Due to recent events within the Isola community, i’m going to be dropping both of my muses to move elsewhere. I most likely will not be coming back to Isola in the near future, unless something is seriously done within the mod staff. Pathfinder had learned two important things about the monsters within an hour of them first appearing: 1) that they’re extremely hostile, and 2) he can’t see other peoples’ monsters, and they can’t see his.

Despite that, he’s not really scared of them. He’s seen and survived too much to be alarmed by a horde of weird, glitchy silhouettes. They can be hurt and they can be killed, which is enough for him to know he can take the fight straight to them if necessary. They obey the laws of physics, more or less, which means he can escape the ones he can’t fight.

The aforementioned necessary comes in the form of a hungry Siren, and her spoken wish to reach the nearest gas station in search of food. He offers to accompany her, naturally, which leads to the discovery of 3) they’re witnessing different apocalypses, too.

That is considerably more troublesome than the monsters. How is he supposed to help people with his scouting skills when nobody is seeing the same terrain?

One of the monsters catches him by surprise when he shoulders down a door (which doesn’t exist for Maya, inexplicably) to enter the abandoned station. It tackles him to the ground, its two-dimensional jaws snapping at his optic, and he batters its underside with rapid kicks while holding those teeth at bay with an arm against its throat.

The pair roll across the floor, both struggling to gain the upper hand until Pathfinder finally frees himself. He grabs its head in both hands and swings it around, slamming its body into a shelving unit. Boxes of Jumbo Honey Buns topple from the highest shelf to form a mound over the unseen (and now very dead, he hopes) monster.

Hoping that they share at least this one instance, he picks up a box and offers it to Maya as he voices a concern: “How are we going to pay for these when the owner isn’t here?”

    After being woken up and stuck on a rooftop for around an hour and a half, it’s no wonder Maya was grumpy and a little peckish. Apocalypse or not, a woman has got to eat, and she was lucky to have a best friend that would do something as silly as this with her. 

    This entire situation was offputting and scary, especially when she watched Pathfinder wade through a swath of lava totally unscathed. That’s about when they both learned number 3, much to her displeasure. The skags, crystalisks and rakk she could handle but... not being able to keep the people around her safe? That was terrifying.

    It was made even more terrifying when Pathfinder is brought to the ground by an invisible force right in front of her eyes. 

    ❝ Pathfinder! ❞ She calls out, taking steps towards the scuffle before she remembers... 

    Its good that she ends up not having to intervene, her robot friend once again proving that he’s one hell of an ally to have in a situation like this. She stands rigidly in the the middle of the doorway, only relaxing once he offers the box of pastries. A slushy and sweets can’t fix this whole situation, but hell, it might lessen the sting slightly!

    ❝ ...I didn’t really think of that. ❞ She mumbles, taking time to cast a sweeping look over the place,  ❝ This is kind of an emergency, I don’t think the owner would mind... Push comes to shove, we can always come back once this is all said and done and try and pay then. ❞

    She barely has time to clamor onto the roof when the rumbling starts. An earthquake, signaling the awakening of something that should be dead... On the horizon, she see’s it’s six legged shape careening out of a gush of molten rock. Even from this distance, Maya can recognize it as The Warrior. There was a moment where she felt fear, and then another where she felt intense, crushing guilt. 

     There was another rumble, heralding the arrival of another problem. In the streets below, she could make out the forms of crystalisks and skags dragging themselves out of the torn up ground. Except these ones were made of static, lacking a definite shape. Her fear and guilt were now mixed in with a healthy dose of uncertainty, a deadly cocktail.

      Was this her fault somehow? Had she brought this here? There was no way for her to know... What she did know, however, was that she had a gun and she had herself. Flicking the safety on her Plasma Caster off, she took a single deep breath, before accepting that no matter what, she’d handle this.

    ❝ Not again. ❞ She said to herself.

❝ We’re gonna scorch the freakin’ planet in fire... There’s gonna be screaming. Bandits are gonna die left and right... I can’t WAIT! ❞

•🌋 THE CITY

   Her worst nightmare come true, Maya now sees Spirale consumed in fire and flame. The sky is blotted out with ash and a raging storm, and the air is visibly thick with the heat. Lava has also began pouring from several locations, and is slowly overtaking what’s left of the crumbled city!

    The surrounding areas have also been cut off by a massive wall of smoke. It’s nigh impossible for her to push through, so leaving the city isn’t an option for her right now.

•🔥 THE MONSTERS

    Roaming the streets are static versions of beasts that are familiar to any Pandoran. Ravenous skags, swooping rakk and ever lumbering crystalisks wander through the walls of smoke, just as deadly as they are back home. 

    Where the Lake of the Koi was, a particularly large pool of lava has taken it’s place. In it’s depths lurks the beast known as The Warrior, which will occasionally leap from it’s home to wreak havoc on the surrounding area. Be sure to keep out of it’s way.

•⚡ THE SIREN

   Maya’s taken to rooftop hopping at the moment. The lava moves slow, but it will eventually topple most structures given the chance, so she can’t stay in one place for very long.

    This is a situation she’s had to deal with before, so she can handle herself just fine. Doesn’t mean she likes it, though! In fact, she’s quite upset about this! Having all that trauma dug up like this doesn’t exactly make for a happy camper. At least she has her gun!

    The new presence of Eridian stuff in Spirale is kind of making her Siren powers act up. It makes her feel a little out of it, and she might end up pulling a Lilith and pass out if she’s not careful. Here’s hoping she doesn’t accidentally liquefy someone.

•💥 POSSIBLE THREAD IDEAS

    • Want to become a Vault Hunter? Well, first you’ve got to hunt yourself a Vault monster, and with The Warrior hanging around... Well, no better time than the present!

    • A pack of hungry skags is everyone’s worst nightmare. Especially if you’re stuck on a crumbling rooftop with no food, no water, and not much of an escape plan. Better hope they’re not hungry enough to climb up!

    • Anybody need a Siren on their side? Apocalypse or not, Maya’s still a gun for hire, and man, her trigger finger is itching. If you want 27 years of intense physical training and brain melting powers to back you up, she’s just a text away.

  Having to practically chase down someone they wanted to talk with was nothing new to them– memories of frantically flailing after field drones were still plenty clear– so her apology was swiftly shrugged off, with a thumbs up to punctuate it the gesture. They had popped in out of nowhere, so hey, they couldn’t blame her!! They were fairly easily distracted themself, really; had to be, when demons liked to fly at you from all directions. Or crawl. Or sprint. Or teleport… regardless! She was just fine on the whole being distracted thing. It wasn’t as if they were in a rush– they had virtually no sense of time. 

  If the fact they were bombarding her with questions at the crack of dawn hadn’t made that clear enough. They gave her the time to actually process their question, tugging on the paper in their hands and bobbing on their heels a bit as they waited. Their face visibly brightened as she smiled to them, though, and they were quick to flash a toothy grin in return! All friendly terms, and she was even getting what they were saying. Damn, today was turning out to be one hell of a good day! Pun not intended. 

  ‘Directions’ and ‘Mistwood’– they didn’t know the name, but the Slayer could garner enough from context clues to give her a quick and eager nod. They paused, holding up a ‘wait’ motion before they added a few more details to their drawing. Turned it again, this time to point at a hastily drawn rabbit they added to their forest.

  Yeah!! Man, yer good at this, pa!! Okay. More specific, not for any reason other than me wantin’ t’ ramble. I wanna go there, t’ see these. 

    The energy this stranger was putting off was pretty infectious, and as she stood there with her arms crossed, her smile couldn’t help but widen. She knew the plight of not having enough friendly faces around very well, with how everyone on Pandora insisted on shooting at her the very second they caught wind of her. Doesn’t make making friends very easy.

    Again, she watches as they scrawl out a new addition to their portrait, actually excited to see what would be added next. 

    ❝ A... rabbit? ❞ The Siren cocks her head to the side,  ❝ The Mistwood has plenty of rabbits if you’re looking to hunt a few! Or just... look at them, I suppose. ❞

    She wasn’t lying, that place was absolutely teeming with all kinds of fuzzy creatures. You were bound to find anything from mice to deer, but the further in you went, the less fuzzy and more frightening things became... Maybe that was worth noting before this fellow waltzed in and got jumped by a freaky shadow monster.

of course it’s another one of these stupid inhumans. cat scowls when she’s called out for her unsightly behavior instead of feared, no longer having an excuse to cackle and scurry away. she clenches her teeth, taking her time to come up with what would be ‘appropriate’ to say in response.

“ at least i’m giving you time to run before i sink my teeth into your neck. “ she hisses. idle vampiric speak rolls off the tongue much better than any attempts to play ‘nice’ or act ‘cordial‘. at the end of the day, cat doesn’t notice maya’s hint at wanting more space. despite the words coming naturally, she didn’t bring any fangs to bare. her brows twitch into furrowing.

“ so many pints only sate me for so long… but i have no interest in anyone tainted with ink. “ part of the art of scaring people is choosing her battles wisely, and it’s clear that maya could very easily kick her ass if she so much as breathed in a way that showed she was going to fight… speaking is always difficult, but she’s never felt intimidated before.

     ❝ That’s a threat I haven’t heard in awhile. ❞ She chuckles under her breath, ❝ Though, I hate to break it to you; I’m not much for running. ❞ 

      Closing her book a bit too loudly, Maya comes to her feet to face this stranger. It was quickly revealed that she was quite a bit bigger than Cat, which made assessing if she was an immediate threat or not an easier task. It probably didn’t help with the whole intimidation thing she had going on, though.

      Satisfied that she maybe probably might not shiv her in the side when she turned around, Maya stepped past her to put her book back on the shelf, all while retrieving a new one. 

    ❝ If you’re talking about my markings, then good news, there’s no ink here. But to be honest for a moment, blood isn’t a very nutritious diet in the first place. You should try the more meaty bits. ❞ Stepping around her, she offers her the book, which turned out to be a study on human anatomy! At least she was playing along, and all with the slightest smile too.

having recently been informed that there is a preternatural forest beyond the southern borders of the city, corvo decides to take a look for himself. serkonos has greenery to boast of in its own right, but most of the larger temperate forests belong to gristol and morley. 

he does not think he’s ever seen one in person. the trees are much denser than he expected.  there is an eerie quiet that hangs over the branches as he walks, as if the songbirds have gone to sleep early. corvo is not exactly well-armed, and he can only hope that dangerous wildlife has a minimal presence on the treeline fringes.

at the very least, if trouble finds him, he can blink away.

     Normally, falling into the lull of meditation was easy for Maya. For her, it was basically second nature after all these years. But that day, not even the crisp air and overwhelming quiet of the Mistwood could get her to relax. Too much stress? Probably... Either way, it wasn’t happening any time soon.

    Swinging her legs off the side of the rock she was sitting on, Maya gave a hearty sigh of acceptance. It was frustrating, but this wasn’t the first time, and it wouldn’t be the last. On the bright side, if she wasn’t getting any meditation in, then she could at least catch herself something to eat!

    Maya drew her gun and held it close as she dropped into the brush surrounding her usual meditating spot. Hunting out here was actually quite easy, with how bizarrely quiet everything was. If you strained your ears, you could hear a pin drop! Or... in today’s case, cracking twigs. That’s strange, she thought to herself as she moved through a patch of trees, deer don’t usually come out this way.

    She fell into a crouch on instinct, flicking the holosight of her Plasma Caster up in case she had to be ready. The footfalls were getting closer, and part of her was excited to finally have something that wasn’t cup noodles for dinner! Unfortunately, as she hopped up out of the brambles, it wasn’t a deer she was pointing her gun at, but... a man.

Yeah she knew that hair, those tats, that bod. Oh how long should had liked all of it, that and the general badassery. And then things happened and uh… It was awkward.

But this? This was reason for Tina to tear up and basically glomp the Siren, not caring if this Maya was younger than the one she knew.

“I! AM SO GLAD! YOU’RE ALIIIVE!!!”

    Maya was the type to be prepared for almost anything, but having someone jump on her back all of a sudden wasn’t something she was expecting to have to deal with that early in the morning. Instinctively, she went to try and throw the assailant off, before she realized—

    ❝ Hold on a minute... Tina? Is that you? What the hell are you—  ❞

    Even though she was still pretty shocked, she could recognize that voice anywhere. Loud, boisterous and just the right amount of crazy, it had to be Ms. Tiny Tina. Though a quick glance proved that she wasn’t the same rabid little 13 year old she was familiar with.

🐢 Mental Health headcanon

Maya has PTSD, no doubt about it in my mind. Going through what she went through under Sophis is deeply traumatic and I can imagine that she still hasn’t recovered all these years later. Hearing his voice when she’s laying down to rest, seeing his face when there’s nothing there… She’s gotten better at dealing with it, but it doesn’t make it less scary. 

Another very personal headcanon of mine is that she has ADHD, something she has kind of just accepted at this point. She has a lot of ways to cope with it, and if you’ve ever wondered how she can read a 600 page book in a day, it’s because of those good ol’ hyperfixation powers.

🦄 Physical Health headcanon

You don’t leave Pandora without a few scars, and Maya is DEFINITELY no exception to that rule. She’s been shot, stabbed, punched, kicked, bit, stung, blown up, ran over… Everything short of dying, basically. To say she’s resilient would be an understatement.

Her front is dotted with scars from the various bullet wounds she’s won herself over the years, and her back isn’t much different. On her leg is a long row of scars from when a skag got a hold of her calf, which is a wicked story to tell since not many people get out of that kind of situation alive. 

Other than the scars and the occasional stiff limb, Maya’s pretty healthy!

⌛ Sleep headcanon

Maya is an extremely quiet sleeper, who doesn’t toss and turn a lot and is usually fine just sleeping on her side the whole night. You’d think that’d make her an easy person to camp with but… there’s two glaring issues she has with sleeping.

1.) She is, without a doubt, the WORST blanket hog in this galaxy or the next. No one is safe. You can sleep a few yards away from her and you will still wake up cold. She knows she does it and she’s actively tried to stop doing it, but it’s just something out of her control. And on top of that…

2.) Sometimes, she just flat out sleeps with her eyes open. It’s not a medical condition, it’s just… something that happens on occasion. No one knows why she does it, and it feels weird having a pair of glowing eyes digging into the back of your head while you’re trying to sleep.

Because of all this, she’s usually the first to take watch during the night, so everyone else can get their Z’s in undisturbed.

💕 Love headcanon

Maya has a difficult and strange relationship to love, and that’s just flat out canon. She didn’t get to experience it very much when she was growing up, and she definitely never thought she’d get to feel what it’s like to love someone else. Maya always assumed that love was something other people did, not her.

She took to the familial, platonic love pretty quick. All the Vaulties did, honestly. The six of them became tight knit and extremely close within the first few weeks of knowing each other. That bond did wonders for her, because she’s never really had a family before then… There’s no group of people in the WORLD that Maya cherishes more than her fellow Vault Hunters, and she has and will continue to take bullets for them.

Romantic love is… much more complicated. Again, she assumed that love was something other people did. She was presented with very traditional views on how love worked, and how it was ‘supposed’ to be. The ideas of getting married to a man, having a man sweep her off her feet, having a man to take care of her and be by her side never… appealed. She couldn’t get why all the women in novels and such reacted the way they did to this kind of affection, and it really confused her. Was she broken? Was something wrong with her? Certainly not, because one day, she discovered she’s a lesbian and never looked back!
