Okay chat allow me to disclose my strong headcanon for Leo's leadership and behavior in the beginning of the movie

he does not look very overjoyed about being appointed leader. that does not look like a joyous expression. that looks like Dread and Fear

We got smug

Raph starts ranting about his own duties and whatnot, Leo CLEARLY hears because he looks sad or worried or whatever

THEN we get the "sorry,,, i missed that. can you repeat everything from,,, well. everything? >:」"

And then they fight and Leo is completely leaning into it,,, people could say he's just ragebaiting but

I fully believe Leo is self-sabotaging here, whether intentional or not. He does not see himself as worthy/fit to be leader, or he thinks he's gonna get everyone hurt or let them down, or he thinks he's gonna fail, or he's scared of the responsibility, or a combination of those, or whatever. So he's trying to ruin it for himself. If he's the one that causes the leader role to be taken, if he's the reason it goes wrong, then it won't hurt like it would if he genuinely tried his best and still ended up failing the others, as he believes he will. He has the control, so it can't hurt him. Consciously, subconsciously, whatever, he is doing the complete opposite of Raph. Raph shows maturity, Leo leans into immaturity. "Look guys, look how immature I am, look how careless I am, is this really a good leader? Remember how much better Raph was?"

I really like how the dynamics can be summed up as:

The Splinters: 😡🤜🤛😡(I hate you because you represent everything I hate about myself)

The Leos and Raphs: 😒🫸🫷😒(I’m jealous and can’t believe you’re a version of me)

The Donnies and Mikeys: 😄🤝😅(You’re kind of weird, but I like you—let’s be friends)

I love how you really capture what the dynamic between both versions and their counterparts would be like... I think if both series still existed, this would be a great approach to an awesome crossover

I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks bringing these two versions together would be fantastic, simply because they’re so different. The dynamic wouldn’t just focus on how different they are as a group, but also on how different each of them is from one another and how they’d clash because of it

Since you found Splinter to be a bad father, what about Draxum?

I don’t consider Draxum a parent. Did he genetically engineer these turtles? Absolutely, but that doesn’t make him a parent and Mikey wanting him to be one doesn’t mean he is.

I think with enough time and effort the boys could consider him if they so choose, but he’s most definitely not a parent

Did you happen to notice the stans entitlement when it comes to Leosagi? Not saying all of them are like that, if anything I found them pretty talented artists! But there are bad apples of them that would get pissed off if they happen to found people not liking that ship, or God forbid, completely disinterested of the ship.

I’m so offline that I’m responding to asks a year later I am so sorry.

I personally just don’t enjoy Usagi’s character (the teenager, the adult I find super funny) and I think he’s a more watered down version of riseLeo. The fandom is definitely entitled and it makes me wanna engage with them even less, I genuinely believe it’s just a very overhyped mediocre ship lol. Treating it as canon is the biggest problem in any fandom and Leo / sagi’s are no different in that aspect.

At the end of the day, I block them, mute the ship and any version and continue my day because I know that fanon is just that and the canon rise tv show has no romance for the boys, thankfully!!
