There was the question multiple interviewers asked about crazy fan encounters and nj just refused to acknowledge that their fans are crazy timestamp: 2:30-3:08

The reasons why I was watching in the first place, when I know good and well I had no g*ddam business doing so, was because after a like 5 or 6 month sobriety from kpop content, I got back into those type of videos recently and I felt like I was falling in love with kpop all over again but when namjoon refused to acknowledge their fans as what they are, that stopped me cold and reminded me of one of the biggest reasons why I swore off kpop as a culture and fandom so long ago and why I need to go to back to that. Because of this. On both sides yall make the experience shitty for black fans. The fans for doing shit like this ^ + idols for not doing anything about their fans that do shit like this. I guess they think problematic and straight up racist fans are not unusual or a dealbreaker for who they’ll accept as their fans and representations of their fandom. Prolly because they possess those same qualities themselves.

I routinely get reminded that this fandom isnt made for me. It doesn’t want us here. It doesnt value us. It doesnt protect us. It doesnt love us.

I routinely get reminded that the kpop world is a fantasy I cant ever allow myself to get fully engaged in or attatched to. It will always be a fantasy world out of my reach that I can never fully immerse myself In. And that there are fans who will make sure i dont get fully engaged or attatched if i ever do allow ourselves to get in too emotionally involved. I always have to distance myself from the fandom and idols because I get reminded that I’m only a square peg trying to get itself into a round hole that only one corner can fit into at the most when you lean it a certain way and even then it doesnt even make it through to the other side of the hole.

I get reminded that not only is kpop a fantasy, it’s just a straight up lie. We are not a family. Unless you’re talking about the Manson family. And tbh Idk which “family” I’d rather be part of. Idk which one would be more accepting. It’s such a shame that kpop brings together so many different people, which NJ prides himself on😒, yet manages to mismanage its fandom culture and traumatize so many black fans without blinking an eye.

Kpop is just so half baked and caustic with that. You cant pride yourself on lots of different people giving you their love

+ support but only be selective in the fans you want to protect. Because the first step to protecting your fans is to actually want to, to begin with.

And the kpop world as a whole just does not want to.
