Blood Pressure Checks

High blood pressure can lead to serious problems such as heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. High blood pressure usually has no warning signs, so regular blood pressure checks are important.

We offer a simple way to check your blood pressure in-store, and can advise on ways to improve your overall heart health. A blood pressure reading only takes a couple of minutes and is available all year round.

Bowel Screening

Bowel cancer is one of Australia’s most common cancers. Early detection is vital and bowel cancer screening is an important and convenient way of assessing your risk.

At Slade Pharmacy, we use the BowelScreen Australia®* screening test, which involves a simple, accurate and non-invasive test you can complete in the privacy of your home. The test works by detecting tiny amounts of blood (usually invisible to the naked eye) that are released from bowel cancers or pre-cancerous growths into the bowel motion. Please speak with our pharmacist to find out more.

The risk of developing bowel cancer increases significantly once you’re over the age of 50. Experts therefore recommend an annual screening test for over 50′s – even if you have no symptoms. If you have family history of bowel cancer or have symptoms that concern you, you should see your doctor for more specialised advice.

Diabetes Support

Slade Pharmacy Diabetes Support assists people who’ve been medically diagnosed with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

As a registered ‘Access Point’ for the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), we stock a range of diabetes-related products, some of which we may be able to supply at subsidised prices.

Administered by Diabetes Australia, the NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government to help make diabetes-related products more accessible and provide diabetes-related products at subsidised prices. Subsidised products include blood glucose testing strips, pen needles, syringes and urine testing strips/tablets.

Return of Unwanted Medicines

The subject of men’s health doesn’t get as much attention and focus as it should – both publicly and in private. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is an especially awkward topic and questions regarding Erectile Dysfunction medication (e.g. trimix) often go unasked or unanswered.

At Slade Pharmacy, we are specialists in Erectile Dysfunction medication – from dispensing, provision of information and guidance on injection technique.

We compound (make up specially) and stock a range of medications, including:

- Promix: a combination of alprostadil, phentolamine mesylate and papaverine hydrochloride. It also contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative.

- Trimix: a combination of atropine sulphate, phentolamine mesylate and papaverine hydrochloride. It’s also known as Trimix APP and contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative.

- Prostin: contains alprostadil, which is known as prostiglandin E1 and is similar to Caverject®, which is commercially available by prescription.

We can also supply you with injection kits and sharps containers for the safe disposal of syringes.

IVF

The provision of IVF medication is one of our specialties. We are the pharmacy partner for Monash IVF and provide medication to patients from other IVF clinics across Victoria.

We can supply all your IVF medication – both off-the-shelf and compounded (specially prepared) – and give expert advice on what you’ve been prescribed.

We recognise that undergoing IVF treatment can be stressful. You’ll often be taking a number of medications, for example DHEA, Pregnyl, progesterone pessaries, and have a lot of questions – e.g. ‘What are the likely side effects?’, ‘What if I miss a dose?’

We’ve worked with veterinarians since 1999 to provide tailored solutions for a range of animals – domestic, exotic, large and small.
