I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that a] I am not capable of controlling the weather b] I needed to master the art of patience and c] the fury of nature may be a blessing, not a curse.
Paulo Coelho (via luna---belle)
When somebody provokes your anger, the only reason you get angry is because you’re holding on to how you think something is supposed to be. You’re denying how it is. Then you see it’s the expectations of your own mind that are creating your own hell. When you get frustrated because something isn’t the way you thought it would be, examine the way you thought, not just the thing that frustrates you. You’ll see that a lot of your emotional suffering is created by your models of how you think the universe should be and your inability to allow it to be as it is.

Reporter: What is 2+2?
Donald Trump answers the question: "I have to say a lot of people have been asking this question. No, really. A lot of people come up to me and they ask me. They say, 'What's 2+2'? And I tell them look, we know what 2+2 is. We've had almost eight years of the worst kind of math you can imagine. Oh my God, I can't believe it. Addition and subtraction of the 1s the 2s and the 3s. It's terrible. It's just terrible. Look, if you want to know what 2+2 is, do you want to know what 2+2 is? I'll tell you. First of all the number 2, by the way, I love the number 2. It's probably my favorite number, no it is my favorite number. You know what, it's probably more like the number two but with a lot of zeros behind it. A lot. If I'm being honest, I mean, if I'm being honest. I like a lot of zeros. Except for Marco Rubio, now he's a zero that I don't like. Though, I probably shouldn't say that. He's a nice guy but he's like, '10101000101,' on and on, like that. He's like a computer! You know what I mean? He's like a computer. I don't know. I mean, you know. So, we have all these numbers, and we can add them and subtract them and add them. TIMES them even. Did you know that? We can times them OR divide them, they don't tell you that, and I'll tell you, no one is better at the order of operations than me. You wouldn't believe it. So, we're gonna be the best on 2+2, believe me."
These Two Sisters Just Became The Youngest Owners Of A Beauty Supply Store In California
Blavity writes:
A trip to the beauty supply store, for almost all of us, includes one constant in the mix of yaky and kanekalon possibilities; there are rarely, if ever, any black owners behind the counter. Even though black women are one of the biggest consumers in the beauty industry, that number isn’t represented in ownership of beauty supply stores.

An Upper West Side high school teacher was fired for creating a curriculum with lessons about the Central Park Five.
English teacher Jeena Lee-Walker said her bosses at the High School for Arts, Imagination and Inquiry urged her in November 2013 to be more “balanced” in her approach to the racially charged Central Park jogger case that ended with five black and Latino teens being exonerated after spending several years in prison for the attack.
They told her the lessons could create little “riots,” according to court papers.
“I was stunned,” she told the Daily News. “I was kind of like, the facts are the facts. This is what happened. These boys went to jail and lost 14, 18 years of their lives. How can you say that in a more balanced way?”
Although Lee-Walker, 37, agreed to soften her approach, she argued “that students in general, and black students in particular, should be riled up.”
(full story)
Since this is a story about race, I want to make sure everyone is aware that this teacher is not Black.
When I caught the headline earlier today, I assumed it was a Black woman being railroaded by another racist institution for trying to teach the next generation the truth. When she said black students in particular should be riled up I raised my Black power fist in solidarity…and it’s still raised even though Ms. Lee-Walker is not Black. I’ll be honest – there are a lot of times when I feel like Asians are over here on one side while Blacks and Latinos are over on the other and they don’t want to be tainted by our struggle because their walk has its own difficulties that don’t always mirror ours. I love that this Asian woman with her post-grad Harvard degree is telling our Black children that they have the right to be upset about this kind of injustice.
More importantly though, I feel like I’ma have to homeschool my kids. I just don’t trust the educational system in this country. From textbooks trying to water down the horrors of slavery to little Black children being thrown out of school and unfairly punished in comparison to their white counterparts to this school saying that these kids would start riots if they knew the truth, I just don’t trust white folks in power trying to teach my Black kids about their history or relationship to this country. Which is worse: teaching a child in the safety of the classroom about a grave injustice and how we can move forward or not teaching them and letting them find out later as adults, thereby sewing more seeds of distrust that these institutions run by white people are never forthcoming about their misdeeds?
History repeats itself when you don’t pay attention and learn the first time around. Nobody benefits from having America’s shitty treatment of its nonwhite peoples swept under the rug. If you haven’t noticed, America is still treating us like shit and it would be even worse if we stopped fighting, stopped paying attention, and stopped learning from the fights our parents and grandparents had. We need way more teachers like Jeena Lee-Walker, and we need even more people like her in positions of power to make sure those teachers are protected.
