"you like her, yes?" tagah asks aang during a moment of peace. no other obstacles threaten the airship as it glides through the skies, high above the bed of clouds below. "oh i'm sorry, i mean you love her."
aang looks towards you, his smile as he watches you talk excitedly with the rest of the gaang. you're laughing happily with toph at something sokka had said and grinning at zuko's playful annoyance as katara rolls her eyes with a smile. the setting sun's colours spill into the cabin, painting you in beautiful hues of soft reds and gently burnt oranges. the sight curls around his heart and lingers there, soothing any doubts he may have had up until then.
"i do love her," aang says easily, like he's filling air into his lungs. "she's been with me through every thing and helped me discover a lot about myself. she's my other half and i don't know where i'd be if i hadn't met her."
"a soul mate, i see." tagah nods, also looking your way. "those are rare to come by so you should keep her close. cherish her."
"i don't plan on doing anything else," aang says honestly. if he somehow ever let you go then consider him gone from this realm and as selfish as it sounds, he hopes he goes first because living a life without you isn't worth living. "i'm, um, actually planning to propose soon."
tagah looks back at him, his smile wide. "oh? that's joyous news!" he exclaims, reaching out to wrap a heavy arm around aang's shoulders. "and to think that there'll be air normads at your union. to witness the avatar making sacred vows with the one he loves the most." he tilts his head to gaze at the horizon. "isn't that a wonderful thing?"
aang glances at tagah before following his line of sight, taking in the sunset in all of its glory. he thinks all that tagah has said and can't resist the urge to grin.
the future looks blindingly bright.
"yeah, it'll be wonderful."
tagah pats his back firmly, as if setting everything they've said in stone.
