@silkscrapkeeper Opener for Morph Moth))
With the clunk of sun baked metal, Phoebe would hoist another part in to the bed of her pick up truck. Dusting her hands if rust off. She didnât usually have much of a reason to visit the scrap yard, but a curiosity had come to her a few days before hand. And of course, finding parts for some of the older lab machinery was always a plus.
Though the main reason she was there lay in a small, box like device in her hand. It hadnât gone off much yet, much to her expectation but itâs intended use was quite interesting. A device sheâd developed to recognise the signature of the Maverick virus. Able to scan the air waves for any matching digital signatures from long passed mechanicaloids in the scrap yard.
Sheâd wander back in, pressing the button to activate another wave, but as expected nothing seemed to stir, fortunately she supposed. Yet sheâd keep it tucked handy in her belt for the time being. If something of the like were to be near by, sheâd know from the blipping noise it would start to make.
âI was rather sure I saw some old appliances. They might have some in tact fusesâŚâ sheâd mutter to herself, not wanting to spend too much more time here than she needed to. But a list was a list.
âIt isâŚinfrequent that I run into anyone else trying to find ways of bringing fresh use out of things that society has long since discarded, and I may have gotten a little overinterested at the idea of talking with someone else on the subject. Iâd mostly just been interested in conversation. Maybe I could have assisted with what you were looking for, Iâm quite practiced at scavenging.â
He had a feeling she was lying about the gadget, because âBeeps if something is workingâ didnât seem like something that would cause the panic response heâd witnessed when it went off earlier. But he wasnât familiar with the device, maybe there was some nuance heâd missed. âMay I see it in action?â
âLook, I promise you it really isnât that interesting what I have planned. Itâs just for work. Some parts for some old storage units that are out of date. My boss is too cheap to buy new ones so I gotta make do.â sheâd at least try to explain and sate his curiosity. Not that it gave much away and wasnât again much further from the truth.
âIâŚah⌠I guess. Though it will just pick up your electrical signals.â Phoebe would pull the device out and turn it on. Pointing it at him as it stirred to life. âThough you do emit a lot more EMF than some old fuses. As do most reploids.â sheâd turn the device off again and pocket it. âI-is that everything? I mean, do you want some cash for the scrap? I didnt really know anyone really owned it.â sheâd try to change the subject off of the maverick detection unitâŚ
âShould give them more credit, maybe the limits on your funds are to encourage the extra inventiveness and creative problem solving. Would help reduce waste, find new ways to be efficient......or could just be a cheap corner cutter. Maybe not credit then, but you could try and find out. Maybe you find you can do better, replace them.â
He realized something that he hadnât picked up on. âWhat is your line of work, anyway? What do you do?â
