Mama, and her little one [June 2026]
It sucks that my area used to be home to red-headed woodpeckers, and eastern whip-poor-wills but, invasive species, loss of nesting cavities, cat predation, and declining insect populations means I won’t see them here anymore…
It’s July now…. UGHHHHHH
Okay, the one good thing about July is that there is black-eyed susans everywhere… that’s about it though

Yellow warbler / eastern kingbird [July 2025]
It’s July now…. UGHHHHHH
Accidentally forgot about the three, five gallon buckets I still had full of picked garlic mustard, and now it has composted down into dirt, but I can’t use it because seeds or roots could potentially still be viable inside that dirt so, I have acquired useless dirt. I genuinely can’t do anything with this stuff.
Leave it to me to make useless dirt…

Okay so, dark mode doesn’t work well on that one-
Tree swallow peeking out
April is such a good month if you’re okay with finding the more subtle joy in things, I think. There’s a lot of little, cute changes in April. Nothing big and showy like how the green suddenly all comes back, and all the flowers bloom in May. Instead, there are slower, small things. Chipmunks coming out, the early migratory arrivals, and their slight overlap with the snow birds, little seedlings poking out of the ground, and the tiny but magnificent early spring blooms. Sure, the weather can still suck, temperatures can be all over the place, and everything is a mud pit often but otherwise, it’s quite nice.
Screw July and August though
Spring and fall are probably my favorite seasons but, it sucks they’re both so short because they’re just transitional periods between the two major seasons :(
You can not make me love summer, I’m sorry- Winter has its charms though ☝️

Apparently you’re not really supposed to do much with daffodils during “summer” so, little over half of the FIFTY BULBS were transplanted, and the other 20 were clipped, put in a bag, and in a cool place until fall
Really need to bite the bullet on the daffodils because, they have not bloomed in years. I asked my neighbor, and she said they need to be separated. Going off of that, they probably also need to be in a bit of a sunnier location as well.
Great, I’ve known this for about a month now, and haven’t done it because: those are daffodils my grandfather planted. He’s been gone for almost 11 years now, and I feel too intimidated to touch them because what if I kill them-
Side note: why the fuck did he plant two peonies in the shade?? I’ve seen one flower from them in a decade…
