حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Allah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He; on Him do I rely, and He is the Lord of mighty power.

Something I would do

I’m currently going to school in Raleigh and am surrounded by triggers reminding me of the Chapel Hill shooting. Whenever I go to the masjid, I look at the first row of the men’s musalah and remember hearing one of Deah’s friends saying he would always be at the first row every night for Taraweeh. Whenever I leave the masjid, I drive by the soccer field where their funeral was held. I see the parents and siblings of Deah, Yusor and Razan at events within the community. I see the friends that used to smile and laugh with them in pictures pass by me.

Though I’m grateful for being able to be a part of this community, the pain of that day will never get easier to deal with.

I pray that Allah grants them the highest level of Jannah, forgives them of any misdeed, and allows their families to reunite with them in Jannah.
