Will barely offered the other man a nod at his words, never really one to lie. He hadn't been the most selfless of people growing up, if he were being honest. It was this job that changed him - something about seeing people that had bigger problems than he had ever dealt with making it without having to succumb to their weakness, unlike him. Being a paramedic was a job that didn't allow for whoever did it to remain neutral about a lot of things, you either put your all into it or you didn't make it too far, he'd learned shortly after becoming one.
"You feeling alright?" He asked Levi as he began checking for the patient's vitals and routine-like steps while his partner prepared the oxygen tank and mask. Will checked the patient's eyes and nodded at Levi's explanation. "Yeah, the wind will do that. It's nothing to worry about." Despite how gloomy the day was, the paramedic offered the patient a warm smile, comforting, even. Then he looked back at Levi. "We will need a few minutes to stabilize them, but it may be a good idea to bring them to the hospital, all things considered."
Exhaling an assured breath, he could instantly pick up on the diligence behind the processes underway by the medical professionals, treating the patient that had staggered through the country club’s entrance earlier. Brows creasing, Levi momentarily shifted attention towards his phone screen, scrolling through any further news updates and sending a message off to the Parks that Will was there now. Which would further quell their own worry over their business’ unfolding situation.
“— Me? Honestly, I'm more concerned with how you guys are.” Those types of inquiries not his strong suit regardless. “I mean, I think so...it doesn’t look like I was out in smoke for long, does it?” Levi’s expression briefly grimaced, though a relief settles instead hearing the paramedic state the wind’s contribution was a rather normal occurrence. Even better, it seemed the individual would turn out alright. “Sure, take the time you need." He nods, footing back a few steps for their space just in case. "I can call another ambulance to pick them up?" Would maybe save Will's team a hospital detour.
⸺JASIRI WATKINS.
Initially, she thought it would take a couple more weeks for them to either rekindle their relationship or get some closure to move on. They both had been dragging their feet about it since Christmas. Naturally, she wanted the former, and was relieved that Levi wanted the same.
To say that Jasiri was looking forward to tonight would be an understatement. Last week she went shopping with Iyana and found the perfect ensemble for Valentine’s festivities. The date didn’t have to be perfect or grand, but she knows who she’s dealing with. If Jasiri was a gambler, she would bet it all on Levi going above and beyond with the plans he’s made for tonight. Even when they were secretly an item he did his best to make things special within the confines of their limitations.
Jasiri looked up from her menu when Levi spoke, his grin inspired a smile of her own. “As corny as this sounds, I’m already happy just being out with you.” There should be no underestimating how much she enjoys the simple pleasure of sharing his company. “I didn’t expect to like Sedona as much as I have,” she admitted. Aside from avoiding the conversation they had earlier, seeing more of this town influenced her trip’s extension. “I’ve always lived in big cities, so this is different, but the good kind,” she muses. “I am both nervous and excited for this move. You always get me to do the unexpected– such a bad influence,” she teased before dipping her gaze to study the menu again. “This all looks so good, do you know what you’re ordering?”
Jasiri’s happiness instilled in the decision mattered above all. Things were confining for them before, their public lives endlessly trailed under a microscope. Jas feeling trapped among her new surroundings wasn’t what he wanted for her, after experiencing similar sentiments upon his untimely relocation. It made this recent reunion all the more valued. Vital. Nothing could've measured to having the incredible woman seated across from him mere inches away once more. With a gaze fixed forward, the deep reds adorning her striking frame were highlighted further underneath the dimmed lighting above the private, reserved table. The image seared itself into his mind, as passing memory was all he had for a time.
Shielding himself by way of avoidance wouldn't save anything this time. In reality, that only delayed an inevitable conversation looming between them. What they'd expressed already during breakfast earlier crashed through the surface, providing new ground to stand on. Already a long time coming on his closed-off part that she broke through.
The firm lines making up Levi’s expression were already softening at the admission, a direct reflex that found itself occurring around the easy charisma she naturally possessed. “No, that’s not corny at all.” With an amused shake of his head, a light breath of a laugh escapes him. “There will be a lot more of that now.” She’d upheld enough patience hiding away before, which was still hardly fair even then. “You know, you sound a lot like someone I know when they first got here..” A hinted smirk curves the corner of his mouth, one that didn’t reach completely reach behind his deep blues. That isolation had struck a different kind of nerve.
Her teasing accusation instigated Levi's broad shoulders leaning forward slightly further. "A terrible influence.." His tone drops to a lower rasp, holding the glint sparkling within Jasiri's eyes. "And I know what I want." He only readily remembers the menu once she resumed attention on hers. "Some of the best around." No less of course. "They're known for their steak options, but get anything you want." An insistence. "I was serious, you know, if you did need anything more with the move.."

Don't ask me how I slept. I didn't.
"Yeah," he nodded his head, "they both involve a lot of pretending you meant to do exactly what just happened, huh?" His brow raised, a hint of amusement threaded through his words. "Why wouldn't I embarass myself?" He looked to the other, "New town, new people and everyone here has a history for each other. It feels a lot like walking into a movie halfway through and trying to act like you know all the characters." Omari took his pool stick, leaning over the table to take a shot. He sunk the ball into the corner pocket before straightening himself back up.
Levi lines up his next shot while a few calculated moments pass, cue ball careening into the loose ones in waiting across the pool table from Omari’s last turn. “— Think you got it all figured out, don’t you?” A challenging glint flickers behind his eyes, one usually reserved for fellow opponents. At the other man's further protest, a light scoff of a laugh betrays him. “This place is far from any movie..when I was placed here? I thought that too at first.” Shoulders lift themselves into a shrug, like his situation had been completely natural. Except for anything but. “You're lucking out. Already getting a place, a job, your sister's here.."
⸺DARIUS CARTER.
“Yes, the tentative list starts on the second-to-last page,” he informs Levi, while gesturing to the document still in the other’s hand. Darius’ enthusiasm grew the more they discussed the idea. “I do have more to add, but this is just a preliminary thing, you will of course have input on this project.” Naturally, it wouldn’t make sense for the venture to proceed without it. The names on the document would be enough to show that the interest is there.
“There’s also another list like that for another venture with your name on it,” he might as well strike while the iron is hot as they say. “In fact, that’s an understatement,” Darius picks up the other folder that he had set down on the coffee table. “This one is inspired by you actually,” he admits with a grin. “No youth this time, it’s adult-centered for those who think that they can beat a pro-golfer. This challenge could work in multiple scenarios– for charity, auction prize, you know, anything along those lines.”
Receiving the directive, Levi flips steadily through the document stack he’d been provided, halting upon the specified page. As if sufficient evidence practically stared, challenged him right off the paper. Yet, with the offer coming from Darius of all people, no further validity would need questioned. His blues scanned down the list of names, indicating that the storied past truly wasn’t long buried and gone after all. How could the opportunity be refused when the other man’s tone hinted at such confident faith in the ideas, in his prescense?
While another full folder came his way, this was beyond what he could’ve expected from the City Hall meeting. A momentary beat passed while he let Darius complete the pitch’s entirety first and foremost before finally lifting his gaze from the paperwork stash held within his possession. “— Well, got to give the people what they want, don't we?” A slight smirk ghosts the curve of his mouth. "I mean, you did all this work.." A hand gestures back in sheer appreciation to the opened folder contents. "Coming up with not one, but two of these ventures revolving around me. You'll have to be repaid somehow."
Omari's steps took him away from the table, watching as Levi approached. "Is strategy also a way to say you got lucky on the first go around?" His brow raised, though there was a hint of more amusement in his words. Levi Becker might not be Omari's favorite person in the world but it mattered that Jasari cared about him. So, he was trying. "I figured I might as well not embarrass myself completely in front of all these new people." Not that many even paid attention to what was going on at the pool table. "Might as well give it my best effort to keep you honest now." His shoulders lifted into a shrug, a faint smile pulling the corners of his lips upward.
“I don’t know, that didn’t look like all luck to me..” Levi aimlessly plants a pool stick’s end into the bar floor. Focused observation picked up on the latest move's potential. “Pool and golf? There’s actually a good amount of similarity..” His shoulders lift, shrugging, as if making the comparison for sheer conversation’s sake between them. Jasiri’s family remaining far from pleased with him was expected, her name having been drug down into his public disaster. Renewed stakes were only realized with Omari now joining his sister, becoming a Sedona resident himself. Above all, he knew how much it made Jasiri’s adjustment all the easier. The following downplay hinted behind the other man's tone had Levi's brow creasing, a flicker of disbelief crossing his expression. “— Why would you think you’d embarrass yourself?”
