it was a good thing crosby was nonchalant. he’d always kept himself collected and only very rarely did he display his temper. anger wasn’t something he really even associated with, as a whole. he was devoid of it—or rather, devoid of most emotion. a sigh parted his lips, hand briefly running over his face. “c’mon, man,” although, he knew that xavier really had all the reason in the world to act as he currently was. what bothered him was that he definitely wasn’t like them—it was an insult, if anything. for him to be like them, he’d need to treat the slaves like garbage—using and abusing them, and neither of those things were ideal to him. not once had he laid a hand upon any of them. “it’s my job. i’m sent out to find suitable—people,” although he was aware that in saying this, he’d only make the slave’s supposed hatred for him stronger—they were honest words. crosby wasn’t lying; not this time around. “i totally get it if you think that makes me sick. i mean, it kind of does, but—it’s my fucking job,” his arms crossed over his chest. “i’m not gonna try and get you to trust me; we all know that type of shit doesn’t work. do whatever you want, man. just—i want you to know that i’m not like them. sure, i’m the reason you’re here, and i guess that makes me a piece of shit, okay—whatever, but, you’re essentially calling me a rapist. i’m literally just living here, man—there’s the possibility of me being fucking demoted to a slave, too. i do what i’m told—which is find a few new faces to bring back, and that’s that.”
“your...job?” as if that made it any better. it was a job to go out and find people and bring them to this place. “it does.” he said strongly. “it makes you sick. and you’re not making this any easier on yourself. it’s your fucking job - who the fuck does that? i mean...you’re just deciding for these people - me - that their life as they knew it is over. you’re--you’re bringing them here to suffer. and directly you’re not fucking trying to hurt them, you’re not hurting them - but indirectly you are.” xavier found it easy to lash out at crosby, he wasn’t as intimidating as some of the others he’s come into contact with. a scoff passed the brunette’s lips. crosby wanted him to know he wasn’t like them - and while that may have been true, what he was doing wasn’t any better. right? xavier wasn’t in the wrong for thinking that. his lips parted when he flat out said he was the reason that he ended up here - he’d thought about that, but he wanted to think it was someone else who brought him, “why me?” he frowned, disregarding everything else said for the moment. “why’d it have to be me?”
