Let’s admit it: we women can be as emancipated and cool as we want. But with some things, men can still make us weak in the knees. With a strong chin and broad shoulders, for example; with steel-blue eyes, a tall, slender figure and - as little politically correct as that may be - with a well-cut uniform. Better yet: a sailor suit.

A Virus that cannot be cured

Alexander Skarsgård did not want to continue the family tradition - actually

The offspring of a great Swedish actor-tribe has five brothers and a sister who worked as a model.

Is there such a thing as an acting-virus, and can you get infected with it? For example, when you grow up with a famous father like Stellan Skarsgård, who plays everything he can get his hands on, from arthouse gems like “Breaking The Waves” to big-screen tsunamis like “Mamma Mia!”. Who demonstrates to his children, especially to his eldest son Alexander, the freedom of a life as an artist - as a loving, but also slightly eccentric father, who wears strange costumes, but usually preferrs to be naked in their home in Stockholm (a fact that Alexander likes to use today to shock US talkshow hosts: “I was 14 when I saw my dad for the first time in pants”).

Stellan also provided the then-seven-year-old Alexander with his first film role. From then on, at the latest, the virus took hold of his offspring. And because Alexander had not only inherited the Skarsgårdian enthusiasm, but also the talent, at age 13 he was already a star in Sweden, big enough to be recognized and acclaimed over all - or, as he felt at the time, to be bothered. “Fame was scary to me at the time,” he said once, and his father, who is also empathetic, said, “Then stop doing it.” For seven years, Alexander tried to immunize himself against the urge to display, got through the rest  of puberty without any more acting and wanted to become an architect. Until he met with his father’s US agent for a fun Hollywood casting when he was 20: as a model in “Zoolander” with Ben Stiller. To his own surprise, he got the part: So the virus broke out for the second time. 

At the age of 42, Alexander Skarsgård now has the temperament young dog: he just wants to play. He lives out of his suitcase, plays intricate, complicated characters such as the vampire Eric in “True Blood” and Nicole Kidman’s violent husband in “Big Little Lies”; From April 11, we will see him in the postwar drama “The Aftermath” alongside Keira Knightley. He works nonstop, has no relationship (so he says) and explains that he feels “free as a bird” to do what he loves most. And to make sure there is no chance for him to be cured of the virus.
