Eunsae sat on a ridge overlooking a beach with his dark wings extended to feel the cool air around him. As painful as it was to sprout them, it felt good to spread his wings every now & then. The ocean breeze swept through his curls, leaving behind the smell of salt & a smile on his face. This particular beach was one of his favorites. It was well-hidden, with terrain too rocky to reach by car & waves too wild for vacationers to enjoy, so he was always alone. Or he always had been alone.

                                   ❝     ―  show me what you’re doing with the children. ❞  this way was better than the other idea he had, threatening the child to see if the other would protect them. he would rather not threaten children or any human, there was far too much of a chance of things going wrong.                  ༊*·˚  —–—–          jaeho really never tried to hide who or what he was, there was rarely ever a reason to hide. he never got close to any humans, not on any personal level. he kept everyone at an arms length to make sure he never hurts anyone he doesn’t need to. ❝     ―  i’m only harmful when i need to be. ❞

Show him? Eunsae quirked a brow up at the unexpected request. It was a fair proposal, but hard to fulfill. Finding a home for the child could take days, or weeks. He knew a few potential foster families, but it would take time to reach them. Time this man might not wish to spare.

                                   ❝     ―  oh yeah? and what if the guy deserves this grave act of violence? huh? ❞ marve crossed her arms over her chest as she glared at the taller, jaw clenched in irritation. where does this guy get off in telling her what to do? what she was doing on jisung’s orders was none of this man’s business. ❝ some people deserve to get their ass beat. ❞

HER  SMILE  MAINTAINS  UPON  PAINTED  LIPS  ,  the  glossy  look  in  her  eyes  still  holding  as  she  looks  upon  the  newcomer  .  ❛    only  one  ?    ❜      she  questions  ,  a  perked  brow  pointing  downwards  as  if  his  hand  had  any  evidence  to  prove  or  disprove  her  next  statement  ,  ❛      was  it  yours  ?      ❜    thoughtlessly  ,  another  flower  is  picked  from  it’s  holding  vase  and  placed  carefully  .  a  pale  pink  color  that  from  a  distance  would  blend  in  nicely  with  this  atrocity  of  an  arrangement  that  she  was  being  paid  for  .  it’s  a  note  to  self  that  she  becomes  a  little  bit  more  picky  with  her  clients  from  here  on  out  .  

❛      sorry  ,  that’s  really  not  my  business  and  probably  sounds  wildly  inappropriate  ,  right  ?   ❜    she  bites  back  ,  her  awkwardness  shining  through  before  she  shakes  her  head  ,  ❛      i  just  mean  was  it  your  own  or  someone  else’s  because  everyone’s  wedding  is  different  ,  you  know  what  i  mean  ?   ❜    she  barely  scrapes  by  with  that  ,  sometimes  asking  too  many  questions  ,  or  over  speaking  ,  or  even  talking  too  little  depending  on  the  day  -  but  then  he  brings  up  rosemary  and  a  quizzical  look  explores  her  features  ,  ❛    rosemary  ?  i  mean  ,  yes  ,  but  …    not  here  ,  i  keep  it  in  my  little  greenhouse  on  the  roof  of  the  building   ❜    she  pauses  ,  ❛      are  you  looking  to  use  it  for  cooking  or  … ❜

Was it yours? The statement echoed in his mind & a sadness filled his eyes, but his smile never faltered. Every memory he held of that day was a happy one, however distant & faded it might be. Should he be truthful & say ‘yes’, or stay quiet to avoid more questions? He crossed his arms & tilted his head in thought.

“It might have been,” he settled on eventually. The lack of a ring on his finger would surely make her think he was just acting coy.

               ༊*·˚  —–—–          jaeho sighed, gaze following the small child for a moment before falling back to the winged male. ❝     ―  i have very little interest in the child. you on the other hand, i do. ❞ the vampire’s grip on the hilt of his sword tightened as he looked the other over. he didn’t seem all that threatening but then again, looks can be very decieving.

                                     ❝     ―  i’m here to see just how dangerous you really are. i’ll only leave if you can prove you are of no harm to the humans around you. if you are, then.. ❞ he slowly raises his blade to point at the other. ❝ i will fulfill my sworn duty of protecting innocents. ❞

“And just how should I do that? Anyone can pretend to be harmless, but I know of none who can prove it.” Eunsae's focus remained transfixed on the other's face, unwavering even as the sword pointed to him. If the man were to make a move, he would be able to see it in his eyes faster than he could react to the blade.

               ༊*·˚  —–—–          she felt frustration build up even more at his teasing tone, her jaw clenching a bit. ❝     ―  you got in my way, you dumbass- ❞ she snapped as she stepped closer to him, glaring up at him as she harshly poked his chest. ❝ do you exist just to get into people’s ways, bird brain? or am i just that f--king special- ❞

EYES  BRIGHTEN  AT  THE  WORDS  OF  HER  NEWEST  POTENTIAL  CUSTOMER  ,  a  smile  forming  proud  upon  her  lips  as  she  shakes  her  head  ,  ❛      normally  you’d  be  spot  on  ,  i’ve  done  almost  this  exact  same  style  for  so  many  weddings  ?  …  not  all  of  them  their  firsts  either  ,  but  that’s  almost  breaking  client  florist  confidentiality   ❜    she  fusses  with  the  arrangement  for  a  moment  ,  making  sure  it  looks  perfect  ,  ❛      would  you  believe  me  if  i  told  you  that  this  one  is  for  the  mother  of  the  bride  ?        ❜    first  wedding  ,  but  mother  monsters  are  always  around  ,  poking  their  noses  ,  ❛  i’m  tempted  to  at  least  put  a  splash  of  color  in  there  ,  make  it  not  so  obvious  that  this  woman  is  definitely  going  to  be  her  future  daughter  -  in  -  law’s  nightmare  ,  you  know  ?    ❜    she  pauses  ,  amusement  showing  with  ease  ,  ❛      go  to  a  lot  of  first  weddings  ?  you  seem  familiar  with  the  floral  arrangements   ❜

It was a rare thing these days to find a shop owner who chatted so freely & happily with their patrons. As rare, perhaps, as someone who knew the language of flowers, & yet here stood two such people. Eunsae chuckled at her implications. The drama around weddings was not something he was familiar with at all, but he could still appreciate the humor in it.

His smile faltered only for a moment as he pondered how to answer her question. He couldn’t very well admit that the reason he knew so much was that he had lived through the Victorian Era, when flowers were used to convey any sentiment words wouldn’t suffice for. Every human who lived back then was now dead, & emojis mainly used for that purpose.

It was late & Eunsae had far too much to drink at a vintage bar a few doors down. Crossing the road would be difficult in this state & he had no phone with which to call a cab, but thankfully, he had no intention of doing either of those things. Instead, he found some poor, unsuspecting stranger sitting in an outdoor dining area & plopped himself in the seat across from him.

“You seem like you have good ears,” he slurred out. His voice was soft, almost a whisper over the sound of passing traffic. “Or not. You can ignore me if y'like. I'm just gonna wax philosop'cle for a bit & pretend you're lis'ning.”

A small boy clung to the seam of Eunsae's trousers as a foreboding stranger stood in the doorway. Eunsae could only guess that rumors of a ‘winged beast’ who stole children had begun to spread & this man had tracked him down in response.

“Wait upstairs,” he told the boy, who followed the order in a trance.
