Look, if you cast an actor to play a Nazi, show off the swastika, and whatnot, that actor isn’t automatically racist. Why? Because his role in the narrative might be to get vanquished by the good guy.

Is wearing swastikas and Nazi regalia offensive as fuck to my family who were imprisoned, killed, and experimented on by Nazis? Yeah. But if he’s the bad guy, it’s suddenly a movie about Nazis being bad.

If they went all, oh, people in snappy uniforms who say words in a German accent a lot are bad, it wouldn’t have the same punch.

The reverse is applicable with queer coding villains. It was possible to make basically explicitly queer characters in conservative media… As long as they were the bad guys and they got their comeuppance. And it worked. People hate us, and in no small part it’s bexause those behaviors, mannerisms, traits that are quintessential to the greater queer community have been programmed as Bad, Lustful, Wicked, Corrupt into people’s minds.

Blackface is racist, it’s not simply ‘it’s bad because it’s white people taking roles from Black people’, white people have always done it to make racist caricatures, and it can’t be separated from that context

Even if he was intending to seriously criticise people taking roles they shouldn’t in any meaningful way that’s ACTUALLY gonna impact on the industry (which I doubt, considering, yeah, he still works with these people), it’s still racist, and also entirely pointless, because there are far FAR better ways to make that point

It’s not good taste. it’s not. There’s no argument from me there. But if it’s narratively framed as a thing bad people do, you can’t say the guy framing it as a bad thing is as bad as the guys doing it.

I’m not accusing RDJ of taking a role from a black man, bc in this case he wouldn’t be. But if the horribly racist caricature, which, yes, blackface is inrguably racist, is framed as being as a negative character.
