It's actually kind of ridiculous how trans women have been pushed out of transmisogyny, like the mythical flawlessly passing perfectly feminine femboy who has to tell the audience stand in flirting with him "Actually I'm a guy" is just the same transmisogynistic joke since the fucking nineties of someone flirting with a woman and then suddenly noticing they're trans except now in a progressive turn of events, there are no more trans women! To prevent transphobia we have erased trans women while keeping the exact same jokes used against them for decades! We hope to make a much more sensitive and respectful place without trans women for everyone!

It’s a fascinating inversion (?) of “drawing a girl and then adding the sign of mars to indicate she is a warrior” to draw a girl and then call her a “boy from venus” and then have that both that “boy” and the cis misandrist girl think of “him” as separate from men.

The thing about the comic is that if without the pages from the first post, it does read like it’s just an about a trans girl. It’s not good. It’s rather quite bad. But I read a lot of trashy crossdressing manga, so I do have the stomach for it. I think the real issue is that unlike (most of) those trashy crossdressing manga, this comic is super popular and being held up as this paragon of gender nonconformity. This does also occasionally happen with said manga (senpai wa otokonoko is one example) and it makes it much more grating. It’s the kind of thing where if it wasn’t super popular I could enjoy it for what it was and make fun of its flaws and only talk about it with other transfems who either have similar tastes or at least get it even they don’t like it. But if it gets held up as unassailable depictions of how important “gnc cis men” are, there is no space to do any of that without getting yelled at by tme people. And given who this comic was made by, it was inevitable that it becomes this.

I really hate the way people will use the word "pretentious" as a way to describe art that engages in intellectual topics or has an unconventional presentation; in no small part because art that is actually pretentious genuinely drives me up a fucking tree
