Hey all! I finally bothered logging back in here, but itâs just to remind you all that this blog will no longer be updated now that this event is over. That being said, the event will still continue to happen, just not here on tumblr; this blog wonât be deleted since the pages are still useful, but I wonât be making any more posts after this one.
So! Here are all the White Day exchange fics; please go read them and show the authors some love!
And hereâs the exit survey/poll for when the next event should happen/any other thoughts you have; itâs only open for a week (until April 15th), so please get your opinions/thoughts/etc. in before then!

Will you no longer update here in 2019? What if we don't have Twitter or anything else? (I can't remember which blogs said they weren't)
This blog will be updated until the end of the current White Day event, but for the second event of 2019 and onwards, it will not be.Â
There are three main places to find this blog otherwise (which are all in use/being updated now, as well, so you donât have to wait until the end of this event to follow them):Â
1. dreamwidth (which is free to join, though you donât need an account to view the blog regardless, but you wouldnât be able to âfollowâ it without one and youâd have to check up on it manually/periodically rather than being able to just see everything on your own reading page)
2. twitter (same as above, no account needed but I would recommend one for ease), andÂ
3. pillowfort (which is still in closed beta and costs $5 to join if you donât get in on one of the open enrollment periods, you canât see this one unless you have an account)
If you donât have accounts on any of these platforms (and are presumably unwilling to make them, otherwise just make one and subscribe/follow/etc.), then unfortunately youâll just have to check up on them manually.

White day is that day when boys are supposed to give back 3x their Valentine gifts to girls right? Or am I missing something?
Well, the 3x rule isnât actually a strict âruleâ, more of a guideline, but generally speaking, yes, thatâs correct.
Itâs also fine for guys to give their other guy friends chocolates too, though, just like girls often give each other chocolates on Valentineâs day.
... Excessively detailed explanation under the cut for those wanting more information because itâs Who I Am As A Person:
Right, so!Â
When it comes to Japanese chocolate giving holidays, there are different levels or tiers of chocolate, so to speak.Â
The highest âlevelâ is typically reserved for people you have a crush on/are dating/etc. These are often home made chocolates, to show you really put effort in for this person, but it doesnât have to be home made... It can also just be very expensive. Since girls give guys chocolates first (chronologically), these are generally the ones that are more expected to be 3x better in return if the guy likes the girl back... of course, given you canât put a price on home made chocolates, in that scenario, it just means âget her something crazy expensiveâ if the guy likes her back. (Or literally 3x what she spent if she bought the chocolates, of course.)
The middle âlevelâ is friend chocolates. These are usually decent quality, but nothing too expensive, that you give to your friends, including girls giving each other chocolates on Valentineâs day, or guys giving each other them on White day. Of course, same-sex chocolate giving could also be the really expensive chocolates if the two are in a relationship/are interested in one another romantically; in this case it would usually be a more expensive/home made chocolate with the distinction that only that person gets those. If a girl gives all of her female friends homemade chocolates on Valentineâs day, theyâre all friend chocolates, sheâs not telling them all she romantically loves them. (... Well, usually, anyway. I suppose I canât say that definitively.)
The lowest âlevelâ is giri choko, or âobligation chocolatesâ. These are for people you are socially expected to give chocolates to, but donât actually want to; so, for example, if a woman in an office gives all of her male coworkers chocolates on Valentineâs day, at least some of those are definitely giri choko. Of course, you donât tell people when itâs just giri choko (or at least most people donât), because that would be pretty rude... but you can imply it by intentionally giving people you donât like cheaper chocolates than those youâre genuinely giving âfriendâ chocolates.
Also, for that highest level, when I say âexpensiveâ and âcrazy expensiveâ, I mean some of these chocolates are literally hundreds of dollars. Valentineâs day and White day are HUGELY commercialized in Japan, and just about every sweets shop will be going all out and making insanely detailed/unique products, planning months in advance. It gets... really insane... even just regular grocery stores have huge banners and signs and stuff.Â
