The way Niall holding a knife behind Ruben's back😙👌🏻 Episode 5 really proved that Niall is the insidious one. His violence isn't physical like Ruben's; it's entirely emotional. They are basically the same person. Ruben's violence is just direct and physical, while Niall's is indirect and deeply manipulative.

I always focus on the trauma from Ruben's dad but this scene reminds me of how Maura tickled Niall with absolutely zero sense of boundaries, to the point where he literally had to push her off to make her stop. It proves that his mom has absolutely no concept of personal space either. In Ruben's family, boundaries simply do not exist. This lack of boundaries in his family explains why Ruben has zero boundaries with 'his brother'. Right before his SA he reminds Niall they are brothers from another lovers —he leans into that family label because to Ruben being family means having no boundaries anyway. This is also one of the reason why they adopted the 'brother' dynamic in the first place. They can't be lovers but their bond is way too intense to just be friends so 'brother' is the only label left to justify their closeness.
