my preliminary thoughts on the sims 4, not including regular gameplay (because i've been a nerd spending all my time in CAS and build mode and just generally awing at how different the game is, so i'll be posting again later or editing this post or expecting y'all to read my mind telepathically or something):

let me preface by saying the first time i installed the sims 3, which was the day of its official release, i played about a half hour and then i uninstalled it. i hated it. it grew on me over a long time, of course, since i have every EP and stuff pack and tons of store content, but it took awhile. it was maybe six months before i installed it again when there was enough custom content that the sims weren't hideous without it.

my initial reaction of ts4 is how much nicer it is to play. first of all it's just gorgeous, hands down. i do have high specs and a gaming laptop, but it's more the atmosphere than how good your computer's graphics card is or isn't. the sims are a lot easier to get original looks out of and in my opinion are more reminiscent of TS2 than the pudding faces of that sims 3 nightmare that still terrorizes us in our sleep. i can only imagine how incredible they'll be looking in a years time when this amazing community's talented awesome people bless us with even more incredible custom content.

second of all, the clothes that come with the base game are actually kinda stylish. i won't say i haven't downloaded as much CC as i can get my hands on, but i still find myself occasionally going back to the original versions of the meshes because the clothes are, shockingly enough, not hideous. the hairstyles could use some work to look less plastic but unfortunately i don't have the skill to make pretty hair.

navigating the game, from CAS, to changing the active household, to evicting someone from a house you wanna live in, to building a house of your own is so simple and easy to understand that your monkey's pet dog could do it in his sleep. i was never a builder before but TS4 is turning me into one by making it so easy and so accessible that all i wanna do is make the most badass house there ever was and ever will be BECAUSE I'M THE KING OF THE SIMMINYS!!!!!! the furniture choices could be a lot worse, as could the wallpapers/floors, and over time i'm sure our amazing CC creators will only make the choices that much better.

random things i love: that once you enable cheats you can shift + click your sim and edit them in CAS without needing a mod for that

the goddamn scenery, man

the ability to click and drag to move around instead of having to use arrow keys, FINALLY

the fact that there are tons of androgynous clothes in the girl category for children. haven't checked the boys yet so i'm hoping for the same

random things i give the finger to: not enough hairstyles, ambitions or traits. that's one area where it feels a little lacking in the fleshing out your sim department. because you know, hair is important.

yeah, the teens looking like adults are just as bad as i thought but maybe it'll make downloading clothes easier so everybody can share?

Whats the verdict on default eyes? (thats the only CC I use)
