I am sad to say that autobahn will be pulled from service and our rackspace at Equinix will become unavailable in March.

History Lesson

The first hellyeah system, countzer0, was deployed in 1996 and was the first home of the hellyeah! moo, among other things. Some of you had your first homepage served on that system and it was an intel 486 SX running at 25 Mhz regularly shared by four or five users before being replaced by bitchslap, a DEC Multia with an Alpha processor at 233MHz that was cleverly concealed under my desk at CAIS Internet.

After bitchslap came gleemonex, an intel pentium II with a 350MHz clock. Holy balls, was that sucker fast! After gleemonex and The Incident at 6861 Elm (special thanks to kev and ServInt for the bail money and being the Karen to my Henry, respectively) came hungus.hellyeah.com, a PowerPC G4 Mac Mini running Mac OS X Server. hungus was soon outgrown and replaced by our G5 Xserve, autobahn, funded by John Duksta (#upnod) and that brings us to today.

Present Day

These days virtualization of systems and remote management has made racking our own equipment not only exceptionally costly (by the kindness of others we have largely been immune to these costs) but inconvenient as well since we aren't young nerds with all the time in the world for hobbies and fixing computers in the middle of the night.

More notices will be sent as the end draws near. This will not affect hellyeah.com email, xmpp, as those will still be available via Google Apps.
