Trying to make myself happy

And I can’t understand

Why my tears keep falling

When the song I’m listening to

Should have been able to lift my mood

Maybe you really were unhappy

I must’ve been so caught up in our love that I failed to notice

You seemed happy

The smile on your face when you saw me in the morning

And the sad look you had when I said goodbye

The way we sang at the top of our lungs on car rides

The jokes we made that only we would understand

The love we made that was so precious and secret

And the time we spent talking about where the future would take us

All of those plans involved eachother

We never left out us

It was always supposed to be us

But you were unhappy

Your version of unhappy must be distinctly different

Because I had absolutely no idea you felt that way

I believed my future was meant to be with you

I knew my future was meant to be with you

The feelings I felt

The tears I wept

The smiles I wore

Those were not fake

But you

Yours were

You claim you felt those same feelings

You claim you wept those same tears

You claim you wore those same smiles

But you were unhappy

Your emotions were never ending lies

Until the day you decided being unhappy

Was to much

But hurting me

Came so effortlessly

It was like wind through your hair

Like malignant waves crashing against the shore

Effortless.
