Video I made about Helene "Néne" , Sisi's older sister

Today we go back to 1885.

Bad Gastein, Austria🇦🇹

Empress Elisabeth has been to Bad Gastein seven times.

Those other visits will be highlighted another time.

We describe the year 1885 for now, because during this visit a picture has been taken from Sisi and her Husband, as you can see bellow.

⭐⭐⭐

On the 6th of August 1885 she and the emperor stayed at "Grandhotel Straubinger" on the Straubingerplatz 2.

The hotel lies directly near the waterfall.

Just like Badeschloss which is opposite of Hotel Straubinger.

Here Sisi also wrote poems.

This one was written during her stay in 1885 about the waterfall next to the hotel:

"Brausende Wasser, tosender Fall,

Einförmig doch so melodischer Schall,

Müder der Körper, lauscht noch das Ohr,

Rauschen die Tön’ so bekannt ihm doch vor,

Werfen schon glitzernde Perlen in’ Traum

Süßes Gedenken, zerstäubender Schaum."

Translated in English:

"Rushing water, roaring fall, Monotonous yet so melodic sound The body is tired, the ear still listens, The sounds rush so familiar to him, Throw glittering pearls into ’dream Sweet memory, atomizing foam."

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Badeschloss was the residence of emperor Wilhelm I and his family when they came to Bad Gastein.

During this visit Elisabeth and Franz Joseph visites emperor Wilhelm I at the Badeschloss and the picture was taken of Sisi and Franz when they left the Badeschloss.

The newspaper " Linzer tages-post" that appeared on the 8th of august 1885 described the visit perfectly.

Shortly after the visit emperor Wilhelm invited Elisabeth and Franz-Joseph over for tea.

The newspapers wrote that on this occassion Sisi wore a dove-grey silk dress with black lace overgarment and with dove-grey feathers with diamonds in her hair.

They also wrote about the empress walking arm in arm with Franz from the hotel entrance.

The Hungarian party that was present said "Eljen a Kiroly"(long live the king) which made the empress smile and greeted them waving her hand.

On the 7th of august there was a gala diner in emperor Wilhelms appartement where Elisabeth was sitting next to him.

Sisi seemed to have a wonderfull time in august 1885 in Bad Gastein.

Prehaps thats why she visited it later 6 times more.

I finished a new video of the empress and her family.

I found a fun fact today.

A painting of Sophie Charlotte, duchesse d'alencon, sister of empress elisabeth.

The other picture is from a museum with a dress worn by empress Elisabeth.

See the similarities?

It was known Sisi gave away dresses...prehaps she gave this one to her younger sister Sophie, or they made a mistake and it was actually Sophies dress.

Or prehaps the painter had his inspiration of the dress of sisi.

Thats just speculating... but fascinating to see a sisi dress being actually worn by her sister.

A video i made abput the sister of empress Elisabeth, Maria sofia.

Duchess Ludovika in Bavaria.

This painting has been made in 1891 by Franz von Lenbach.

Ludovika was born on 30th of august 1808 in München.

Her father was king Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria and his second wife Caroline of Baden.

She was sister of archduchess Sophie, mother of emperor Franz-Joseph.

During the wedding of Sophie with archduke Franz-Karl in Vienna Ludovika fell in love with Miguel I of portugal.

He even fell the same towards Ludovika and asked king Maximilian the hand of his daughter.

The king declined because Miquel had plans to replace his father as king of portugal.

Later when Miguel became king of portugal he asked again but the letter with his proposal came too late, 5 days too late!

Ludovika married 5 days before the letter arrived with duke Max in Bayern.

Max in bayern was promissed to marry Ludovica's younger sister Maximiliane Josepha, who unfortunatly died young.

It was againt duke max and duchess Ludovicas will since they didn't love eachother.

But because it got the duke and his family political benefits, since she was a kings daughter, he had to marry her.

They had 9 children.

One stillborn.

Their daughter Marie Sophie became queen of two sicily.

Their other daughter Sisi, empress of austria.

Another daughter, Sophie Charlotte, died a tragic death at a charity in Paris where a fire broke out.

And her son Carl-Theodor's second wife was Marie-Jose of Braganza, daughter of King Miguel of portugal.

Her daughter-in-law was a daughter of her first love, the one she wanted and loved, the one she wanted to marry.

But the one who was to late to intervene in her faith.

If his letter got through before the wedding of duke Max and Ludovika, think how differently history would have been.

No heroin of Gaeta, Maria-Sofia.

Not the most beautiful empress of time, Sisi.

Then this page wouldn't even have existed!

Lucky for us, bad for her she had married max.

Ludovika was already widowed when this portrait was painted.

She died a year after the painting was made on 26th of January 1892 in München at the age of 83.

Miguel of Portugal actualy died today 154 years ago.
