You know, as someone who once enjoyed reading those tea blogs back when they were more general complaints about the overall state of things instead of blatant anonymous attacks, they've actually gotten so far out of hand that I actually kinda worry for the hobbyspace itself.
Still figuring out how to navigate burnout on finishing projects.
For the previously mentioned Night Sky with Exit Wounds skin, its currently being dismantled. I've had a really talented coder reach out and offer their services to review the responsive markup, so I'm hoping to reach out to them when I can get it in a viewable state.
For anyone following up on the illustrated panfandom site buzz, a sideblog has been created and the skin is a WIP. Will post an update on that later.

It is being coded as we speak for a project; I work full time, go to the gym after work for about two hours, and live about 25-30 minutes out of town. Sometimes when I get home at the end of the day, I just want to play a videogame and go to bed instead of plugging away on codepen haha
But the project is not abandoned, just bear with me; I'll release it shortly after project is finished. It will require some tweaking for public use.

The only image a member needs for the skin to be functional is their uploaded avatar, everything else has been designed to be 100% optional.

thank you for sharing your work <3 i was wondering if you would be willing to explain what you mean by jcink allowing you to emulate digital scrapbooking? do you use jcink for more than just roleplay? i'm wondering because i'm kind of interested in skinning for jcink but for primarily personal reasons as opposed to creating a full on roleplay community. but jcink is such a finicky medium, it makes me wonder if i might be better off creating a personal site (wordpress, squarespace) instead.

Precisely, actually - Jcink is the only thing I deal with for "frontend design", so its kinda where my "I want to make something" muse goes. It usually ends up in headers or main profiles that are purely aesthetic rather than informative/usable for actual roleplay communities. I used to scrapbook with my grandma, and all we'd do was "layer" textured paper, stickers, badges, photos, and other little gadgets over each other. I still kinda do it today with my work calendar with washi-tape.
As for a portfolio - honestly, if Jcink is where you feel the most comfortable rooting around in, it gets the job done. But like you said, you're battling outdated formatting like tables with built-in widths. Jcink also apparently clear inactive URLs that haven't been logged into for a few years - so if you do start on Jcink just for fun, definitely back it up on github or privately on your desktop? And if you find that wordpress/squarespace is more flexible - I'd love to hear more about it, too! Share your finds. Would love to hear about it.
If you have any suggestions for the skin I've just posted that you'd like to see in its public release, let me know as well; if its feasible, I'll try my best to make it happen.
Updates on one of the skins mentioned below, showing first half of forum index (not including the tabbed categories WIP), the general post row, and a snippet of the reworked UCP.
General post row alternates left/right with an optional relationship section (shown in last image). There will be separate post rows for the cellphones, social media, and stationary forums.
For the anon in my ask box - It is being coded as we speak for an upcoming site, and I will be releasing it for free very shortly after with modifications for a more public-friendly use. It is relatively responsive. Because this skin is being coded with intentions for my own project, you'll have to follow my set-up for forums, categories, member-groups, and custom fields to a T (unless you know how to go into the code and figure out how to change them for yourself).

Curious if there would be any interest in releasing work that isn't at all flexible and may require cookie-cutter forums set up in the way the skin was built? Like, I use the same formula in pretty much every skin I design for myself, and if you were to use it, too, you'd have to follow it as well (or know how to edit it yourself to make any changes).

I'm still alive, still plugging away; wanted to show the two things I'm "working" on (aka, I punch in a line of mark-up then ignore for two weeks)
First one is midsummer - it should have been done like a month ago before I went to Vegas. I'm really just wanting to talk about how development boards kinda fell off in the animanga rp circle, but I refuse to let them die by incorporating them as optional aspects of a dev-based application (I'm #over wikipedia rewrites). You can control the amount of "columns" through a dropdown (except on mobile mode). Speaking of, I'm so excited that Max Caulfield is coming back in the new Life is Strange; fingers crossed that I get to see Chloe again
Second skin - it basically changes colours based on two custom accents that you choose through your UCP. It uses image-masking for the image, and it actually sucked cutting the individual parts out.
