Let’s talk about that

I recommend this site as it has a lot of info and I also recommend watching and consuming content by JPenumbra on both YouTube and TikTok

There are so many DC characters that could have a DC mainline ongoing, and yet. Still nothing.

Here are some character who I think DC should give ongoings.

Vixen - so I don’t really know much about this character, but I have heard more than once that there is an author who wants to write for this character and I think it would be great. This is a character I would actually like to get into them

Static Shock - People love this character. He’s great, and there has even been more media as of late with him in it and people talk about how they like him. We’ve even seen how people liked and wanted more black characters when

Mr. Terrific - He would be PERFECT we’ve seen him in the Superman movie where people loved him DC is setting up putting his son in a comic. His Year one book has personally been on of my favorite comics I’ve read this year.

I think there are plenty of other characters who would be great to have ongoings for these are just a couple that came up off the top of my head and there are sooooooo many that I would love to read as well.

If they can keep letting Tom fucken King write Wonder Woman for this long despite the ass ratings they can give some of their Black characters ongoings

They seemingly do not want to create and promote black ongoings and it shows, because they will let any and every white ongoings character fail and do not seem to care, but will not give us a black ongoing because it doesn’t “sell well enough” or “have high enough ratings”

DC Blackout

JPenumbra has now spoken about and brought up starting a boycott for DC. Which I think is for the best

People have brought up more than once that this is an issue but DC hasn’t listened.

I still plan to talk about comics and DC but I don’t really plan on buying there comics until they rectify this. I plan to read the comics on third party platforms online or even just not talk about the ones that I can’t read online. I will plan to mention dc blackout in some way in my post where I talk about dc, but I wanna try talking about other comics brands

Let's talk about it

I really wanted to talk about this yesterday, but I busy prepping and stuff so I didn't have the time, but today’s a new day

We start with Dreamer and Galaxy being on Themyscira, which is fun to see them reinforce idea that not only do trans Amazonian’s exist but that they are excepted, because they are women. With them even saying "All amazons come from the souls of women who have died unjustly at the hands of men. Cis, trans, all of us."

In this illusion they are both amazons and even seen that Nia is the Wonder Woman of this dream like universe

This dream world is ended when Taylor starts to suspect that this isn’t right. This isn’t there life or who they are, and this dude changes they world they are in, in an effort to try and trick her again

Next we are brought to a world where Nia is like. The Batman of this universe and is trying to stop key dude from Akashic Records.

It’s not long before we see Galaxy aka this world’s version of Superman. She mentions not knowing why be needing to talk to her about something important even if she doesn’t remember what that something is.

(Side note their designs are soooo good. Like. They cook so hard)

This also ends up leading to a fun point where the villain has gotten Nia away and Taylor is left to deal with a group of villains. In this one of them threatens her girlfriend

With her again realizing that this is not her, these aren’t her powers and this world isn’t. Real. Or at least not the world she knows and lives in and when she tries to talk to Nia again he changes her mind/the world.

We then see that some people in the JL are having issue with Dreamer and Galaxy being at the watchtower ref what happened with the prev JL comic and we see both of them seem to be in a sort of comatose type state

I also just have a mini thing to yap about involving the Batwoman mini thing at the end. I love Batwoman and despite Alya being so new I really like her and have been wanting to see more of her. I just. Wish they didn’t try to do this. Things between Alya and Kate

Because like. I know it’s not weird, but also they are both mutually related to Damian Wayne and that’s all I can think about. Lowkey.

Like. Idk. Maybe I’m the only one really thinking about this but I’d feel weird if my Aunt on my dad’s side and Cousin on my mom’s side kissed

Let’s talk about her

It’s day 4 of Pride Month and y’all get the drill by now.

Natasha is the second person to take the title of Steel with the first being her uncle John Irons.

She was always on her uncles side and was one of the few members of her family that really supported him when he moved. At some point in time John was trapped under the influence of the Entropy Aegis, a powerful armor created by Darkseid. Natasha then used Aegis tech to create her own armor to wear in her team up with Superman in order to save her uncle

After this her uncle officially passed the mantle onto her, tho later one she does loose the title of Steel due to her and John having a falling out. During this time she became a known as Starlight after she was unable to recreate her own suit, so she signed up for the Everyman Project which was created/sponsored by Lex Luther. Though she did later betray him after realizing him more evil intentions

Tho she was stripped of her powers after turning Lex over. Later still it turned out that the experiments had lingering effects and she developed new powers, the ability to phase into a gaseous form, and she took up the name Vapor.

She officially came back as steel during the New52 without much explanation if I’m being honest but. Like. Dc made a lot of interesting choices during the New52. They also, just kind of removed the powers she did have during this time. Which. Again. A bit of a weird choice to never mention it again.

Later we can see her continue to protect Metropolis in Clark Kent's temporary absence, was recruited by him for a new incarnation of The Authority. Where during their first real outing as a team where Midnighter talks about how he thinks Natasha would be a better leader the Manchester Black

Natasha is a very strong character overall and I do feel as tho dc often underutilizes her and characters like her, and while I haven’t read all that many of her appearances, I know everything I read her in I’ve felt pretty drawn to her character in some way as I think she’s very interesting and has more potential then dc gives her

Let’s talk about her

Today is both the third day of Pride Month and NCBD which means which means the new Pride comic staring Dreamer comes out which means. When could poss b a better time to talk about her.

Now Nia is a bit different from some of the other characters I will be talking about since she was first introduced not in a comic, but in the CW tv show Supergirl and was later introduced into the comics.

She was played by Nicole Maines who is transgender herself and a trans activist. Nicole was also the first person to write the character of Dreamer into the comics and has written a majority of her comic appearences

She is a Human/Naltorian hybrid who was born and raised on Earth. She has precognitive powers, she gets flashes of the future which become better when she's asleep, she can shoot energy beams, and even travel into a dream relm and go into other peoples dreams which can allow to kind of teleport tho I don't know if it is a super consistent ability.

Nia grew up in a town called Parthas. The community is a safe haven for extraterrestrials and minorities, allowing them to live openly without fear of persecution.

One of her first comics in the mainline took place in Jon son of Kal-El which is not long after she took the title of Dreamer

She's going to be in the newest pride comics as one of two trans main characters.

Let’s talk about him

It’s the second day of Pride Month and who better to talk to then the Green Arrow

Connor is the biological son of Oliver Queen and Sandra “Moonday” Hawke. He is also considered to be one of the world's greatest hand-to-hand fighters.

When Connor was first introduced he stood in solid contrast to Ollie and Roy as while they were normally more sexual and extrovert. Connor was introverted and seemingly not at that into sex. Later being revealed to be Asexual

Connor spent his younger years training in secret, in some adaptations he was even sent to the monastery that Oliver trained at. He eventually becomes the official Green Arrow during Oliver’s death. Though he does end up in a bit of a nebulous place when Oliver comes back

He was rescued but the League of Shadows after washing up on their island injured after an encounter, which ended up with him joining the Lazarus Tournament to stop the League of Lazarus with awakening a "demon". During his time on the island he and Damian become friends due to their similar upbringings/younger years.

This comic also marked us seeing him in comics again since outside of other white characters named Connor he really didn’t exist during the entirety of the New52 and his immediate past adaptation wasn’t the most accurate to what we where used to.

Last we saw him he was reunited with Oliver during the Green Arrow run.

I think seeing him in this was a lot of fun. He spent so long obsessing of his father’s legacy and being he agreed Arrow, but he in some way freed himself of that. He is more then just his fathers legacy and I would love to be able to see more of him

Virgil is just such a sick character and I really wish they used him in more media. I also would just love it if they gave him an ongoing. I’ll prob do a bigger yap once I finish this series, but I will def have to read more of his comic

Let’s talk about her

It’s the first day of gay month and I wanted to make an effort to try and yap about a bunch of queer and trans comic characters, and since I just finished reading Far Sector and I LOVE Absolute Green Lantern. Who better to start with than the Bisexual Green Lantern herself.

She is the first Female Black Queer Lantern and is still the only one that we have seen throughout the years

Jo is not your typical Green Lantern. Both in how she acts and how her ring works

Jo’s ring is weaker then a normal lantern ring and does not need to be charged as it chargers on its own, it takes roughly 6 days of now use or very minimal use.

And unlike other lanterns Jo does not live without fear. She lives with it. She has the will to power through terrifying and daunting issues tin her life and keeps pushing forward in an effort to make things better to help the world in the ways that she can

Jo brings a level of inventiveness and creativity the is efficient, and I think the limits of her rings really help and amplify that. The limitations of her rings often force her to either get creative or to solve her issues more diplomatically.

Jo is a character who will never change or alter her ethics and morals. While she wants to do what she can to help people in need she will leave a situation if she has to. We saw this when she was talking to the council in Far Sector because she would not bend the way they wanted her to and when she reported her partner for attacking a citizen when she was a cop.

Even before she became a lantern she wanted to help people. Her and her father where there during 9/11 and spent there time trying to help and save as many people as they could. She later joined the military and left when she began questioning how much help she was providing.

There is almost no series I would recommend more the Far Sector and Absolute Green Lantern, and I hope more then anything she gets a mainline story again

Anyways I hope everyone has a great Gay Month and gets to do fun Gay Month things.

I’m gonna try and make an effort to talk about more of DC’s canon queer characters and Justice League Dream Girls coming out later this week.

Let’s talk about it (I know I’m late but shhhhh)

In this issue we learn that it seems Witchfire was most likely a misdirect which I think I prefer more than anything

Him laughing in her face like this was crazy work, but I will be adding “Read a back issue” to my lexicon

I also like him basically choosing to follow and help her on her mission to deal with this dark magic in the area of Metropolis and fight a demon.

Punk/Goth Prime was a DELIGHT to see. He’s kind of a dork here, but he’s kind of a dork all the time.

Also I feel like this dancing goes crazy cause what is he doing.

The fun thing about reading these latest issues from the Superman series is that since Prime is here we get a lot more fun little details like this or him in general messing with the panel and similar stuff

Not only did we get a sort of mini flashback to some of his killings in the past we also got to see him let loose in a way he hasn’t been able to while fighting Lady Blaze and Lord Satanus.

And this final more angel like spell Witchfire did was amazing and the art was so beautiful. 10/10 I wanna see more of this all the time. I cannot get enough of it. The art and style was just so beautiful

Now onto my favorite part of this issue. This series of events was just to die for. First you have Manchester Black messing with his ability to talk, then literally PULLING him out and through the comic

especially pulling him through the add for Superman: Father of Tomorrow was just so much fun to see in this

Now I loved his first offical meeting with Manchester Black was so fun taking him outside of the comic and Prime basically not really being able to do anything about it. Not only that, but taking Prime back to some of his worst moments during Dark Crisis when he was younger was just the icing on the cake. I absolutely cannot wait till for the next issue

And remember a of now there is still the boycott happening with dc until a mainline black ongoing is annoyced, and while I know it seems pretty likely that one for Vixen will come out, nothing is for sure yet so until then, I will be reading this and other issues online for free and recommend you do the same (I do have more info in ref to this on my pinned post)

Stephanie Williams is an amazing author in dc and currently on threads she is posting about big news coming up. While she has not said what it is, some people have been speculating that it could be a Vixen run. Which I would absolutely love.

I still would love to support any series she’s gonna be working on tho. If I’m being honest. I do. Really. Really hope it’s Vixen.

Personally my plan is to for the most part not buy any dc comics and just read them on a third party site BUT I do still plan to buy DC comics that are

1. Written/lead by a black creative team

2. Books who have black character leads (ie. absolute Green Lantern, Absolute Catwoman, or any older dc book where the lead is a black character)

3. With pride month coming up, I will be buying the series for that month. This books is being lead by trans characters and is being written/lead by trans creator(s) and with a lot of the stuff happening with and around trans people I do still absolutely want to support them
