I was thinking about my last post and what it feels like to let my paintings go once completed. Being in the privileged position of being represented means I only get to spend matter of weeks at best with work before it’s sold on, meaning the journey ends very quickly once I’m finished up. It’s really great to know the work is so well received and it’s a real pleasure when on the odd occasion I receive a photo from a client showing me their new piece of art hanging in their homes and work spaces. It just makes it feel all the more worthwhile. So I thought why not be cheeky and ask if you’d be happy and willing to share a pic or two of the artwork in situ. They’d be gratefully received and I’d love to share the images on my story as I’m also building a portfolio (clients spaces) where they can be viewed permanently. I’ve said it many times before but I really do love these room shots! I rarely get to see my painting hung in clients homes or work spaces so once they leave the studio it’s often the end of the process for me but the journey still continues for the artwork. These editing tools give me an opportunity to present a vision of the paintings sat on a wall somewhere in a lovely looking home. This is the latest painting I’ve been busy working on. There’s still a lot to do as I’ve primarily focused on the light effects. Next stage is to darken in a few areas which will further enhance the light space by brining contrast. I want to bring down some of the brighter green space too by glazing over with a blend of turquoise and phthalo blue. The studio is literally full to bursting with paintings! I think I need to calm down or stop jumping back and forth between the work because it’s getting ridiculous. Months worth of nearly finished abstract pieces lining the walls, floors and anywhere I can tuck them away. I never really gave much thought to what it would be like carving a name for yourself in the art world. You start out just putting one foot in front of the other and hope for some form of recognition for the years spent developing your craft. It’s only when I stop to look back over the past decade or so, painting professionally, represented by some of the best names in the business, 50+ events under my belt that I realise what a wild and crazy ride it’s all been…and it still is. There’s so many amazingly creative souls out there that I feel incredibly fortunate to be in a position where I can do what I love every day, I get to exhibit my work in these amazing galleries, all whilst behind the scenes I’ve so many people helping support me on my journey. This month I’m busy working on a big abstract collection which I’m sure will keep me busy for at least the next four or five weeks. I’m aiming for eight pieces in total, four of which measure 120 x 120cm, the other for are larger at 150 x 120cm so lots of big paintings energising the studio. It’s a rarity!!! Due to huge demand from the galleries I’ve created another relatively small ish painting! That must be at least three little ones painted in the past 12 months! This piece measures 90 x 90 cm and was created in oils. Again attention was given to creating a kind of semi abstracted cosmic composition with lots of focus on light and shadow. I loved using the contrasting purple, blues and yellows… you can see the instant affect of the opposing colours even without the other effects adding to the drama. So I’m currently working away on this wild beauty. Got a little way to go yet, fingers and toes crossed I should have it wrapped up tomorrow. We’ll, there’s actually three underway in a similar palette, and that’s along side a couple of other other paintings I started last month but have yet to finish. As promised, here’s part two of my latest four piece collection. This is titled ‘Awaken the Heavens’. This painting was created in oils and measures 48 x 48”. As with the majority of my abstract artwork, the focus is predominantly on light and movement. Just about got this one finished up today. This painting is the second in collection of just two, this first of which I posted on the 27th January. I wanted to introduce a cooler element, so used a mix of blues and greens with some added light effects to keep that glow emanating from the heart of the painting which I think worked well. So I’ve been hiding this one away for a month or so, slowly deciding on what I want to achieve. Took a while to get my head round it. Inspired primarily by my early morning walks along our local coast line I wanted to capture some of the magic I witness each day. Watching the sun wash over the morning I always find my self in awe of our nearest star. Accompanied by my favourite playlists which just heightens the experience, I kind of lose of myself in thought and begin conjuring up ideas of alien worlds, somewhere in a far away part of the cosmos as yet unseen. So with these very ideas I decided to create a small collection of just two paintings, both 48 x 48” both in oils.
