The two main ideas I had for the languages of each society went something like this:

The COI would have had the closest thing to modern English. I have decided that this is a very efficient verbal shorthand. Communication happens extremely quickly between people. It takes minimal effort to get a point across.

Eden is archaic. Their language evolved that same shorthand, but it quickly grew around scripture and poetic phrasing rather than efficiency. They are the opposite of "literal" and never say what they truly mean, which has caused the COI to very rapidly decide that they are untrustworthy and difficult to understand.

Meanwhile Eden folk think the COI dialect was made for jarheads. It's extremely obvious if you're from the COI to a native Edenite.

Literally none of this is supposed to make sense linguistically because I know fuck all about that. I just like the concept of putting language barriers on everyone LOL

Here's my little paper on how to use it in a writing setting! I've translated an Iron Lung line so you can understand how it works up front:

Going into episodes of excessive fasting because "there isn't enough", even in times when there is. Eden snuffed out the needy and he survived by staying scarce.

For some context, my kintype is a Hunter Slime from the game Slime Rancher.
