The Best Laid Plans
Fandom: Touken Ranbu Pairing: Yagen/Tonbokiri Wordcount: 2093 Genre: Fluff Rating: T, most for safety and some super light swearing Ao3 link or read under the cut
To say Tonbokiri was nervous was an understatement. Honestly, he probably didn’t have anything to worry about. He and Yagen had been dating for a while now. They practically lived together with how often one of them spent the night with the other, nevermind the fact that they had actually discussed Tonbokiri moving in with him and Atsushi at the end of Tonbokiri’s lease. Surely this was the next logical step and he had nothing to worry about… but he was still fretting about it. He wanted this to be perfect after all. The plan was simple. Yagen would come over and join him and his roommates for lunch, exchange some gifts… then Otegine and Nihongou would conveniently have to leave. Otegine was easy of course because he actually did have to leave to spend Christmas with his boyfriend… Nihongou was a little harder, considering his boyfriend was one of Yagen’s brothers… but thankfully after being told the plan, Hakata happily agreed to call with “spontaneous plans” to get Nihongou out without alerting Yagen that something was up. Then, once they were alone, Tonbokiri would pull out the ring he had custom made for Yagen and ask him to be his husband. It was simple. Straight forward. Nothing complicated to mess up. It should be fine, right? “Eh heheh… You ready?” Nihongou asked with a big grin on his face, leaning against the kitchen counter as Tonbokiri pulled a dish out of the oven. “I better get a text the moment he says yes!” “Well… it probably won’t be the moment he says yes, Nih.” Otegine laughed. “He is going to want to kiss him first!” “True, true! Fine. Kiss him stupid then text me!” Nihongou laughed and took a drink of the rather potent eggnog in his hand Tonbokiri gave a nervous chuckle, sitting the dish on the stove and closing the oven door. “Let’s get through lunch first… we don’t even know that he will-” “Shhhh. No.” Nihongou huffed at him. “He will . Don’t even start that shit.” “Nihongou is right. Yagen adores you. Of course he’s going to say yes.” “I suppose…” “Come on Tonbokiri! You are just nervous! How about a drink?” Tonbokiri couldn’t help the soft snort he let out when Nihongou happily lifted up his glass as he offered. “No… but thank you.” “Eh… More for me!” He shook his head, a smile on his face, then started to check over everything one more time. Yagen was going to be here soon, so this was his last chance to make sure everything was in place. Lunch was ready… The place was clean… Tree looked nice, despite Nihongou having drunkenly tripped over it yesterday night on his way to the kitchen and Otegine having to panic set it back up this morning… the ring was in- Suddenly the color drained from his face as he frantically felt the shirt pocket the ring was supposed to be in and then his pants pockets. “Uuuuh… You ok, Tonbokiri?” Otegine asked. “The ring…” Tonbokiri mumbled, hurried checking around the kitchen counters. “The ring is gone!” “What??” “Shit…” Nihongou sat his drink down. “Ok where did you have it last?” “In my pocket…” “Not helpful. Ok. Tonbokiri, check the kitchen. Otegine and I will check the living room.” And before he could get argument from either one, he grabbed Otegine by the arm and dragged him off. Tonbokiri checked everywhere . The counter, the drawers, the cabinets, the pantry… Even the fridge, freezer and microwave got checked… However, the ring was nowhere to be found. Defeated and growing more and more panicked with each ticking second, he hurried out to the living room. “Did you find… it…?” His words trailed… watching Nihongou, who was perched on a mildly disgruntled Otegine’s shoulder, checking the vent near the ceiling. “I don’t think it will be in there, Nihongou…” “Hey I’m being thorough!” He huffed. “But it’s not. Hey, Otegine! Move me over to the overhead light! Maybe it got flung up into the cover!” “Nng… You expect me to walk like this?? And why am I on the bottom??” “Quit your griping and move! This is important!” Otegine grumbled and slowly staggered his way over to the light, swaying and struggling with each unsteady step. “Geh… you are heavy… lay off the snacks next time!” “Not my fault Tonbokiri cooks! Now quit dancing I can’t see!” “Nihongou… Otegine… I don’t think-” He started to say, only to cut himself off and rush over when the two started to fall. Despite his efforts, they still ended up falling… on top of him. “Hnn… ow…” “Ffff… ow…” Nihongou groaned, laying there for a moment to try and get the room to stop moving. “You good, Tonbokiri, Gine?” “I’m ok…” Otegine groaned softly. “... You didn’t find it did you…?” “No… did you, Tonbokiri?” “No…” He sighed at the bottom of the pile, accepting his fate for the moment. “How much time til he gets here?” “What time is it?” Otegine pulled his phone out of his pocket. “Uuuh 12:30.” Tonbokiri let out a soft whine and tried to unbury himself from the roommate pile. “He should be here any minute! I-I don’t… get off Nihongou! I don’t know where else to look. I know I had it this morning after I got out of bed because I put it in my shirt pocket.” Nihongou grunted as he got pushed off into the floor. “I dunno… do you really need the ring though? I mean you could just ask him to marry you without it, yeah?” “I’m sure he would say yes no matter what.” Otegine offered. “Or if you do need it, we can always just help you find it later and you can do it for New Years! That way he won’t realize something is up with us running around everywhere!” “Heeey there's an idea. Besides, means you could start the year off with a bang!” “I…” He sighed and just put his head down on the floor with a defeated sigh. “I guess… Thank you for the help though. I just hope we find it…” “Sure we will! Just need more time and less panic!” After getting Tonbokiri to his feet, Nihongou and Otegine tried their best to cheer him up. After all, it would be hard enough to hide it from someone like Yagen anyway. It’d be impossible to keep him from asking questions if Tonbokiri was clearly upset. Thankfully, by the time Yagen got there for lunch… they were pretty sure they had him at least convincingly happy enough. Especially seeing as the moment Yagen walked in the door, Tonbokiri went running like an excited puppy as always. The gift exchange went over well. Nihongou had gotten each of them their favorite spirits (never mind that Tonbokiri hadn’t finished his bottle from last year). Otegine’s gifts were all things he knitted and each was really well done despite his insistence that he wasn’t any good at it. Tonbokiri’s gifts varied a bit more, a gift card to the liquor store for Nihongou, a new set of knitting needles for Otegine to encourage him to keep at it, and various items that Yagen had been mentioning that he wanted but hadn’t gotten around to buying. Yagen’s were all gift cards because he wasn’t really sure what to get any of them… but Tonbokiri got an extra thing, a really cute hoodie with bunny ears. Why? Because he thought it would be funny. At some point right before lunch though, the facade faltered. Otegine and Nihongou stuck bows to Tonbokiri’s head and jokingly told Yagen that they were going to give him to the man as a gift too… and a sadness crossed Tonbokiri’s face as he quickly got up to go to the kitchen. At first, Yagen let it slide, thinking maybe, strangely, he had been wrong about what he saw… but every so often as they ate, he would see it again, just for a moment… and finally he sighed and looked at his boyfriend. “What’s wrong?” “Huh?” Tonbokiri asked, looking up from his plate and internally starting to panic when he looked Yagen in the eyes. “Nothing.” Yagen hummed, a small smile crossing his face as he took another bite. “Ton… Not only are you a bad liar, but I can read you like a book. It’s ok if you don’t want to talk about it… I just wanted to know if I could help.” “Er… No. It’s nothing you can help with.” He admitted sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. “Just… something I had planned didn’t go well.” “Mm. Sorry to hear that. Tell me about it? Maybe I can help.” “No!” He half shouted, then immediately let out a nervous laugh. “No… it’s… fine. I know what I need to do to fix it. It’s alright.” After watching for a moment… Yagen decided to let it go for now, seeing as Tonbokiri really seemed to be trying to avoid the question. “If you are sure, Ton. I’m here to help if you need it though.” And he left it at that, putting another bite of the curry doria in his mouth… and suddenly winced. Tonbokiri made a soft noise of surprise and concern crossed his face. “Yagen?” Yagen sat there for a second before slowly reaching up to his mouth to pull whatever it was he had bitten down on out of his mouth, blinking at the item in his hand because of all the things he expected to find… a ring had definitely not been on the list. Tonbokiri, Otegine, and Nihongou all went wide eyed, staring at the ring in Yagen’s hand. “Uhhh…” Nihongou started, looking over to Otegine, who looked back at him… and then the two suddenly bolted for the door, tripping over each other in their hurry to leave the two alone. They ended up getting stuck in the door because they went through it at the same time, then fell on the ground after a struggle. Only then did they manage to actually make themselves scarce, shutting the door quickly behind him. Yagen snorted softly and cleared his throat before looking back at Tonbokiri, who was blushing like a mad man now. “Ton…” “I can explain!” “Is this what you had planned?” A soft whine escaped Tonbokiri’s throat and he ducked his head with a defeated sigh. “Yes…” “I see…” Yagen looked back at the ring in his hand. It was pretty simple. A black band with little round amethysts nestled down into a braided accent around the center and their initials and the date they got together on the inside of the band. A soft smile crossed his face. “It’s nice Ton…” “I… you like it..?” “I do, yes.” He said as he slipped it on his hand and admired it. “Question, will this make you Mr. Toushirou? Or me Dr. Muramasa?” Tonbokiri blinked at him, processing the question for almost too long… then he slowly lit up. “I- Yagen is that-?” “Yes.” He said simply. “It was always going to be yes, Tonbokiri.” Tonbokiri smiled so bright the sun itself seemed dull by comparison and got to his feet quickly, scooping Yagen up. He hugged him tightly, laughing right up until he stole his lips in an excited, almost clumsy kiss. Yagen squeaked when he was yanked up… but it soon melted into a cheerful, muffled laugh as he clung back to him, totally pretending that Tonbokiri didn’t almost miss his lips when he went to kiss him. When it broke, he chuckled softly, looking at his now fiance with a content smile… that then bled into a playful smirk. “As happy as I am… I do have one major issue now aside from the fact that biting down on that hurt…” “Heh… Sorry…” Tonbokiri said with a shy smile… then realized he said there was another issue. He adjusted the man in his arms to be able to cradle him and looked at him with worry. “What’s wrong??” When Tonbokiri walked right into his trap, his smirk grew and he reached into his pocket, pulling out a small black box. “You beat me to it.” Tonbokiri looked at the box and relief swept over him, starting to laugh as he leaned to press his forehead to Yagen’s. “Ah. Forgive me for the transgression?” He snorted softly and tilted his head to steal another kiss, lingering for several moments before he pulled back and readjusted his glasses. “I will consider it.”
And the Dragon Fell in Love With the Fox
Hello yes, I bring you a random oneshot that I literally just dumped words on a page and called it good. So. Enjoy! lol - Touken Ranbu - Ookurikara/Nakigitsune - 1.7K - Fluff - Story below the cut, but for those that prefer Ao3... link!
Ookurikara had always said he wasn’t there to get along. He wasn’t going to be friendly or make friends. The people around him were little more than those that fought the same battles and did the same job. At least… That’s what he would have everyone believe. In truth, he silently admired many of the men that fought at his side. Shokudaikiri obviously… but they had history. Same with Taikogane and Tsurumaru. Ichigo was another one… The man was not only a talented fighter, but also extremely kind and doting on his brothers. That same sentiment extended to Koustesu and Souza, who treated Sayo like nothing short of the most valuable and priceless treasure. Doudanuki, Yamabushi, and Tonbokiri… as insufferable as they could be during a workout, he respected their drive to get stronger. Even that irritating, overly-fussy Kasen had his merits, though out of anyone in the citadel, Ookurikara was the least likely to admit to that one. Especially considering how they couldn’t even be in the same room for more than five minutes without getting annoyed with each other. And yet…
With a heavy, annoyed sigh, Ookurikara stopped in front of the door. If he had any other choice, he would have taken it, but thanks to another one of Mutsunokami’s impulsive camera purchases, there wasn’t any way for him to just buy what he needed so he had to make it himself. The problem with that however… is he didn’t know how. Normally he would have gone to Shokudaikiri, but with him out on survey, if Ookurikara wanted any chance of these being good… Another soft grumble passed his lips as he finally reached up to knock on the door frame. “Yes?” A rather content, almost cheerful voice answered him. Considering he didn’t just come answer the door, he must have been writing. Ookurikara huffed, already starting to regret this. “Kasen.” The simple utterance was met with silence… then a moment later the door slid open, revealing a rather confused, and mildly concerned Kasen. “Ookurikara? Is something the matter?” He asked, understandably wary since this was not a normal occurrence. “Hmph…” Ookurikara looked away from him the moment the door opened. Kasen scowled at that. “Do you have business with me or have you come just to-” “I need your help.” “My… help…?” Kasen echoed in disbelief. “... Shokudaikiri is out on survey…” “Well, yes, but what does…” He trailed off as it started to click. “You want help in the kitchen?” Ookurikara still wasn’t looking at him but not only did he not actually answer, but somehow he managed to look away from him even more. It might have been frustrating if it wasn't for the fact that his eyes gave away how important this was. Finally, he just turned to walk off with a huff. “You going to help or not…?” “Yes! Yes, I’ll join you after I put away my brushes!” —
Ookurikara walked out of the kitchen with a soft sigh, trying to will away the headache he now had from listening to Kasen nitpick every little detail. Regardless of the throbbing in his head however, he accomplished what he needed. His eyes went to the box in his hand… a black and red box tied with a gold bow. Seemed a little dark for this sort of thing, just based on what he had heard Midare going on about when he had walked by the room belonging to the Awataguchi brothers… but Kasen said it would work because it fit his ‘dark and broody appearance’ and so it made it seem more personal and thoughtful gift… Honestly, Ookurikara had just wanted to give him the plate once they were done, but he didn’t want to listen to Kasen and his conniptions any more than he had to… and secretly he was thankful for the extra help making this work. Now the only thing left was to deliver them, which he thought would have been the easy part. Turns out, that might have been the hardest part of all of it. Especially when the intended recipient had earned a little more than just his respect… Nakigitsune.
Of all the men that he had come to tolerate and even respect, that one that stood out in his mind every time. He had managed to catch Ookurikara’s attention shortly after he had arrived and had not left his mind since. Typically a quiet man himself, softer spoken, shy almost, easy to be around… even if he was with Fox, who was definitely not any of that, and Ookurikara found that he didn’t hate it. He had asked him to spar on several occasions just as an excuse to be around him… and every time, no matter how the match went, Ookurikara would leave flustered and warm, even if it didn’t show on the outside. It was confusing, frustrating, terrifying… Even doing little more than simply existing, this man had worked his way into his heart and that’s why when he overheard Midare gushing about this holiday, Valentine’s Day, and the act of giving chocolates to show one’s affection, he felt compelled to try. He couldn’t keep this to himself forever… someone was bound to realize it sooner or later and tell him anyway, which seemed like more hassle than it was worth… Still. It was harder to do than he thought. Maybe showing would be easier than telling.
“Nakigitsune?” He called as he walked up and peeked into the open bedroom door. “Ah! Ookurikara-dono! What a surprise to see you here!” Fox chimed the moment he saw Ookurikara’s face, prompting Nakigitsune to look up from what he was doing. “Hello.” Nakigitsune greeted softly. Ookurikara immediately looked away, mostly to gather himself before he stepped closer and held out the box. “Here.” Nakigitsune blinked at him for a moment, reaching up to take it and looking at it for a moment before his gaze returned to the man in front of him. “Thank you.” “Oh? What is it, Nakigitsune? Open it! I want to see! It’s rare for Ookurikara-dono to give gifts.” “Hmm.” Nakigitsune hummed, eyes going back to the box in his hand. Fox was right of course, it was odd to see Ookurikara do anything like this and admittedly he was curious, but… “Ookurikara?” “What?”
“May I open it now?” Ookurikara started to answer and tell him that yes he could open it and try it, mostly because he wanted to see his reaction and hear if they turned out ok… but just as he went say so, the other door slid open and in came Atsushi, Midare, Gokotai, and Akita, all yammering on about something they were going to be doing with Nakigitsune. He let out a soft, frustrated growl and looked at the floor before turning away to leave. “Whatever. It’s yours.” Nakigitsune just nodded as he watched Ookurikara leave in a bit of a hurry, more than a little confused by the whole situation. Fox seemed just as confused and wasn’t nearly as quiet about it. “What a strange reaction!” “W-What is that, Nakigitsune?” Gokotai asked softly, pointing at the box with the hand he wasn’t currently holding a tiger in. “Ooooh is that from Ookurikara-san?” Midare half-squealed, gracefully flopping down next to him. “Are you going to open it??” “Can we watch?” Akita asked as he moved up next to his rather excited brother. Nakigitsune just nodded, curiosity starting to eat at him, sitting the box on the table to undo the ribbon… only to pause and tie it around Fox’s neck once he had it off. “Oh thank you, Nakigitsune!” “Mmm.” He hummed softly, a smile coming to his face behind his mask. His attention returned to the box on the table, studying it a moment longer before he finally took off the lid… There, neatly arranged were a collection of homemade milk chocolates, hand carved into the shape of playful little foxes. “Uwaaa! Those are so cute!” Gokotai chimed, eyes practically sparkling. “Hah! They look like you, Fox!” Atsushi laughed. “Wait wait wait! Hold on!” Midare flailed his arms excitedly. “Ookurikara gave you this?? Just now??” “Yes.” Midare squealed loud enough that all of the tigers jumped and stared at him. “Nakigitsune! You know what that means right?? It’s Valentine’s Day and you got chocolate. From Ookurikara. Aaaaaah!” That brought a blush to his face. He was there for Midare’s long winded explanation of this holiday earlier, he remembered exactly what that was supposed to mean. However, Ookurikara never seemed the type to participate in this kind of thing. Was it a mere coincidence? Was there another reason? “Nakigitsune! There is something else in the box!” When he looked more carefully, he realized Fox was right… at the bottom of the box, there was something wrapped in parchment paper and a note. He gently took them out, careful to disturb the chocolates as little as possible. The note simply said, in what was undoubtedly Ookurikara’s semi-messy handwriting, happy valentines day and in the parchment… was another chocolate. However written on the inside, in what looked more like Kasen’s elegant script, it said ‘Made with Fox-safe ingredients’. “Oh…” “You can’t even deny it now! He even said happy valentines day!!” Midare giggled, leaning over to look closer. “What’s that in the parchment?” “It’s for Fox.” He said simply, offering it out to the beast on his shoulder with a smile. “He made a chocolate for Fox?” Atsushi blurted out. “I-Its Fox safe…?” “Ooooh my god. That’s Kasen’s handwriting on the parchment… Ookurikara went to Kasen of all people for this… Naki! What??” “Nakigitsune is a sword worthy of such affection!” Fox chimed in between bites. “Oh I agree, but Ookurikara??” Nakigitsune’s cheeks grew pink again, but the smile never left his face as he got to his feet, collecting his box and heading for the door. He knew at least three of his brothers were going to be confused by his abrupt departure, but when he heard the fourth yell after him to not make a huge mess in the kitchen this close to dinner… Well. They would figure it out… As would the rest of the citadel soon enough…
All That Matters is You
Hi yes. I'm back with my @badthingshappenbingo bullshit :D Today's victim is Touken Ranbu's Taikogane and Fudou! - 1.6k words - Paralysis - T - Touken Ranbu - Taikogane Sadamune x Fudou Yukimitsu, SadaFudou - Story below the cut but for those that prefer Ao3... :D
People had always questioned Taikogane Sadamune's relationship with Fudou Yukimitsu. Why would Taikogane, a sociable, lovable, star college athlete with dreams of going pro, choose to be with a drunk with no real drive or initiative that never even finished high school? It was a bad match! He could have anyone he wanted! This could ruin his career! Despite the constant judgment and back handed concern, though... Taikogane never seemed phased.
After all, they didn't know Fudou. Not like he did. Did his boyfriend drink? Yes. Quite a bit because of his home life and depression… but since they met, Fufou had started cutting back. Now he drank barely a fraction of what he used to and was still improving. Did his boyfriend drop out of high school and run away from home? Again, yes, but not only did doing so get him out of a bad situation, but it saved his life. And now, Fudou was even working on getting his GED with Taikogane's help and man was he beyond proud! There was so much going on beneath the surface that people didn't see. He was Fudou's stability, and Fudou was his grounding. Taikogane wouldn't have had it any other way. Not only that… but Fudou actually cared about him, not what he could be… That much became evident after his accident. Driving home late one night from a game, it was raining pretty heavily. Taikogane was careful of course, he always was when he got on his motorcycle… All the care in the world though wouldn’t have stopped a car in the oncoming lane from going too fast, hitting that slick spot in the road and veering into his lane. Taikogane swerved and jumped from his bike in a desperate attempt to stop the inevitable and that quick thinking saved his life… but the selfish actions of the other driver still cost him dearly. Paralyzed. From the waist down. In an instant his whole life had changed. He couldn’t play anymore. His chance of going pro was gone. They told him it wouldn’t be impossible for him to learn to walk again, but it was going to take a lot of time, energy, and money, and even then it wasn’t a guarantee. Still, Taikogane put on a brave face, smiling as he changed literally everything about his life and his goals and watching everyone that had all seemed so concerned before turn their backs on him since he couldn’t be what they wanted any more… Well… All except one person. “Eh… Eh… AH ha!” Taikogane laughed softly as he managed to get the door opened and get inside without getting stuck or smashing his fingers or any other variation of door vs wheelchair struggles he had faced trying to get into his apartment. “Look out! I am becoming way too powerful! I can get into my own apartment without incident!” Fudou came out of the kitchen, a small smile of amusement on his face. “Next you will take over the world, right?” “Heeeey, that’s an idea! Think they have a major for that?” “Politics?” “... Eh. Don’t think I’d do well in politics.” Fudou looked confused by that, obvious in the way his brows knitted together. “Why?” “I lost my legs, babe! Not my brains!” Fudou audibly snorted, bringing his hand immediately to his face to hide the fact that he had managed to spit on himself laughing at that. “Yeah… You are too smart to be a politician…” “Damn right.” Taikogane laughed, though it was half hearted, looking down at his lap with a sad smile. “Hah… maybe I should just drop out at this point and try to go back when I get things figured out. If I even do…” “You will.” “Will I?” Now his voice was starting to crack, despite the effort he put in to trying to stay strong and face it with a smile. “Yeah! You always do.” Taikogane looked up after wiping away the tears that had started to form in his eyes, the smile coming back to his face seeing the confidence in Fudou’s eyes. “Thanks, babe…” “It’s ok to not have a plan right now, it doesn’t mean you’ll be stumbling in the dark forever.” Fudou hummed, a grin coming to his face as he slowly walked backwards. “Sound familiar?” “You know…” Taikogane laughed, following after him. “Does sound kinda familiar! Almost like something I said to you. Using my own words against me. Rude.” Fudou just shrugged in response to that, clearly not even a little sorry. However, then his attitude shifted, taking on a sheepish, shy smile as he stopped in the doorway to the kitchen. “I uh… I made dinner!” “Is that what I’m smelling? No wonder my belly is trying to chew on my backbone!” “Yeah don’t get too excited just yet…” He chuckled, stepping out of the door so Taikogane could get through. There, laid out on their small dining table in the corner of their tiny apartment kitchen, was a dinner that one might associate with date night. Steak, potatoes, mushrooms, and even a little side salad, served with what looked like a glass of white wine… It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was obvious he tried his best. Taikogane just stared at it for a few moments with a sort of awestruck look… then, after managing to pick his jaw up off his lap, he looked at Fudou with a grin. “Holy shit… You really went all out! What’s the occasion?” “Uuuh well… there’s a few reasons but… mostly I just.. Thought you deserved it.” Taikogane quickly pulled his boyfriend down into a hug, kissing all over his face after he had him trapped and laughing at the noises the other man made, then let him go to park himself in front of his plate. “Man this looks so good!! Though I gotta say. Surprised by the choice of drink! Wine isn’t usually your thing!” “Huh? Oh. Yeah. It’s still not.” Fudou admitted as he sat down taking a sip of his glass. “Theeeeen why are you drinking it, silly?” “I’m not.” “Huh?” Taikogane looked again at the glasses, realizing then that the liquid in Fudou’s didn’t have the same straw colored tint to it that his did. In fact… it was clear. “Wait… is that water? Why…?” “Yeah… I just put it in the fancy glass to match you…” “No no, I got that… I’m just…” “Surprised? Yeah… Me too…” Fudou laughed softly, looking over to Taikogane with a gentle smile. “Holy shit, babe! That’s huge!” Taikogane laughed, proud of his boyfriend for resisting the urge to drink. “You have the temptation right there and you said nuh uh! No way!” Fudou snorted at the antics, though the praise did make his ears pink. “Thanks. Never thought I’d get to this point, you know? But you didn’t give up on me… and now, Its… It’s been three months. I’m… I-I’m three months completely sober.” “Wh?? Three months?? Why didn’t I-” Suddenly, the realization hit Taikogane like a ton of bricks. Three months… “Y-You haven’t drank since my accident…” “Nope. Not a drop.” “Wh…. I mean… Don’t get me wrong. That’s huge! And I’m so stupid proud of you but I… What changed…?” “Because you never gave up on me…” He admitted, looking the other man in the eyes as he said it with conviction. “You never gave up on me. No matter how bad I got, how much I wanted to give in and let the demons win, how much I struggled… You never gave up on me and you never let me give up on myself. Then you got hurt… and I was so, so scared… but I wanted to help you get through this. I wanted to be for you the person that you were for me… and I knew I couldn’t do that if I was still looking for stress relief at the bottom of a bottle. So… I made a promise to myself and to you that I was done… for good this time.” “F-Fudou…” Taikogane stammered, tears welling up in his eyes. “Honestly… I thought I’d struggle with it more than I did…” He chuckled, looking down at the table. “I mean, yeah… It was hard at times but… I guess when it was for you it just… yeah. Just another way you saved my life I guess.” Taikogane didn’t know what to say… and even if he did, he wasn’t real sure it would come out in anything coherent. Instead he just sniffled and flashed his boyfriend a big, bright smile, ignoring the tears that finally broke free and escaped down his face. “Hey don’t cry on the food… I was a little heavy on the salt as is…” He let out the most unattractive snort, grabbing his napkin to clean off his face before picking up his glass. “Then a toast. To the most amazing man I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting… Three months sober and still fighting.” Fudou blushed bright red, but smiled and raised his glass. “And to the man that never gives up, even in the face of impossible odds…” Taikogane clinked his glass gently to the other man’s and took a drink, returning to his mean with lively conversation and a warm smile. People always questioned Taikogane’s relationship with his boyfriend, feigning concern for him and his well being… but they all turned their back on him. Fudou was the only one that cared enough to stay by his side. So even if people didn’t understand, that was ok. They didn’t have to understand. It was what made him happy… and at the end of the day? That’s all that really mattered.

The Magic of Baking
My piece for the touken Ranbu Secret Santa on twitter! Hope ou enjoy and happy holidays! - Touken Ranbu - ShokuHeshi - 2k - Story below the cut but for those that prefer Ao3, here’s the link
A shiver ran down Hasebe’s spine as he stepped out of his room, clinging a little tighter to his coat. It was… colder than he liked it to be, which had delayed his getting up in the first place, and he was sorely tempted to turn around and go right back to the warmth of his bed. Alas, as much as the master really wished he would take a day off, he couldn't simply lounge about while there were things to be done.
He walked his way around the citadel, making sure everything was in order and trying to warm himself up… when the smell of sweetness and warmth hit his nose. At first he was confused… Even with him having gotten up late, no one else was usually up at this time except maybe Hachisuka or Shokudaikiri…
Shokudaikiri…
That had to be it. The smell had to be coming from the kitchen. No one else in the whole citadel could make something that’s scent could cut through even this cold, thin air. Especially not something that warm and inviting. Curious, he made his way to the kitchen, peeking in the door first to see if he was right, then quickly hurrying into the warm room with a huff. As his mind and body started to defrost somewhat, he looked around and was greeted by the sight of fresh baked cookies in various shapes, sizes, and flavors, already mixed dough awaiting the oven, ingredients sitting ready for more dough to be made… And a rather cheerful Shokudaikiri, apron covered in flour, chocolate and icing, humming softly as he moved away from the oven and to the next tray to start dishing dough onto it. Hasebe tried not to stare, but he found it difficult not to. Not only because of the sheer amount of cookies he saw and clear there was more coming… but also just because he always enjoyed watching Shokudaikiri as he cooked. The man always looked so happy, at peace as he flitted about the kitchen with the world’s warmest smile on his face… Honestly, Hasebe was sure that that smile alone was warm enough to combat even this frigid winter day… “Good morning, Hasebe. Cold morning, isn’t it?” Hasebe jumped a little, yanked out of his reverie by Shokudaikiri’s voice, who had apparently noticed that he wasn’t alone anymore. He gave a soft huff, moving further in the door and further into the kitchen so he could get a little warmer, then turned his gaze back to Shokudaikiri. “Yes. I can’t say that I’m a fan…” Shokudaikiri chuckled at that, finishing up the tray he was preparing for the oven and turning that impossibly bright smile toward Hasebe. “Well, you are welcome to keep me company, if you like. It will be warm in here for quite a while yet.” “I see…” Hasebe looked around again, then stepped close to look at the cookies that were already done. “And what exactly are you doing?” “Baking cookies.” The look on Hasebe’s face had to be amusing because it caused Shokudaikiri to start laughing again. And while Hasebe certainly didn’t mind the lovely sound of that laugh… “You have been hanging around Tsurumaru too much… but allow me to reword the question. Why are you up so early baking cookies?” “This is the Saniwa’s favorite time of the year…” He mused, going back over to wash the now empty mixing bowl and wooden spoon. “So, Tonbokiri, Iwatooshi, and Taroutachi are going to hang lights today and I decided to make cookies. However, I wanted to make sure there was enough for everyone and plenty of variety. We wanted to set up some sort of gift exchange as well, but… I don’t think the budget will allow for that. Not for everyone. Not unless we did something more akin to secret santa.” Hasebe looked over the cookies again and his brows knitted together. With the amount of cookies already prepared, he had to have been up well before sunrise… “That might be more plausible… Shokudaikiri, this seems like a large task for one person…” “It is. And it will take me a while.” he admitted softly, grabbing a towel to dry his now clean bowl and spoon so he could start on the next batch. “Would you allow me to help?” The question caused Shokudaikiri to pause and look over, surprise and what almost looked like hopefulness dancing in his one good eye. Hasebe sighed and looked away in order to be able to think clearly, already feeling flustered by receiving such a look. “I am not as skilled as you in the kitchen and you will have to teach me… but you’ve proven to have the patience for it before.” “You are an easy student, Hasebe.” Shokudaikiri chimed, features softening a little more somehow. “But if you want to help, I won’t turn you away!” Hasebe smiled, stripping off the heavy coat so he could put on an apron. For a brief moment, the cold crept up on him again now that his winter coat was off… but the moment he looked even mildly uncomfortable, Shokudaikiri pulled him closer to the oven. A faint blush crept across his cheeks that thankfully his companion didn’t seem to notice. Never mind the fact that having the man’s hands on him made his heart race… but just the fact that he was so acutely aware of his discomfort and adjusted the work space to accommodate for that? How was he supposed to react? Now was not the time for this little crush of his to be playing up! They had work to do! Quickly, he cleared his throat and nodded. “Alright. Let’s get to work.” Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. Right off the bat, as Shokudaikiri was coaching him on the proper measurements, he stood far too close, talking so softly in his ears that Hasebe could hardly concentrate on what was being said. Then when he started mixing, the man actually reached around and guided his hands to show him the most effective way to do it without overmixing. Hasebe thought his heart was going to hammer it’s way out of his chest. Dishing things out wasn’t any better. Not only did he have to find anything else to stare at as Shokudaikiri bent down to take a batch out of the oven, but then when he managed to keep all the globs of dough all relatively close to the same size, Shokudaikiri praised him with excitement and pride in his gaze. And yet… Through all of this he managed to maintain a calm and attentive exterior. Right until he put his cookies in the oven and turned to face Shokudaikiri.
“Well done, Hasebe! I’m eager to see how they turn out!” Shokudaikiri praised again, beaming at him like he had done the best thing in the world. “I… Yes. Thank you. I’m sure with your fine guidance the-Hm??” He had started to play it off as if that hadn’t been a major test of his willpower… only to blush brightly when the other man stepped closer, too close, and reached up to wipe something from his face. “E-Eh??” “You had flour on your face.” Shokudaikiri explained solely, brows pinching in concern a moment later when he noticed how flushed Hasebe looked. “Are you alright, Hasebe…? Your face is flushed.” “Y-Yes. I’m fine… just…” The rest of the words came out an uncharacteristic, mumbled mess and only made the blushing worse as he ducked his head.
At first, Shokudaikiri didn’t seem convinced, wondering if perhaps Hasebe was getting sick. It was quite cold out and the man had a tendency to overwork himself horridly. However, when Hasebe mumbled, he realized this had to be something else entirely. With a soft hum, he stepped back, an apologetic smile on his face. “Apologies. I must be making you uncomfortable.” “No!” Hasebe blurted out, immediately looking rather sheepish. “You… No. You have done nothing to make me uncomfortable. No need to apologize.” The still startled Shokudaikiri just blinked at him with confusion. Hasebe sighed. He should have accounted for this… “I’m just… flustered.” “Flustered?” Shokudaikiri echoed… Then he just blushed himself and gave Hasebe a smile. “I suppose Tsurumaru told you…” “What? What does Tsurumaru have to do with this?” Curious though he was, he quickly dismissed it and shook his head with a defeated sigh. There was no real way out of this now he supposed. “You have been incredibly close to me and, while I enjoy it, it’s hard to get anything at all done when you do that. I cannot think clearly around you. I know it is inappropriate and unwarranted but… it seems matters of the heart care little for logic and duty.” Shokudaikiri blinked… then again… before he started laughing. The already embarrassed Hasebe took this as a rather personal slight and huffed at him. “Don’t laugh at me! Why are you laughing?? I am admitting something very personal and serious to you! It’s no laughing matter!” “No… No it’s not.” Shokudaikiri chuckled, stepping close again and trying to reign himself back in. “However, I am relieved. Here I was thinking Tsurumaru had ratted me out on my feelings and my proximity had made you uncomfortable… but it seems that’s not the case.” “Your… feelings…?” “Yes. My feelings…” He flashed that soft smile of his again before leaning in to steal Hasebe’s lips with the most gentle, breathtaking kiss. Hasebe tensed for a brief second, then practically melted. His grip on the counter behind him tightened, resisting the urge to latch on to this man and never let go. The kiss was far too brief for his liking and when Shokudaikiri pulled away, Hasebe gave chase, which didn’t help the blush once he realized. “I-I… This is… This is not appropriate for the kitchen…” Once again, that rich chuckle filled the air, but this time… Shokudaikiri didn’t step back. “Do you want me to stop then, Hasebe? Just ask and I will step away and leave you be.” “U-Um… Cookies?” “They still have about five minutes.” “... We should be vigilant and not burn them! That would ruin it for Master and everyone else! No one likes burnt cookies!” Shokudaikiri smiled as he gently pulled Hasebe away from the counter and into his arms, having still not actually heard a no. “Yes, yes. I promise you I will not let them burn. Just… allow me this for a few more moments. I’ve wished for it for too long...” Hasebe felt his breath hitch at that admission, chest clenching and stomach fluttering with the full force of a thousand butterflies. Slowly he brought his arms up, wrapping them around Shokudaikiri’s waist and hiding his face in his chest. After so long of wondering what he was going to do about these feelings, how he was going to tell him, worrying what he would do if he was rejected… It felt as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. To just be able to stand here in his arms, unafraid and unashamed… It was the best gift he could have ever asked for. Slowly he lifted his head to look at Shokudaikiri, a smile on his face now to match the one he was being given… one that grew brighter when Shokudaikiri placed another kiss on his forehead… Only to suddenly have the moment ruined by a loud gasp. Hasebe and Shokudaikiri both jumped and turned to look at the door to find Mutsunokami and Tsurumaru peeking in the door, both surprised and starry eyed at the sight they saw. Shokudaikiri just blushed and huffed out a shy laugh… Hasebe on the other hand… “Really?? Spying on other people?? The two of you should be ashamed!” He began to lecture. “Uh oh… Lecture time…” Mutsunokami muttered, looking at Tsurumaru. “Eeeeh not the kind of surprise I was looking for…” Tsurumaru half whined, then lit up and looked at his partner in crime. “Run!” When the two of them took off running, Hasebe gasped and took off after them. “Hey! Get back here! I’M NOT DONE WITH YOU!” “Hasebe, your-” Shokudaikiri tried to catch him, sighing softly when he didn’t hear and disappeared in pursuit of the troublemakers, “-coat…” He snorted softly to himself, shaking his head as he turned to retrieve the cookies from the oven. “Ah well. Udon for lunch it is!”

Oops more angst. Another fill for @badthingshappenbingo. More Touken Ranbu but this time in the flavor of Iwatooshi/Imanotsurugi
- T - 1.5k - prompt: Bloodstained Clothes - Story under the cut, but for those that prefer Ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/34710835
Battle was nothing new for them at this point. They had all gained experience, gotten stronger… but they weren’t the only ones. The stronger they got, the stronger the History Retrograde Army got to compensate… and this time…
This time they were pulling out all the stops.
Imanotsurugi stared down an enemy naginata, panting and holding a wound on his sword arm to keep it from bleeding too much. He had finally dispatched the tantou that was with it… but one lucky hit had landed him in a tough spot. Now his movements were slowed and sluggish and he couldn’t swing his blade at its full strength, but he wasn’t going down without a fight. He let out a shout and charged forward, dodging the swing of the large polearm and jumping at his foe… only to be caught on a back swing and thrown into a nearby tree with a sharp cry. Dazed, he struggled to get back to his feet, whimpering in frustration and pain when his legs wouldn't support his weight nor the weight of the impending doom stalking toward him…
Only that killing blow never came.
Instead there was a shout, followed by the sound of broken wood, then a groan as the enemy dissipated into nothing. Imanotsurugi lifted his head to see what had happened, only to be greeted by a flash of sharp teeth and a pair of concerned orange eyes. “I… Iwatooshi?”
“Stay still.” He said gently, kneeling down with one hand still on his naginata as he checked over the wounded tantou.
“What about the others?”
“There’s only one guy left and Yamabushi-” He paused to look over his shoulder when he heard a roar… then that very familiar laugh. He glanced back at Imanotsurugi with a grin. “I think he got it.” Iwatooshi stripped off the top layer of his outfit, tearing the purple cloth into thick strips and bandaging Imanotsurugi to the best of his abilities. He was no Yagen for sure, but it was definitely better than nothing. “Gahahahaha! There! Now we can-”
“Archers!”
Imanotsurugi’s eyes squeezed closed, knowing he had no chance to get away… but again, nothing happened. As the sound of arrows faded and the familiar sound of metal on metal rang out through the air, Imanotsurugi slowly opened his eyes. He was ok.... or rather, he was no more damaged than before, thanks to Iwatooshi, who had pulled him in at the last second after assessing his injuries. He took a slow shaky exhale and nodded to signal he was ok, thinking that the fiery naginata would need to help fend off the second wave of enemies… but to his surprise, Iwatooshi didn't let go.
"Iwatooshi?"
Iwatooshi gave off a weak, pained groan, grip slipping and shoulders slumping slightly.
No...
"Iwatooshi… Are you ok?" When he received no real response, Imanotsurugi scrambled to pull free of the naginata's fading grip to check on him. To his horror, Iwatooshi was still on his knees with his hand on his weapon, back riddled with arrows and white clothes stained red. "IWATOOSHI!!" Tears started to fill his eyes when the man still didn’t respond. He grabbed him by the collar, choking back a sob. “Come on, Iwatooshi! Open your eyes!! PLEASE!” No matter how much he begged or cried, the man never stirred, leaving only ragged breaths to signal that he was not yet gone. However, with each breath growing ever shallower, Imanotsurugi had to do something. “Captain Kiyomitsu!!” He didn’t wait for a response, grabbing Iwatooshi’s hand and forcing his transport device into his palm. He glanced up only after he had his as well, making sure Kashuu had heard him. “Forgive me for this... But I’m taking Iwatooshi home!” And before he could be told no, he hit the button on both devices, whisking he and the injured naginata back to the citadel.

As the Saniwa’s door closed in his face, Kashuu sighed. The end of that fight had gotten tough, especially being down two people, but thankfully they had pulled through without losing any one. At least… He hoped they didn’t lose anyone… The way Iwatooshi looked when Imanotsurugi bailed looked bad...
“Kashuu?”
He jumped at the new voice, quickly turning to find Hasebe standing just at the top of the stairs. “Hasebe…”
“Is your report finished?”
“Yeah, it….” Kashuu trailed off, eyes shifting back to the door he had just left then to the floor. “Yeah.”
“Did it not go well?”
“It… went better than I thought, but worse than I hoped.” A soft sigh passed his lips, and he looked up with a bit of a tired smile. “Come on. I’ll tell you while I find Imanotsurugi…” When Hasebe nodded his acknowledgement, Kashuu stepped around him and headed down the stairs. “How much do you know?”
“Only that Imanotsurugi came back before the rest of you with Iwatooshi, who was not in a good way.”
“Well, then this won’t take long. After we cleared the area... we suddenly got hit with a second wave of enemies, starting with a barrage of arrows. Imanotsurugi had been injured, that much I knew. And I knew Iwatooshi went to his aide… but I… When that second wave hit it was chaos. I didn’t see what happened to Iwatooshi. But at some point, Imanotsurugi yelled to me that he was going back with Iwatooshi and then bailed before I could answer. I was only able to look back as they were disappearing.”
“Imanotsurugi left the team behind without order…”
“Yeah… but in a case like that?” Kashuu stated, a sense of fierce protectiveness lighting his eyes as he peeked into the kitchen. “I would have done the same thing.”
“Mm... “ Hasebe chose not to comment on it, seeing that look and realizing this was not the time for a lecture on ethics. “So what did the Saniwa have to say?”
“Master was understanding. They wanted to let it go… but Konnosuke insisted some sort of punishment needed to be issued, since it was basically done without my knowledge and that could have jeopardized the rest of the team.” He paused for a moment to ask Gokotai if he had seen Imanotsurugi. He didn’t and it brought a frown to Kashuu's face… but he thanked Gokotai anyway and carried on. “So… Imanotsurugi will not be dispatched again for six weeks, and during that time, he is permanently assigned stable duty.”
Hasebe made a face. “Hmm… could have been worse I suppose…”
“Like I said. Better than I thought.”
“I see… If I see Imanotsurugi, I will send him to you. Make sure you get some rest as well… You look like you need it.”
“Gee thanks.” Kashuu laughed softly, bidding him farewell and walking to the repair board, checking to see if Imanotsurugi was being repaired too… but found that it was only Iwatooshi… and that Iwatooshi would be there for a long time still. “Wow… He really was in a bad way… But hey… At least he’s alive...”
Oh...
Suddenly, he realized where Imanotsurugi probably was, hurrying off down the hall, stopping only once he reached the room Iwatooshi shared with Imanotsurugi. He huffed, catching his breath for a second, then slid the door open to peek inside. Sure enough, he found the tantou in question… but the sight caused his heart to wrench. Imanotsurugi was on the floor, back to the door, curled up as tightly as he could underneath what looked like the bloodstained remains of Iwatooshi’s battle garb. Kashuu had to take a breath, feeling like he had just been run through the gut, before he finally cleared his throat to speak. “Imanotsurugi…?”
“Yes?” He answered softly, not moving.
“I…” Kashuu trailed off. He needed to pass along the Saniwa’s message… but the words died in his throat. He couldn’t bring himself to do it. Not right now. Instead he just shook his head and looked away. “Have you been to repairs? Or at least seen Yagen?”
“No…”
“Are you going to?” Kashuu waited for an answer… and when he didn’t get one, he sighed. “If I bring Yagen here, will you let him look at you? I don’t want Iwatooshi coming after me when he is done with repairs and you haven’t been taken care of.”
That got a rather unattractive snort out of Imanotsurugi as he turned to look over his shoulder, eyes red and puffy and a sad smile on his face. “He would…”
“I know. And since I’ll have just gotten my nails repainted, I don’t really want to be chased around the citadel with a rake… or deal with the resulting lecture we’ll get from Hasebe.”
Imanotsurugi snickered softly and slowly dragged himself to a sitting position, adjusting the tattered, stained clothes that lay over top of him so that he was wearing at least the hood properly. “Yeah… so Iwatooshi won’t worry... Go get Yagen…” Kashuu gave him a nod, grinning as he got up to head out the door. “You got it.”
Who You Are
Hi yes. It be fic time. This time for Touken Ranbu aaaand for my @badthingshappenbingo! - T - 3k - Nagasone/Hachisuka - Prompt, Thrown From a Horse Enjoy!
Story under the cut, but for those that prefer it... Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/34682113
Hachisuka despised Nagasone. He was a fake! A forgery! Nothing about him would ever measure up to a real Kotetsu…
So why then did time slow so dramatically as Hachisuka watched Matsukaze, the horse the fake rode into battle, rear, throwing his rider from his back before collapsing himself under a relentless barrage of arrows and advancing enemies? Why did his gut wrench so hard when he couldn’t see the other man get back to his feet?
Why then did he immediately steer Konibari off his path and toward where he saw Nagasone fall?
He ran the horse as hard it would go, panic rising in his chest as he raced the enemy to the fallen sword warrior. Mustunokami would have to find someone else to irritate if Nagasone broke, he told himself, rationalizing his actions as a way to prevent future annoyances… That had to be why he was doing this. No… that wasn’t right... Maybe it was just that he couldn’t stand the thought of everyone, the Saniwa included, being upset over the loss of a forgery… but that didn’t feel true either. Perhaps, the fact that Urashima would be undoubtedly crushed if something happened to Nagasone and he would do anything for his little brother. However, this feeling went beyond even that…
and he was out of time to figure it out.
Hachisuka let out a loud shout as he cleaved through one of the enemy tantous, jumping from Konibari’s back to take out the approaching wakizashi with it. He quickly righted himself, placing himself between the horse and the remaining enemies. “Are you still alive back there, fake?”
No response.
Hachisuka gritted his teeth and started to call out again, only to be cut short by one of his opponents lunging for him. He growled softly, easily parrying the attack and taking it out in one quick riposte. “Fake! I am talking to you!”
Still nothing…
Worry started to set in. Was he too late? Was he defending nothing but a broken blade at this point? Again his stomach twisted and he chanced a glance to see the damage… but the moment he looked back, he got broadsided, knocking him to the ground. He quickly scrambled back to his feet, wincing at the fresh wound that had pierced his armor and into his side. The enemy lunged again, this time getting blocked and kicked away, but a second enemy dove in for an attack before he could recover, breaking off more of that shimmering gold plating and staggering Hachisuka. "Dammit…” He wheezed softly, dragging himself back into a defensive stance. “Nagasone!” “..nn… Ha...suka…?”
Hachisuka's eyes went wide. Nagasone was alive… but it sounded like he was in a bad way. He had to get them both out of here… but he was injured and surrounded. The battle wasn’t going in his favor and the outlook was bleak… but after a soft, wheezy gasp from behind him, he huffed and reached up to his collar. “No matter how strong the enemy is… We can still overturn this situation!” He growled, ripping what remained of the brilliant gold armor off and taking up a much more aggressive stance. “I'll show you a genuine's strength now!” His shouts were met with a dark hiss from his enemy as they all charged him again…
And one by one, they all fell to the fury of his blade.
When the last foe disappeared, Hachisuka took a slow ragged breath in an attempt to regulate his breathing before sheathing his sword and turning around. "Naga… Nagasone!?"
"H...hnn… here…"
Hachisuka's gaze trailed down to the body of the fallen war horse then up to a familiar mop of black and yellow hair struggling underneath it. "Nagasone!" He scrambled closer, whimpering some from his own injuries as he pulled the beast off of the other man and ran over to check on him. "Can you walk?"
"Not… not sure…"
Hachisuka glanced him over, hoping perhaps his injuries were minor enough to get him on his feet… but when he saw the amount of blood and broken arrows, as well as the odd way his leg was twisted... It wasn't promising,, but hopefully it wasn't as bad as it looked. He was sure he couldn't carry the larger man full weight, so if there was any way Nagasone could support himself even just a little… Hachisuka gave a bit of a huff and offered out his hand. "Come. To your feet. We need to find Kiyomitsu."
Nagasone looked at the hand, then up to Hachisuka. The look of weak confusion on his face had to be quite pitiful, considering Hachisuka looked away from him. "I will slow you down. Go without me."
"Hmph. It wasn't a choice, Nagasone. We are going."
Confusion once again swept over Nagasone's features, almost covering up the way his eyes had dulled from the pain and blood loss. Honestly he expected Hachisuka to be happy about this… this only proved his point after all...
"Oh for the love of…" Hachisuka growled and reached down, using what remained of the adrenaline from his harrowing fight to grab Nagasone by the arm and practically yank him up. "Lean on me if you must, but I will need you to help in any way you can. I… I cannot carry you alone."
For Hachisuka to admit that out loud… Maybe Nagasone was already broken. Maybe he had died and this was just some post mortem dream where Hachisuka didn't hate every fiber of his being and they actually got along.
"Did you hear me?"
"Yes…"
"It's certainly considered polite to at least acknowledge someone when they speak to you…"
Nagasone couldn't help but snort softly, as much as it hurt to do so. That was the Hachisuka he knew, so maybe he was alive after all. "Sorry."
"Hmph… Well, I'll forgive it this time due to the blood loss likely causing such forgetfulness."
"You… you're probably right..." He groaned, pushing through the pain as they began to move forward. "Thanks…"
"Thank me later, fake." Despite the typically derogatory nickname, the tone was soft and the words sounded almost affectionate… and the smile on his face...
But that was probably just the blood loss.
Had to be...
---
"Nagasone-niichan??"
A soft groan escaped Nagasone's lips as he slowly opened his eyes, turning his head toward the sound of the voice. It took a moment for everything to come into focus, but when it did, the first thing he saw was a very familiar mop of orange hair and a very worried face hovering over him. "Nn… Urashima…?"
"Ah! You're awake! Hachisuka-niichan! Hachisuka-niichan!!"
A moment later the sliding door out onto the veranda quickly slid open to reveal, for a brief second, a worried, then relieved, Hachisuka. "Hm. About time. You kept us waiting."
"Kept you waiting…?"
Urashima shifted uncomfortably where he sat and looked a bit pained, something Kamekichi seemed to pick up on, as the turtle inched a bit closer to the wakizashi's face to nuzzle on him as Urashima started to speak. "You were in a bad way when you got back… You and Hachisuka-niichan both were. Yamabushi and Tonbokiri had to rush you both to the repair room… Hachisuka-niichan ended up being ok, he just has to take it slow for a day… but y-you…" he trailed off when his voice cracked, ducking his head in an attempt to get himself back together.
That's when Hachisuka took over. "Your repairs took over a day and a half. And even after you were repaired, you would not wake. Saniwa and Yagen both attributed it to just how badly you had been injured, saying your body just needed to rest and recover. It's been almost a full day since you were moved in here."
"I've been down for two and a half days then…" Nagasone echoed as he eased himself into a sitting position, looking at the other two in the room for confirmation before huffing a soft, half humored laugh. "Mutsunokami is going to have a field day rubbing that in my face…"
"That's what you are concerned with??" Hachisuka growled, anger maring his normally elegant features. "Urashima and I have been worried sick for almost three days, waiting at your side and hoping you would be alright, and your first thought is that that gun toting half wit might mock you??"
Nagasone stared at him, both shocked and a little dumbfounded by the tirade. Not because Hachisuka was chastising him… that was normal… but there was a part of what he said… "You were worried about me?"
Hachisuka made a noise of surprise, not even realizing that he had admitted it out loud. However, having been called out, he quickly looked away with a huff, neither confirming nor denying the accusation. This proved not to be the best course of action though, seeing as the intention behind his lack of answer was very obviously lost on Urashima.
"Yeah! Hachisuka-niichan has either been right there next to you or right outside on the veranda the whole time! Only really left if he needed to go to the bathroom… he didn’t even leave to eat, someone had to bring his food here or I went and got it…"
A blush crept across Hachisuka's cheeks and he attempted to hide that by turning back to them both.
Nagasone blinked at how quickly the other man in the room had turned away, then looked down at the blanket over his lap. Urashima had been known to exaggerate sometimes… but judging on Hachisuka’s reaction and the hazy details he could remember about what had happened, he wasn’t so sure this was one of those times. As proud a man as Hachisuka was, he would never likely admit to anything with too much of an audience… He would have to get him alone and-
grrrrRROOOOAR
“.... Was that your stomach, Nagasone-niichan??”
“He hasn’t eaten since leaving on our mission, Urashima, so that would be a fair assumption.” Hachisuka huffed, turning back to look at them. “Why don’t you go inform Shokudaikiri that the f….” He stopped himself with a sigh, seeing the look already starting to form on Urashima’s face. “That Nagasone is awake and see if he will make something for him. I trust he will know what to make.” “Ok!” Urashima started to get to his feet, only to pause for half a second, then throw his arms around Nagasone. He clung to him tightly, lingering as if he were almost afraid to let go… and when he spoke up, his voice trembled, despite the clear effort not to do so. “I’m glad you are ok, Nagasone-nii…”
Nagasone hummed softly, wrapping his arms around the smaller man and closing his eyes, just holding him close for as long as he needed. When Urashima did finally pull away, he sniffled, wiping at his face before flashing that typical bright smile and running out of the room. Nagasone watched him go, then sighed softly, his eyes trailing back down to his lap.
“He asked me every few hours if I thought you were going to be ok.”
He lifted his head, watching as Hachisuka came and knelt down at the foot of his futon.
“I told him I did not know… it pained me to have to say such a thing, true as it was, especially after he cried himself to sleep next to you the first night.”
Gold eyes studied the man as he spoke, searching for the expected contempt and resentment… but surprisingly, Nagasone found none. In fact, the more he studied Hachisuka… the more he realized just how tired the other man looked. His posture was not as straight and proper as normal, the area under his eyes was dark, his hair, though brushed and clean, was only sort of haphazardly thrown up and out of his face…
“... What?”
Nagasone quickly shifted his gaze back to meet Hachisuka’s eyes. “Hmm?”
“You are staring.”
“... You look exhausted.”
That made Hachisuka blink and look down in a huff. “I’m fine.”
“Hachisuka-”
“Don’t!” He snapped, hands fisting into his clothes so tight his knuckles turned white. There was a pause, a moment of stunned silence… then he slowly let out a shaky breath. “D-don’t… Don’t pity me. I didn’t need your pity, fake! I’m only tired because I was caring for Urashima while you were… While you were...” Hachisuka hated how obvious a lie his words were, cursing himself and the man before him in his head… but he never looked up. He gritted his teeth, trying to force himself to sound angry. “You… You are not a Kotetsu. You will never be a Kotetsu… You…”
Nagasone’s brows pinched. The conflict in Hachisuka’s trembling voice, as if he were trying to convince himself of what he was saying more than Nagasone… it was both confusing and painful to hear. “I know. I’m a fake… but-”
“Shut up!” Hachisuka growled through his clenched jaw. “I… I despise what you are! So Why… Why can’t I...” Whatever he had hoped to say was lost, dissipating into thin air as a lone tear fell from his cheek onto his hand. Before any others could escape, he lurched forward, grabbing Nagasone roughly by his shoulders and pulling him forward, nails biting into the other man’s skin as he lifted his head to meet Nagasone’s eyes. It was clear that he had so much he wanted to say, but the words just would not come out. They just sat there, staring at each other, until finally the dam broke and Hachisuka hid his face against Nagasone with a strangled sob. He couldn’t hold it back any more. Two damned days… He had struggled for two days, fighting with himself and his worry for Nagasone, trying to understand why he did what he did and why it mattered so much, all while trying to be strong and be a sense of peace for the terrified Urashima. Now, sitting here, staring this man in the face after he finally came back from the edge of death… “D-Don’t… Do not ever scare me like that again or I swear… I… I-I’ll…”
Nagasone’s eyes went wide, holding his arms out to the side, unsure of how to react or what to do. “Hachisuka…?”
“Y-Yes… go on… laugh… an a-authentic, proud sword like me… reduced to tears because I was terrified.”
“I’m not going to laugh at you… I just don’t understand why.” Nagasone admitted. “If you hate me so much, then why…?”
“Y-You idiot... I hate WHAT you are… but I don’t… I don’t hate who you are! I tried! I wanted to! But I can’t! I can’t...”
Again, Nagasone went wide-eyed… but slowly, timidly, he wrapped his arms around Hachisuka, pausing to see if he was going to get told to let go. When he didn’t, he hugged him a little tighter, a little closer, pressing his nose into lavender hair and letting the man in his arms have his moment. He didn’t ask any more questions (though he had many), didn’t speak, didn’t move… Just sat there quietly until Hachisuka was ready to be let go.
But that moment never came.
The next thing Nagasone knew, the door slid open and the smell of food drifted into the room. He lifted his head to look back at Urashima, but when Hachisuka didn’t move, he looked back down to check on him… only to find that he was asleep. A soft smile crossed his face, then glanced back to give Urashima a signal to keep quiet. “Huh? Oh… Hachisuka-nii is asleep…” Urashima seemed a little surprised, standing there with this tray in his hand with a dumbfounded look on his face.
“Yeah...” Nagasone hummed softly, gently shifting Hachisuka in his arms so he could hold him and attempt to eat at the same time. “But he won’t be for long if my stomach growls again and whatever you have smells really good.”
.
With a small snort, Urashima sat the tray down. “It’s udon! And Shokudaikiri made it! Of course it's good! You want me to move him so you can eat?”
“No. Let him sleep. He looks like he needs it.” Nagasone said as he picked up his chopsticks and started trying to figure out how he was going to eat this with one hand… only to suddenly have the bowl being held closer to his face. “Thanks.” Urashima gave him a nod and looked back at Hachisuka, studying him for a moment before glancing up to Nagasone again. “Yeah… he… he commented on how long your repair took… but his took almost a day. And he hasn’t really rested much since then…”
“Did he say why he seemed so bothered?”
“Not really… He… He didn’t really speak much at all...” Urashima’s face fell a little as he stared straight ahead at the bowl in his hand. “He did say that if you didn’t wake up, he would never forgive you… Oh! He did say something else… I think he thought I was asleep when he said it... But something about needing to tell you something important… He sounded distressed about it.”
“Hmm…” He wondered if that had anything to do with the stressed, desperate rambling from earlier, when Hachisuka was too tired to have a filter. Still, he didn’t want to worry Urashima any more, so he just grinned. “I’ll bug him about it when he wakes up.”
“You do know he’s going to have a fit when he wakes with you holding him like that, right?”
“Eh. It’s fine... He can have his fit.”
“Huh? Don’t you dread it?”
“No…” Nagasone looked at Hachisuka with a soft smile. Maybe he used to. Listening to Hachisuka constantly berating him for something was grating on the ears… but he had a strange feeling like this time would be different. Not as harsh, not as angry…
To be honest… if Nagasone was to tell the truth…
“I’m looking forward to it, actually.”

Since you're working on a different bingo sheet, does that mean you've stopped writing the requests on the other one?
Yes I'm afraid so. I started over with a new card and am now doing the requests for it on Twitter as I can. It got to where I could not even work on other things without feeling obligated or bad. So I deleted it all and started over and adopted a new "I am not obligated" mindset.
I apologize for being unable to complete the previous one or accommodate the requests for it. However, you are welcome to visit me on twitter at Silverdriftxiii, and make a request on the current card via that post and I'll write if I'm able! I also have a google doc showing what requests I still have and have completed.
Edit: here, a direct link to the tweet, the google doc is in the reples https://twitter.com/SilverdriftXIII/status/1273380018194919424?s=20
