To celebrate the end of the decade, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson decided to throw a masquerade ball for their friends. The party wasn't as grand as the balls in the books, of course, but that didn't mean it wasn't extraordinary. After all, it was not only the end of the decade, but also the beginning of a new century, although some individuals, like Dr. Wilson himself, claimed that only the year 1901 would mark the beginning of the 20th century. Such individuals, however, were mostly ignored. Everyone created their own outfits from whatever they had, bought cheaply, or borrowed from someone else. William and Hazel bravely showed up at the party, leaving the children in the care of elderly neighbors.
The masquerade was spectacular. There was time for conversation, games, and, of course, dancing, the latter of which was especially appreciated by the Rosewoods.
Finally, around midnight, Hazel and William decided to get some fresh air on one of the balconies. Snow slowly began to fall around them, but the couple didn't seem to mind.
“In a few months, it will be exactly ten years since I first thought that everything was better when you were with me,” William whispered tenderly to his wife.
“Ten years ago, I didn't expect that this decade could be as beautiful as it was.” She said, getting even closer to William. “And now? Now I know that as long as you are in my life, each decade will be equally extraordinary. So here's to the next one.”
With that, she kissed him. Somewhere downstairs, people were already cheerfully announcing the new year, but Hazel and William didn't hear them, celebrating the occasion in their own way.
Welcome to the 1900s! Can you believe it!?
