Shaking the bars of my enclosure to check in! How are you doing? Everything ok?
-deadman aether anon
OH MY GOSH HIIII hello deadman aether anon!!
you have incredible timing i actually tried playing genshin last night LOL (keyword: tried. i attempted to explore nod krai and was so overwhelmed i just went back to liyue and reminisced đđ) and i was mad cus i wanted to pull but apparently i had 2 pity and was on 50/50 LMAOOO
how about uu đâ¤ď¸ how are you our beloved deadman aether ano
hai hai !!!! (â§â˝âŚ) i hope u r doing well, iâve been wanting to send you an ask for a rllie long time now, but i kept overthinking it because i never quite felt like i could properly hold all my feelings for thawed in words. still . . i wanted to try, even if it comes out a little messy, because it really deserves to be said !!! take ur time in answering of course !! i just finished rereading the full series again, and i think it hit me even deeper this time than the first đĽşđđ uwah . . iâve been following your writing for about two and a half years now n iâve always admired it and u as a person !!! but this series felt more than just reading a story for entertainment purposes !!! everything in it felt so intentional . . from the pacing to the pauses & the way emotions donât rush but slowly gather and then spill over when they canât stay contained anymore )): i truly canât believe this much talent can exist in a single person but u have managed to prove me wrong time n time again âĄ
lyney has always been my favorite character in genshin, so seeing him written with this kind of emotional depth meant a lot to me !!! the way you wrote him ;n; especially w the tension between his performer self and the parts of him that only exist when the curtain falls â felt so real it that it actually hurt a little . . i felt several tight squeezes in my chest & there were so many moments where i had to pause jst to sit with what i was feeling, because it felt too accurate to just move past without freaking out abt it <3333 u absolutely nailed his characterization and i found myself constantly thinking âthis is exactly something heâd sayâ or âthis is definitely how he would react / feel / etcâ !!! >__< also couldnât type this out without mentioning the beautifully made relationships in this series !!! gah can i jst say that they felt so layered in a way that never reduced anyone to just one role . . which i rarely ever see on here, our loveliest rosalie felt like a kind of home that doesnât cage you but still remembers you when you leave. arlecchino felt terrifying in the way storms are terrifying, but still intricately structured â even her control still leaves room for choice which i rllie liked đđťââď¸ n then there is freminetâs care that felt understated but steady + there is the star of the show himself !!! lyney !!! he loves in a way that feels both overwhelming and fragile at the same time !!!
a few things i noticed that i wanted to point out : the way âhomeâ kept shifting meaning throughout the story, never staying fixed but never disappearing either, the idea that leaving was never a sudden act . . jst something already chosen long before it was spoken aloud, lyneyâs confession feeling less like a dramatic peak and more like something honest that couldnât really be avoided anymore !!! ( i nearly exploded when i read this bit 𼚠ah !!! ) and the final return where everything doesnât resolve through conflict, but through a kind of quiet belonging instead !!! the last line hit me particularly hard because of how well-placed it was :â3 i think what stayed with me the most is that thawed never treated love or attachment like something simple or clean !!!! it let it be complicated, sometimes painful, sometimes uncertain and terrifying but still warm . . still human . . and in the end it felt less heavy and more understanding !!! i donât really know how to phrase this well so please excuse me if this doesnât make much sense (â ââ˘âĎââ˘â â) but it made me feel seen in a way !! by demonstrating the messy parts of loving someone n the parts that donât always make sense or sit neatly werenât treated as something wrong, just something real that exists and deserves patience !!!
and i rllie do admire how cohesive it all feels emotionally ^^;; even the small moments from earlier come back later in ways that feel intentional rather than accidental, as if the story remembers itself ?! i think !! this kind of structure feels very carefully held, and itâs something i really respect as a reader and writer !! i fear i have talked for long enough so to this end this off â i wanted to say thank you. apologies for the length & how all over the place this message might be but iâve been carrying these thoughts for a while and didnât want to let the series pass without telling you what it meant to me 𼺠if thatâs okay !! itâs genuinely one of my favorite things iâve ever read in general, and i know iâll come back to it many more times in the future !! thank u for ur services again loveliest six âĄ
â signed, a long time fan of urs !!! đ
anon đĽšđĽšđĽši genuinely teared up reading all of this hello?? iâm so glad i decided to check tumblr today, even though iâm a day late AAAAGHHH
HELLO this wasnât messy at all. i think you worded your thoughts wonderfully and i am honored my work is the subject of it đââď¸ and omg, such a long time fan!!! i was really surprised to receive an ask when iâve been so busy and inactive đđ
iâm so happy to hear that you liked the way i wrote lyney!! my favorite thing to hear will always be the fact that you guys think my characterization is accurate aaahhh And i absolutely adore your analysis for âhomeâ ! âthe idea that leaving was never a sudden actâ is so cute. iâll admit itâs one of those unintentional things that just came along with my main idea, but now that u point it out omg đĽšđĽšđĽšđĽš thatâs incredible.
i donât know who you are anon but i hope you know much i truly truly appreciate this đâ¤ď¸this is exactly the kind of message writers need in their lives (and it makes writing thawed so worth it) and thank you so so much for taking the time to write all of this out. i canât even fathom itâover something i created so long ago? it felt so distant before but this just reminded me how much i loved writing thawed. and how it means so much to me that there are people like you out there who might possibly love thawed as much as i do, if not more đ
again, thank you so much! iâm pinning this on my wall btw.
fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didnât grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like âbro what is this đ.â why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.
âcollege is absolutely nothing like thisâ âwhy are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one gameâ âso tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!â
if you donât like a fic, and if you canât suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you donât have to read it. you donât have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you donât have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. itâs not giving babyâs first fandom anymore, itâs giving entitled asshole and it isnât as cute as you think it is.

phainon x gn!reader fluff, set post-ampho in a perfect world, cipher meddling, pre-relationship.
"and why do you have such a large plushie of phainon?" you stare down at the toy that cipher has thrust into your arms.
its likeness to him is uncanny; from the strands of his snowy hair to his overly complicated outfit that was hand designed by aglaea, every component of phainon was captured so well that this truly looked like a one-to-one replica. whoever designed and produced him has obviously put great care into his design.
except...
"why is he crying?"
little fabric tears dot his eyes and its small frown really makes it seem as though he's truly upset.
"don't judge a book by its cover, little y/n!" the titan of trickery scolds, "this one was the most popular! i stole him off the shelves just for you because he was one of a kind, everyone in planarcadia was a fiend for this specific one."
"you got one just for me?" you ask, looking up at her with a puzzled expression. "why me?"
"don't act like you don't want it, dear y/n."
you glance away, embarrassment creeping up your neck. you regret telling her about your (huge) crush on the hero. "do they enjoy watching people cry or something?"
"i don't know and don't care, i'm still waiting on a thanks, you know."
"thank you, cipher," you hold the soft plushie against your chest, "i'm glad i have an adorable version of phainon now."
she chuckles, "you should give plushienon a kiss to cheer him up!"
"don't call him plushienon, and i'm not kissing a toy!"
"aww, c'mon, it's just the deliverer boy, what's wrong with that?"
"it's embarrassing and juvenile!" you murmur, hiding behind the tufts of white hair.
"it's embarrassing to show the love of your life some affection?" she pouts, dramatising a pout. "this isn't even him, what will you do when it is the real deal?"
"fine!" you huff. "i'll kiss him!"
she giggles, satisfied. you press a fleeting kiss to his covered forehead, the fabric soft underneath your lips. you don't linger long, getting ready to sass cipher with a quip, but the words die on your tongue when you notice something unbelievable.
the small frown and teary blues that plushienon previously had have morphed into a beaming smile and bright eyes, the sudden change catching you off guard.
what is this elation magic- you swear he was crying before!
"little y/n, you look like you've seen a ghost! what's wrong?" cipher asks as she studies your expression with great amusement. "surely kissing him can't be that unenjoyable-"
you turn him around, "why is he happy all of a sudden?"
she begins cackling, her tail whipping. "oh my! i didn't know this thing was going to be true to life!"
"did you do something to him? you didn't use your trickery powers, did you?" you ask wildly, looking at him again to make sure that he was still smiling- and indeed he was. in fact, it seems as though he's grinning wider.
"this is brilliant! wow, i didn't think the deliverer's obnoxiously obvious affection for you would transcend into inanimate versions of himself as well!" the demigod is beside herself now, holding her stomach with tangible glee.
"hey! what do you mean affection? and obvious?"
"you'd find out if you just show him!"
"no!" you shriek, holding the big plushie to your chest now as your flustered cries get hidden by the bustling nature of okhema's markets. "i'm not showing phainon anything!"
an all-too-familiar voice pipes up from beside you. "why not?"
this is the worst day of your life. phainon absolutely can not see you holding a large plushie of him, and he can not know that you discovered it had the ability to change expressions as soon as you kissed its fabric-covered forehead.
cipher, however, had other plans.
"deliverer boy," she greets, "you have many fans outside amphoreus, did you know that? while i was in planarcadia, i found this!"
she gestures to the plushie that you have pressed against your chest. for a moment, the two stare at you expectedly. it is with great embarrassment that you reveal the item in your arms, unable to make eye contact with the white-haired before you.
"is that me?" he questions, "am i⌠crying?"
"isn't it so cute? wouldn't you agree, y/n?" cipher prods.
"i don't think it's cute because it's crying!" you murmur, trying to defend what is left of your dignity.
"so you think it's cute because it's lord phainon?"
"cipher!" you wish the ground could swallow you whole.
"anyways, what's more important is that y/n has found an interesting discovery by kissing plushie-you's forehead. why don't you show the great hero of amphoreus?"
you frown, the heat in your cheeks now unbearable. with a grumble, you turn around so that your back was towards the pair, not allowing either of them to see you peck the plushie's forehead. turning around, its frown has now transformed into a beaming smile, delight completely painting over its previously-woeful expression.
phainon is quiet for a moment and you brace for the worst, your heart thumping wildly in your ears as you wait for him to be offended or disgusted by your discovery.
instead, it is him who completely rips the carpet from underneath your feet.
"interesting, they've captured me scarily accuratelyâŚ"
^ these are the plushies if anyone was curious/has not seen them

5K EVENT SPECIAL | EVENT MASTERLIST
Kazuha, to be frank, felt a little embarrassed.
His features stood out too much, his friends told him. To go out and enjoy the fresh air of the day, he had to not enjoy the fresh air with a face mask, conceal his red streak of hair by clipping it back and burying it under a cap, and wear green-tinted sunglasses (also to disguise the red of his eyes) that he was struggling to get used to.
In his defense, His friends werenât any better. Aetherâs braid could be recognized with only that, Ventiâs glowing braids werenât any better, Heizouâs shade of hair and green eyes would stand outâif not his unique voice, and everyone knew Xiao even if he were to shave all his hair off. Scaramouche could be salvageable, but one word from his mouth and his fans would fall to their kneesâit could be his voice, but it would be the attitude.
Kazuha felt a little too hot with his disguise, but he wanted this, so he would go through with it. He tugged his mask under his nose, relaxing at the scent of the open air. The mall had an open area with trees all over; the leaves fell to the ground, and the wind brushed past. Kazuha couldnât feel it, having been stuffed under layers, but he was satisfied.
Although it felt embarrassing to be clothed in this disguise, he couldnât go outside this freely before. He was going to make the most of it.
And then he passed by a stall that had him doing a double take. Kazuha took a few steps back, lighting up with recognition. He couldnât be mistaken, not with that familiar symbol of Anemo. The stall displayed a light stick of their group, released only a few days ago.
His friends would have a blast if he came back with it, most likely, Kazuha mused. Maybe he could bring it back as a gift.
A hand shot out from the side, blocking his view of the light stick. Kazuha blinked, a little surprised. He followed the arm's stretch and came face-to-face with an angry stranger.
âHey, you!â you said. Kazuha felt like he needed to stand straighter at the tone. âI had my eye on this one first, âkay? Whatever number you have in mindâkeep it. I finally get my hands on one of these; Iâm not letting it go!â
âOh, this was an auction?â he asked curiously. The stall didnât seem to be being run by anyone at the moment, and no one else was there.
âWell, no,â you sniffed, âbut I would win. I already told the seller I called dibs on this oneâwait until she gets back.â
Charmed, Kazuha smiled. âTwo thousand.â
âThree.â
âThree-thousand, five hundred?â
âFive-thousand, three hundred.â
Kazuha had to wonder: âHow much do these usually cost?â
âFive thousand, if youâre lucky. Iâll make it ten thousand, easy. Are you still not backing down?â
Kazuha laughed under his breath. Were you serious? Were you actually willing to drop that much for this? âAlright, I cede. I apologize for attempting to defeat you.â
You grinned, eyes sparkling quite literally as your gaze slid back to the lightstick. You were very pretty. âYeah, I thought so.â You eyed him curiously; Kazuha suddenly felt a little shy. âAre you a fan as well?â
Kazuha nodded, unable to tear his eyes away from your genuine smile for a few moments. His eyes drifted down to your shirt, which had the same Vision of the lightstickâbut there was something else. âYou could say that.â
Your shirt had maple leaves swirling around the logo, and Kazuha could recognize it all too well because he was asked to sit down and draw it for their merchandiseâsomething personal for each member. Did Kazuha have the right to suspect what it meant that you were wearing his?
Emboldened, Kazuha gestured at the lightstick. âAs a fellow enthusiast, may I extend my offer to cover this purchase?â
You blinked and stuttered. âW-Whatâ You donât have to! I literally stole it from you!â
âSo you confess that you pried it off of me?â Kazuha teased.
âThatâs notâListenââ You stared at him, then got flustered. âHold on, are you hitting on me?â
âYes.â He took off his sunglasses and tugged down his mask, flashing a sweet smile that he knew was utterly unfair. Your face bluescreened out of pure shock. Without the mask muffling his voice, it was clear as day. âSo, will you let me?â

"Beidou already left?"
Ayaka's face crumples in sympathy. "Sorry! If I had just known you needed a ride, I would've told her to delay for an hour more!"
You slump to the ground, a resigned sigh dragging out just as the fight leaves your body. Ayaka sinks to her heels beside you, rubbing your shoulders for comfort. "Don't worry, that was my fault," you murmur in defeat. "I should've asked when they were planning to sail off."
Ayaka still looks unsure, her drooped shoulders resembling those of a kicked puppy. You offer her a reassuring smile, patting her hand.
"I'm not mad," you tell her. "It's just a minor inconvenience, promise."
"But⌠you mentioned you needed to get to Mondstadt for an important matter." And Ayaka takes important matters very seriously.
Actually, the important matter in question was really just you wanting to try out their wine; and apparently, their tastiestâand cheapestâis limited for this season. It is sold as a special, as leftovers from the Windblume Festival. And it is definitely not worth Ayaka's conscience.
You cup her cheeks, feeling incredibly guilty. "It's nothing super serious. I can reschedule. See? Easyâsolved. Mondstadt isn't going anywhere any time soon, I think."
"Did we just hear you say Mondstadt?" a shrill voice pipes up a few feet away.
Of course, considering your luck, it's none other than Paimon and her trusty companion, the Traveler. Paimon's entire body wiggles as she waves at you both, while Aether's gaze is locked on you, lips quirked.
"Traveler!" Ayaka cries out, rising to her feet in an instant and all but rushing over to the pair. "You came at the perfect time!"
"Is something wrong?" Paimon asks, faltering.
"Yes," Ayaka replies swiftly before you could even cut in. "You see, Beidou has already sailed off to return to Liyue, but Y/N needed to get to Mondstadt and just missed her."
You donât like where this is going. "Hold onâ"
Paimon gasps. "Are you sayingâ?"
"I'm not saying anythingâ!"
Aether hums thoughtfully, grinning at you like he's won something. "Mondstadt? I'm sure we can afford to take a detour, can't we, Paimon?"
Paimon nods enthusiastically. "Yup! It's a good excuse to visit some familiar faces we've missed while we were off traveling!"
"Detour?" You eye him suspiciously. "From Inazuma to Mondstadt?"
Ayaka tugs you to her side, and you oddly feel like a scolded kid in the playground. "Thank you so much. I know out of anyone in Teyvat, the Traveler is someone I can trust. Please take care of my friend."
Aether grins at you. "You're in safe hands."
"We're so glad you could join us, Y/N!" Paimon says, clasping her hands in a single, delighted clap. "It's not every day we get to have another companion."
After what felt like Ayaka selling you off to the most dangerous individual on Teyvat, Aether rented out a boat built for five but crowded with two and a half. You watched helplessly as Aether tossed a heavy pouch of Mora to the dock master with the ease only a world-renowned hero could have.
"Sumeru first! We can't risk it on the ocean without Beidou's crew!" Paimon had chirped when you set sail.
You couldn't complain when they asked if that was alright, since it would be a golden opportunity to set foot on Sumeru, though the way Aether's gaze lingered on you, faintly smugâhe probably knows what you're thinking.
It was unsettling for sure, but Aether kept his distance while on the boat. Paimon had dozed off, curled up on Aether's lap. You'd braced yourself for itâthat sly grin and heated proximity, the way he did that day. But Aether stayed frustratingly polite. You don't know why you were almost wishing he would pay attention to you. To prove a point? How embarrassing.
The three of you reached a grassy stretch of Sumeru, a bit farther from civilization's reach, all rolling hills and rich with trees. You'd hesitated visibly back at the port, lingering by the city just a beat too long to take in everything. It had been so dangerously tempting to ask for them to stay. But Aether had been watching you, and there was a knowing look in his eyes that meant he could easily make up another excuse to keep you longer, and you knew yourself well enough to recognize your weakness. You wouldn't even hesitate.
"Thank you for having me," you respond politely, inclining your head. "I promise I won't be too much of a botherâyou're already doing so much for me."
Paimon waves both hands in front of her face dismissively. "Nah. Don't you worry! It's always fun for everyone to travel in a group! Right, Aether?"
Finally, you both turn to acknowledge Aether's presence, who's off gazing at something else. His hair sways along with the wind. You find yourself entranced by how the sunlight traces over it for a moment. Must be an alien thing to have gold as hair.
Paimon flutters over to her companion worriedly. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"Shh." Aether holds a finger against Paimon's mouth, his brows knitting together in concentration. "You hear that?"
The air seems to have fallen silent as well to listen; and there was only the sound of the fresh wind blowing past your ears, paired by the tickle of the grass against your anklesâthen a whirring sound vibrates the ground so heavily you can feel it in your teeth, crawling closer and closer.
Paimon rears back in shock. "That sounds likeâ"
A dragon-like machine crests the hill and ascends overhead, gears creaking and grinding ominously. And due to its sheer size, its shadow swallows all three of your bodies.
"How is an Aeonblight Drake here?" Aether curses, his wrist flicking as a strange colored light pools in his palm.
Paimon shrieks, streaking past to hide behind you.
For one breathless moment, you are too paralyzed by awe to flee. The pressure sends grass whipping around into the air with each lash of its limb, producing a mock blizzard of green.
Then the drake's lenses lock onto Aether with a click, wings rattling in the air with its rusted hingesâand suddenly, you're mimicking Aether and materialize a handcrafted bow to your grasp. The bow feels frayed and light in your handsâmeant to hunt weak animals, and not at all suitable for the size of a ruin machine that would make your arrows seem like a toothpick. But if you aim to buy seconds enough for Aether to strike it down, thenâ
Aether doesn't question your instantaneous instinct to kill, instead encouraging it with a grim nod. "Shoot at its core!" he yells over the deafening whir of the engine.
Aether's hand flares with elemental energy as the drake flies overhead. He hurls a concentrated vortex, causing it to stumble and flutter erratically. You take it as an opportunity to strikeâthe arrow hurtles as soon as its core dips into view.
It jerks back, releasing a shower of sparks. But it is not enough. It stabilizes too soon, and it locks onto you.
The realization hits just a bit too late.
You catch Aether's sharp inhale as energy crackles around the machine, its core pulsing gold and straining your eyes. It happens in a flashâbefore you even know it, a stream of energy hurls towards you. You could've dodged it, but you still feel Paimon clinging to your sleeves, terrified, and there wouldn't have been enough time for you to pull her aside without injuring her. No time at all. So you shove her to the side with your body and brace yourself for the blast that was left unavoidable.
It burns, brutal like a whip, however not bone-deep.
Paimon's cry cuts through the ringing in your ears as you push yourself up. You want to reassure her that it was nothing too seriousâit might even heal in a day, saved by the thick leather hugging your forearms.
But you don't notice how Aether stills. Don't notice the way his eyes lock onto your battered form, sleeves singed, and knocked to the ground. You couldn't even catch it if you tried, when suddenlyâ
Light.
A furious burst of energy, howling and splitting through the air. You and Paimon clutch each other in surprise, unable to see past the blinding glare.
It's unlike anything you've seen before. It is nothing like the elements Teyvat had to offer. It feels as though the ground beneath you trembled, alarmed and unfamiliar by this display of power, just entirely beyond this world.
One blink and the next, and the machine jerks unsteadily, into shuddering spasms. Its gears stutter to a halt, hanging suspended mid-air for a breath of a moment, before crashing to the ground violently, parts scattering around.
The air is heavy with the silence and the smell of smoke coming from the defeated machine.
Aether stands amid the wreckage, heaving and glowing with the same shade of the blast that killed the Aeonblight Drake in a split second. It's like his entire body is thrumming with leftover energy, begging to be released and to burst out of his body, though Teyvat could not take it. It would kill this world in one fell swoop.
Your breath comes in ragged gasps, fingers trembling from the adrenalineâor perhaps shock from the display of sheer power. Paimon is fluttering around you, though her voice sounds muffled from the ringing in your ears, and your attention is solely on the man before you.
Aether whirls around, and your gaze locks.
He stumbles toward you through the settling dust, asking if there is any bleeding or if you were limp anywhere.
You think you're answering him. You must be. But you just can't tear your eyes away from his face. His pupils are blown wide, his chestplate glowing with a light that doesn't belong in this world. A color Teyvat might not even have a name for.
Oh.
So this is why they call him the Traveler.
all this for wine Like i would just rather die hello. Also ik its inaccurate bc aether loves his dull sword but like this is sexier methinks WHOSAIDTHAT
this turned out way more action packed than what i initially planned and its very scary cus my only idea was "aether sees u injured and suddenly boss dead"
also i might? make another part since i already set up an opening for me next time so lmk if anyone's interest hehe
