, though, I don’t want to ever go near Town Hall. Politics.. it’s ruthless up there I hear.” Aurora nodded, accepting that answer. “Thank you. The lion has done nothing but move out of his territory. It’d be a shame for him to be harmed just because he thought he could browse some new territories.”

“I don’t think so but I really don’t want to find out anytime soon. Well you enjoy your job don’t you?”

He frowned, knowing how difficult it was to lose value in oneself. Since leaving the military, he felt his value decreased dramatically, but his experiences were nothing like hers. His brain was nothing like hers. He couldn’t relate. “I throw myself into danger and don’t care about the outcome, but I do it for others. Their life is valuable and something I should protect. Like now. After you leave and are safe, I’ll have to go out and patrol. Track down the lion. Make sure there’s sure signs that it’s moved on. But you will be safe, and so will everyone else who wants into that meadow. I can’t be the one who gets you to see your life as valuable. That’s something only you can do. But sometimes placing that value on someone else is a little easier.”

“Do you ever find your job to be... I don’t know, frightening? Like it’s more than you ever bargained for?” Aurora wondered. She could never put her life on the line everyday. Unfortunately, she’d spend more time wondering what it’d be like to just sacrifice herself than to fight and protect those she signed on to protect. “You won’t harm the lion right?”

“Oh all sorts! I’m honestly quite excited, it’s going to be great.” She looked around. “It’s not bad really, i know where everything is.”

“It sort of looks like those homes they show on hoarders? Except with less bugs and it doesn’t smell as bad. I mean, I assume those houses smell real bad. As long as you know where everything is, though, I guess that’s good.”

“Wow, you’re like a literal ray of sunshine. I give it to you, I don’t know how you do it. That would be pretty cute if that happened. Then they would have you to thank for getting together. Maybe you can officiate the marriage.”

“Daisies, please! Those are my favorite.”
