i'm ready to wake up

“Once upon a time there was a handsome prince and he was known all over the land for his wit and intellect.”

“What was the prince’s name?”

“Loki.”

“But that’s your name!”

“Yeah, well, I am a prince –”

“For real?!”

“Yes, for real.”

“Whoa …”

“Do you want me to continue or not?”

“Yes, sorry, of course …”

“Well, then. The prince has always been brave and a little mischievous –”

Before Loki is able to continue, though, another voice next to them suddenly pipes up, wondering, “Whatcha doing there, fellas?”

Mobius.

He looks down at the scene – Loki sitting on an armchair in the common area while Casey is lying next to him on the couch, a blanket spread above him –, both confusion and amusement on his features.

“Loki is telling me a fairytale,” Casey explains, his demeanor as sunny as ever.

Mobius blinks. “And why exactly?”

“Because I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately,” the man continues. “Hey, did you know that Loki is an actual prince?”

Mobius chuckles at that. “Yeah, I might have heard about that.”

“Are you a prince as well then?” Casey gasps as realization catches up with him. “Because you’re married and all.”

Loki can’t help but notice Mobius brushing over the ring on his left hand on instinct hearing those words. He doesn’t even seem to register the small gesture while Loki smiles to himself and glances at his own ring on his finger. It still feels new and exciting, even though it has been close to a year now. Or whatever is equivalent with that time period here in the TVA.

“Well, I don’t know,” Mobius answers, laughter in his voice. “Loki, am I a prince?”

“You are whatever you want to be, darling,” Loki responds. “A prince, a king, a god. I will make it all happen, just say the word.”

Mobius’ face softens for a moment. “I think I’m just fine being a little analyst.”

Of course he is. Loki didn’t expect anything less.

Casey, meanwhile, nods as though this all makes the most sense. “You’re a great analyst, Mobius.”

The agent smiles at the man. “Thank you so much, Casey. And I’m sorry to hear you’re not sleeping well lately.”

“It’s alright,” Casey says. “Loki’s gonna help me out.”

“Oh, I’m sure he will,” Mobius laughs before he steps closer and presses a tender kiss to Loki’s temple. And then adds, quietly so that only the god is able to hear him, “When you have finished putting the kid to sleep, you should come to bed as well. I don’t want to miss you for too long.”

The heart in Loki’s chest jumps. “Don’t worry, this won’t take long. My fairytales are legendary.”

And so he continues to tell Casey about princes and knights and dragons and soon enough the man is snoring peacefully into his pillow.

Mission accomplished.

When he crawls into bed next to Mobius only fifteen minutes later, the analyst puts his book aside and asks, “So, do I get a fairytale as well?”

It was such a small detail. A note in the 'wardrobe' section of their mission assignment: 'They'll be expecting you to be a couple. Matching outfits are a must.'

Lowering the case file, Mobius shot a look at Loki, who had been reading it over his shoulder at the same time. A look that was at once guilty and inquiring, drawing up memories of a discussion they'd already had several times over, all of which Loki caught onto as soon as their eyes met. Letting out a quiet sigh of resignation, he smiled slightly and gave a short nod. After nervously returning the smile, Mobius turned his attention to B-15, who had brought them the assignment.

"Just one thing, B," he began, tentative. He pointed out the note that'd caught their attention and tapped it a few times. "This, uh…this note here?"

B-15 looked closer, her ponderous frown clearing when she recognized what he was calling into question. She nodded once, briskly. "About you two being a couple," she affirmed, looking between them, "I didn't anticipate that being a problem."

"No! No, it's not a problem; it's—" Mobius cut the thought short with a soft huff, averting his eyes down to the floor as his face flushed. After a brief moment to recover himself, he took a deep breath, then met B-15's eyes again. "Listen. We have a confession to make."

He glanced again at Loki, who gave him another encouraging nod. "Go on."

Bolstered by his partner's affirmation, Mobius found the courage to continue. "We've…been a couple for about a month now," he admitted to B-15, "So, no: pretending to be a couple on a mission won't be a problem, because we won't have to pretend. We just…" He shrugged. "…wanted to keep it to ourselves for a little while."

B-15 blinked at them, apparently bewildered. "Yeah, no shit you two are a couple," she shot right back, "Did you think you were keeping that to yourselves this whole time??"

Both Mobius and Loki were forced to do a double-take at that.

"What?" Loki demanded loudly. (A little too loudly for the office space, to be completely honest.) Spotting Casey passing on his way to the computer banks at the front of the room, he called to him, "Casey, did you already know Mobius and I were together??"

Stopping in his tracks, Casey stared wide-eyed between him, Mobius, and B-15, and when he saw that, Loki was sure that at least he'd been taken by surprise. But then—

"Was I not supposed to?" Casey stammered in return, sounding as though he was afraid he was in trouble.

Hands on his hips, Loki huffed and tipped his head back in exasperation. "It was supposed to be a secret…"

"That would imply that you two thought you were being discreet," O.B. commented mildly from the computers that Casey had been heading toward before being accosted.

Loki was struck speechless. Apparently, everybody already knew about their relationship status.

"Honestly, it's more amazing to hear that you two have officially been together for only a month," B-15 added in a mutter, really driving the point home.

and this isn't just me being delusional (well i'm lying. 90% of it is delusion BUT... that 10%) but the only character we see pine form an attachment to is teddy, and his ending is very sudden. he was supposed to get his redemption and instead received a bullet to the head. of course many other people help out and even die for pine, but troubled person tied to roper with a beautiful face, a tragic backstory and a conflicted soul (see: jed)? it's different now: jonathan pine wants to be your knight in shining armour so fucking bad.

and then he couldn't fully act on his emotions out of apprehension or shame or realising he doesn't have time to be bisexual right now. this and the fact that the last shot we see of pine is exhausted and Out Of It. So would it be that weird if teddy just popped up every once in a while like Hey Girlllll do you miss me? don't you wanna return the bullet to roper? do you have regrets that our final intimate moment wasn't supposed to be final and there was supposed to be an after and Maybe there would've been a chance to unpack whatever was up with us???
