In light of #BFRBAwarenessWeek, only one of these five conditions is considered to be a #BFRB; excoriation disorder (aka compulsive skin picking).
Each diagnosis is important to consider because they require different treatments to settle the pervasiveness of the condition at hand.
No matter where you live, reaching out to any BFRB organization will likely result in someone being able to direct you to the appropriate re

Hi I live in the Uk and I'd like to know the best way I could watch 'Scars of Shame'? See I have Dermatillomania and only found out about the disorder last November, but realised I had been suffering with it for a few years. Please help me! Thanks!
Hello!
Last year Scars of Shame became free to watch on Skin Picking Support's website!
Please click on the link above to see the documentary. I'd love to know your thoughts! Thank you! 💜
Please check out and share this great collaboration I had with Seen Stories highlighting that recovery from skin picking is possible!!! 💜 Some footage from this reel is from the Scars of Shame documentary, which is now free to watch online! I'd love to know your thoughts!
Scars of Shame is the first documentary to examine the skin picking disorder, dermatillomania. Many individuals with this compulsion live with embarrassment and shame from the marks it leaves on the skin and the inability to stop.
For the last day of BFRB Awareness Week, I want to announce that Scars of Shame is now free to watch online!
Please reblog to spread awareness about compulsive skin picking through this comprehensive documentary, which features top BFRB experts! Let us know what you think by commenting or using #ScarsOfShame in your posts!

From our inner desires to external influences, identity presents in various ways. It can help us find like-minded individuals to discuss shared interests or validate a personal struggle with. As someone with multiple mental health diagnoses in my pre-teen years and twenties, I found comfort knowing I wasn't alone- especially with my skin picking. One reason I was able to come out with my dermatillomania was because I recognized that I am more than my conditions. While health issues have affected my quality of life over the years, there's always been more to me than the pains I endure. My conditions may feel all-encompassing at times, but there are many layers to my identity that don't include the diagnoses in my medical file. In telling my darkest experiences publicly, I'm only sharing a part of me- not everything I am. Never let a diagnosis place a limitation on your self-worth. You are more than what you struggle with and its accompanying labels or stigmas.
Carter + Jane claim they have formulated a skincare product that works for skin pickers, but does PickFix™ heal skin or ease the compulsion?
Shout out to my pickers ok?
People that pick when they get nervous
People that never know they’re picking until they’ve reopened a scar or they’re bleeding.
People that have dark spots on their faces, arms, and legs.
You’re not ugly. You’re not gross. You’re all beautiful and loved.
Hey
please remove your hands from your skin. You are fine, your skin is fine. You don’t need to pick anything off. You don’t need to dig anything out. It’s okay. Breathe. It will heal. It will go away. Don’t let this illness control you. You control you. Okay?

"For many, scrolling through images of other people's struggles is what makes them feel less alone."
“Members of Facebook’s BFRB forums don’t encourage each other to engage in the behavior or offer tips on how to make it worse. They look to be accepted alongside a supportive group of individuals who understand the multi-faceted struggles of a disorder that is still dismissed by many health professionals. This includes showing our skin to a world that doesn’t accept the types of imperfections we have with its ideal — and unrealistic — standards of beauty, especially regarding flawless skin.” - Angela Hartlin
