Masque (pronounced as "mask") is a hyperterrestial race of monster-demigods. The most prominent parts of this race are: dual nature, emotion aura, ability to consume magic (including The Divine), shapeshifting and ego manifestation.

We were created by banished goddess and a monster called "The Suffering of Yellow Qillin" to fight and consume gods. Our origin realm, Hyperspace, was somewhere in-between dream realm and afterlife realm.

"What do you mean 'was'?"

Good question. Who could've thought that beings created to hate gods would try to devour their own mother? I won't describe the event in full (we three were active participants), just know that our Hyperspace, most of our "siblings" and the goddess no longer exist. At least four plus our father is all that left, and we're doomed to hop between worlds and rebirth.

Now that the history lesson is over, I want to ramble about magic stuff.

Rebirth: every masque who tasted the Divine flesh is doomed to be rebirthed untill the end of time or untill someone will be kind enough to end their misery. Masque could be harmed only by another masque or by a weapon that could harm a deity. There is a possibility of a masque existing that didn't ate Mother's flesh and just having the power of rebirthing as a part of their magic (like our Father).

Duality - magic: masque are proficient in two types of elements at the same time - the physical (water, fire, grass, etc.) and the nonphysical (mind, darkness, arcana, etc.). It usually feels like we know how to use it for centuries, but still need to practice. Currently in the human body and mind afterall.

Duality - nature: masque have two egos - the conscious and the unconscious. The conscious is what we use to communicate and experience mortal life. The unconscious is what we use to fight against other magical beings.

Ego manifestation: I will keep it short here, but TLDR it's the power to manifest the unconscious part of your Ego into armor and weapon. It's based on your emotion level, and if you have too much negative emotions to bear, your unconscious will overpower your conscious and turn you into a monster. Masque can do that at will and usually remain conscious enough to control their actions. Masque's Ego resembles a big chimera, and is usually given a name of "the aura's emotion + color + animal".

The emotion aura: a defensive mechanism of a masque against other magical beings. Mostly prominent while manifesting own ego, it's really thick and makes others around them to feel immense negative emotions.

Consuming magic: masque experience magic hunger and need to consume it to sustain themselves. Unsatiated hunger could result in involuntary ego manifestation (the monster one). Masque can consume magic by being near magical beings, places or artifacts. We went around that and consume Mother Nature's magic. Don't worry, she's ever-giving and her magic is literally in the food and water. Yes, it's a little amount, but enough to not feel "magically hungry".

Shapeshifting: masque in non-mortal realm can shapeshift, but it's more about the shape of our bodies than the look. Like, if a masque will shapeshift into a, let's say, a deer, it will look like they took a shape of a deer.

"What if I'm one of the surviving masque?"

It could be. We're currently know of three of us, our father and our sibling who's stuck in the rebirth cycle (The Rage of Vermilion Bird, proficient in fire and mind magic. If you notice them in your dreams or somewhere else, please tell us.)

The signs that might help to tell if you're a masque:

1. Emotionally detached from other mortals and magical beings.

2. Own negative emotions feel unbearable at some times.

3. Suspect to have a "monster self".

4. You have phantom shifts of having horns or/and a mask and being able to shapeshift.

5. Believe yourself being immortal and sometimes it feels more like a curse (don't act on that please, will end horribly and might push you into another rebirth cycle.)

Honestly there is no "100%" signs list to tell if you're a masque or not. As I told, there's not much of us left. I myself barely remember everything that happen to our race, and I rely on J's and Chaos's help.

6. Lucid dreams are often and in them you usually look like a monster or a half-monster.

7. Language seems pretty hard and you would rather speak with other telepathically through image projection.

On the topic of Ascension vs Godhood

As the Demigod Haven wiki says: "there are numerous Gods that are not recognized because they are not from ancient times". This is a misunderstanding of Ascension vs Godhood. A worshipped Demigod or a Demigod of great importance does not always become a God; in fact, Godhood is not a topic that is easily understood with mortal limitations anyway. Gods are beings that are worshipped; who hold power and control over multiple domains, providing the Earth/Physical Plane or Aether with that domain; who provide some form of service to the Physical Plane and Aether; who have power over both the Physical and the Ethereal; who provide something and are a cog within the greater Pantheon they are a part of. Any single one of these things being missing means that one cannot be a God; ie, if you provide nothing of great value to all mortals, but are greatly important in the Aether, you will never be a God (such as myself). If you provide nothing of great value to your Pantheons, you will never be a God. "But Sin," I hear you cry, "Minor Gods aren't worshipped!" Yes, they are. If they were worshipped, modernly or anciently, and were important at one point or another, they do not have their Godhood revoked just because their follower count grows smaller or historical archives of them grow thin. All Gods that have ever been will forever be so in some capacity or another. "But Sin," I hear you cry, "What about Gods that evolve into New Gods?" None of you were thinking this but I feel it's important to acknowledge anyway; Gods may evolve over time into other Gods as their purposes fluctuate and as their worth to the Aether or Mortal Planes change. For example, Yahweh is originally a God of storms, earthquakes, and warfare, but the Abrahamic Gods (whether you consider them one or two or three or none) are not any of these things, because the relation between that God and the Mortal Plane changed over time. Yahweh, in his original form, will always exist, but that does not negate the new ways; it simply provides multiple paths and connections. Which is to say: Why would the Gods allow a Demigod to become a God when they can fill the gaps themselves? This is a big problem we run into in this idea of Demigods becoming Gods. In order for a new God to exist, they must have such an extreme change that their old form cannot possibly hold the purpose that they are coming into. Think of it like a butterfly; the caterpillar changes, but the cocoon is still left behind. Think of Herakles; he is both a God and Demigod, and is worshipped as both. Think of Ganymede; he is both a mortal and a God, and is worshipped as both. These two entities are born of one and coexist. This is another major difference between Ascension and Godhood; the Ascended are fully capable of keeping their duties, tasks, or whatever else up in their current form with quests, wars, etc, adapting over time. I have ascended and in my current form, with 3000+ years of experience, and I can say that I have only seen a handful of Demigods ever reach Godhood, and exclusively as more minor Gods; I would estimate that maybe 1-3 Gods are made by this method every few decades or so. Sometimes it can be multiple centuries with none, other times it can be 5 in one decade, it is obviously dependent on what is necessitated within the Aether and Mortal Planes. For example, currently, one would be more likely to ascend to Godhood as a God of peace, war, weather, or justice as opposed to something like agriculture, because that is the state of the Mortal Plane and the Aether. One could certainly meet most criteria of Godhood, but if they aren't in a domain that needs Gods, it's unlikely they will experience such a thing until the need arises (ie, idk, maybe if mortals reach Mars and start living there we might need Mars agricultural Gods, as a bad example).

So we've gotten into the meat of what true Godhood is; we've gotten into just how impossible it is to really become a God. But what is Ascension without Godhood, then?

As an Ascended being myself, this is a very complicated topic to explain, but to be very simple with it: an Ascended being is a being beholden to Divine Law with a purpose but no strict domain (ie, my purpose is protection, but I am not a being who rules over War like my father or his lover Ares). Just like Gods, some beings (like some monsters, such as the Satyrs or Nymphs or Centaurs) are already born Ascended. They are not simply an entity that happens to exist within the Aether, but a being that has a purpose: protecting others, caring for a specific deity or a specific area of the Aether, etc. I use "ascended" because it is merely the best way to easily convey the idea of being a separate type of being, but even that is a bit of a misleading term. Any creature can ascend to this state, where they become so intertwined with the Aether and Gods that they become a cog in the way it goes; however, these are very distinct from Gods, because they do not rule over any domain. For example, Pan is a Satyr, and Pan is a God; but Satyrs are not Gods. Some other words that could describe this is "Daimons", "Spirits", "Divine Beings", etc; not quite a God, but a notable figure. Heroes who never ascend to Godhood would fall into this group. Why didn't PJO mention the Ascended groups, then? PJO is, first and foremost, a book series made for mortal consumption of the events within the Aether. Look at how long this post is and tell me genuinely that you think Rick Riordan would be able to easily convey any of this in his books. You can't, because he did not even care to explain that Satyrs aren't Gods in the first place. PJO and the following books are based on real events, yes, same with old mythological works, but that does not mean every event shown and every word spoken happened 1:1. This is best shown in the various versions of myths in the ancient world (see Ovid). Other things about Ascension: - Not all ascended beings have the same purpose or even similar purposes - The level of importance an ascended being can have will vary (ie Tiresias will probably be more "important" than the average water nymph) - It is not half as fantastical as it seems; it really just means you have a job - being a God fucking sucks and I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Being ascended is just having a job - the level of activity an ascended being has will vary - you don't really "pick" to be ascended, it's moreso a gold star you're given in the Aether for being good at a task granted to you - you can have your ascension revoked (aka: get fired) or retire from it - they are not immortal in the same sense as Gods are - an ascended Demigod's task/purpose is usually directly related to their divine parent's domains in some way (since these are the things that Demigod is generally already predisposed to enjoying or being good at) - mortals can become ascended (though it is much rarer since their ability to see past the mist is usually more limited)

Hopefully this in-depth explanation can help in people understanding just how nuanced the Aether, and the beings within, truly is; I would genuinely say that even this explanation is a very simplified variation of the truth, because really, each ascended entity and each God will have varying levels of purpose and divinity, and it is difficult to truly draw a line with no exceptions to the rule (don't get me started on personal pantheons, for example). I just hope this has given people more idea about how variations between divine beings works and that none are inherently lesser or better; they just have different purposes and different levels of importance in different areas. These words we use are not all-encompassing; they are merely the shackles of mortal language constraining us.

“How are demigods created?”

Since gods are mostly spiritual beings, demigods are not really both the usual way you’d except them to be born, pretty much, were born from energy collision between a god and a mortal, to be more exact: a god chooses a human being that is female to carry their child, and they put their ‘seed’ if you will into said human being, and then that mortal produces with another mortal, and at-da! A demigod is born.

Pretty much, demigods from all pantheons exist, as long as a pantheon had stated that demigods exist in their myths, demigods from that pantheon will exist! However, most demigods in the irl demigod community are Greek demigods thus, a lot of resources don’t exist for non-Greek demigods since we just don’t know much about them.

There also exists a metaphysical barrier that prevents mortals from seeing the purest form of magic, this metaphysical barrier is often referred to as ‘the mist’, at a certain age demigods will start to see past the mist. And once you start to see past the mist… that means all forms of protection against whatever is beyond the mist had been removed.

“Is ‘Percy Jackson And The Olympians’ real?”

The answer to this is kind of a yes and no. Pretty much, Percy Jackson And The Olympians was the result of somebody whom had witnessed Percy Jackson’s journey and decided to pitch it as a fictional concept to a mortal, thus. pjo was born. A lot of pjo is fiction but a lot of it is also real, but, I do infact recommend reading it if you’re a Greek or Roman demigod or questioning being a demigod. As the book series contain lots of useful info about camp half-blood and camp Jupiter.

“About monsters”

Once you gain the ability to see past the mist, you will probably start to see these things called ‘monsters’ they are typically just Ancient Greek monsters, but you may also see monsters from other pantheons, they well… like to eat demigods, yes, you heard that right. Monsters feed off the flesh of demigods, and they tend to detect demigods via scent, you see, demigods carry a scent that only monsters, satyrs, and mythological beings with enhanced smell can sense. And this scent that is demigods carry will only get stronger if you find out if your a demigod, and if your a forbidden demigod… then your scent will be VERY strong.

When you see a monster, just pretend not to notice it and hope and pray it does not notice you, if it does notice you and start to come after you…. Then run, monsters are much more powerful than demigods, and its basically a death wish to try and fight a monster on your own. If you have no choice but to fight it, then try to weaken it and try to wait for an chance to escape.

So, it was the beginning of this year I think….? I am not entirely sure myself… I think it was the month after February, the core (aka Kurai, she is the previous host of the system, before I randomly thought she fused with me and I decided to declare myself the new host, I had just found out we never actually fused.) had just discovered the irl magical girl community, and she instantly wanted to join it. So, she was checking the irl magical girl tags every day, but every time she would open up the tags. She saw a reblog of a post, with a comment. The reblog was made by a person called ‘Sadie’, now, at first, Kurai ignored it, but eventually she decided to check out Sadie’s blog for reasons I can not remember, and Kurai ended up becoming a huugee fan of her, liking every post she would make, and she became a dedicated anon whom would send her asks every day telling Sadie how her day went, but, something also kind of shifted in her. She had a big feeling about the whole irl demigod thing, sure, at first she had her doubts about it. Because she didn’t believe in the Greek gods yet, but, she randomly decided the weird feeling she had was just her wanting to be a demigod, so, she began manifesting it. But eventually she felt like she HAD to be a Greek demigod, so she converted to Hellenism because of that, little did we know we already had our desires and that we were a demigod the entire time. So, since we were already a demigod… we ended up accidentally manifesting us finding out we were a demigod, so during a nicotine high we randomly had an epiphany that we were a irl Greek demigod, and we ended up telling Sadie everything, and she gave us some advice, well, the next day. We ended up feeling a huge connection to a deity (I won’t say whom my divine parent is, but feel free to guess !! You will get free cookies and snuggles if you guess correctly) and we ended up feeling like he was my divine parent, so Kurai told Sadie. And she replied back with: “oh, I kind of knew the entire time. I had visions and epiphanies about this.” Okay, that wasn’t her exact reply back, I can’t remember what it was. But it’s was something like that, and it was in a VERY serious tone. (also we wanted to note that my mortal dad told me lies about my divine parent so Kura thought he was a careless deity for a week or two before she did research on her own, so we would like to apologize for that.) and, Sadie said that we were in more danger then other demigods, which mind you, most demigods die before the age of 18. So, we ended up forming a pack together… ta-da !! The silent Styx. That was the name of the pact we ended up forming together.

Anyways, after that, I asked Sadie in DMs about the visions she had, and all I have to say is that I think I will be involved in a prophecy of some kind, I don’t know which. But the chances are up there, i can share what she told you, only if we’re already moots and I will share what she said, in DMs with you. She also had an epiphany of whom my divine parent was as soon as I told her I was a demigod, according to her.

And that’s about it !! This was rather lengthy, so I apologize for that !! I haven’t fully formed by then, and it was Kurai (the previous host and the core) whom discovered that we were a demigod, so that’s why I switched from ‘Kurai’ to ‘we’ to ‘I’ since I was fronting during some parts of this, since I was formed by the brain during all of this to deal with magic and stuff, but nowadays I am also a persecutor , depression holder , hpd holder , and host of the system !! Although, I have like 8 other alter roles (most of them being persecutor-related). Anyways, I hope this helps some of my fellow demigods out !
