the lost girl au started by taking the characters and (basic) plot of KOTLC and adapting it into a young adult novel, changing the premise and the events to create more tension and grit, while down sizing on the...humor...?

unfortunately, I can never let sleeping dogs lie, and I ended up shifting it into a more involved AU based around english, germanic, and celtic faery-folklore (with ever evolving scapes - I know some of my 'team' has expressed interest in including arabic etc. folk creatures and I'm VERY into it, just struggling to fit everything together at the mo).

the core components go as follows: in the ancient times, elves and all magical creatures were most equal and lived in chaotic harmony with humans - like the stories you may have heard. Yet, there was a fissure, running down the lost cities - sparking and eventually leading to a great war. A war of which ended with Goblins, Ogres, Elves, and Merfolk all signing a peace treaty and returning to their own kingdoms, the tensions between the folk still high. Dwarves were wiped out and gnomes - peaceful, and solitary beings - became servants in the elven realm. Human's were cut out entirely.

this is the world that the Black Swan is born into, a group of young renegades attempting to restore the true peace between the creatures, bring back human interaction, and redeliver elves to the wild magic that they once practiced. after loss and loss, they turned to the last restort: project moonlark, a girl who would be born with the magic of the old times, abilities not cut short by the strict breeding laws that elves stuck too.

Sophie Foster is a normal human girl, until she is captured by a group of strange, dangerous beings. When she is on the brink of death, she awakens her powers of Telepathy and calls out to her strange friend, Fitzroy, who in saving her, reveals himself as an elf, and brings her into his strange new world.
