"So, you're supposed to be the new Heylin Lord? Or Lady? I knew someone else who'd call herself the queen of it, so I just wanna make sure on terminology here."
âMh?â The menacing scientist looks up from a chemical experiment. âI am a Lord. I killed for this title,â xe says, returning attention to the test tubes of red liquids in hand. âIf this Queen you speak of is Wuya then a Lord has ways to make even the royals bend a knee. But someone like you already knew that, right, Spicer?
âNow then,â the glass tubes clink as they are returned to a rack. âI didnât invite you here to discuss titles. I invited you here to ask what you want from me to form a partnership.â

This is how my blog feels right about now.
It feels like an uphill battle a lot of the time for people to show any empathy for anyone other than themselves. đ

Barkey and Chaos
âYes, of course,â Â the tree says, a root gracefully moving to drop the metallic dome into Kimikoâs hands. Â âI knew it had to be you based on this alone. Â You never let it off your person.â
âWhat exactly is so important about that bit of jewelry anyway?â Â Chaos asks, crowding in towards Kimiko to get a peek at the pendant.
âAs for the other Wu,â Barkey starts. Â âThe Elder Dragonsâthatâs your future self and comradesâdecided that it was in the best interests of the world to scatter the Shen Gong Wu once again in order to maintain universal balance.â
âSomething about too much power in one place,â Chaos shrugs. Â âKind of makes training easier since I donât have to learn how to use Wu,â her chest puffs out with pride. Â âIt super sucked for the generation before me. Â I mean, first youâre gathering Wu and training with them, next you suddenly canât use them anymore. Â I bet it was like learning to walk again or something.â Â A dismissive hand wave.
Her eyebrow arches at Barkeyâs statement, but gives him a nod anyway, thankful he managed to recognize her regardless the reason. âMm, wellâŚit is pretty important.â
Kimiko spots her reflection in the pendants shine, and sheâs grateful that at least her appearance doesnât seem to have changed in the slightest. And that her pendant didnât seem to have gotten damaged either. She breathes a sigh of relief before holding it out for Chaos to see. âThis. I think itâs the reason for my being here.â
She blinks, glancing back and forth between Barkey and Chaos, before giving a single, understanding nod. âThat makes sense.â Sheâd have to ask about the Elder Dragonsâthat is, her future self and others, at a later, more appropriate time. For now, she will just accept everything told to her and focus on her own current situation. âOh. Then that must mean youâreâŚâ her attention is on Chaos, finger tips on her chin and a twinkle in her eye, âfrom the next generation of Dragons?â
She doesnât bother with acknowledging the last comment Chaos makes. Though, she wasnât very fond of the way she said it to her. It made it sound like they were helpless without the aide of the magical artifacts. Well, it wasnât important at the moment.
âIt matches your eyes,â Chaos says rather flatly, before tilting her head quizzically. âIt looks like a bunch of crescent moons. I got a crescent moon pendant-thing too.â Slender fingers tap a silver crescent clipped to her sash. âNever leave my room without it. I guess we really do have similar tastes.
âAs for being from the ânext generation,â Iâm currently in training to become a Dragon Warrior, but uh, yeah! Current generation. Or future?â How does that work? âIf you time traveled thatâs kind of confusing.â
âIt goes your generation, a new generation, and then Chaosâ generation,â Barkey summarizes for Kimiko. âChaosâ teachers are your future students.â
âI thought they were Master Ping Pongâs students.â
âOh, they are. They are also Kimikoâs students.â
âThat... doesnât track, but whatever. If this pendant brought you here, it must be for a reason. Right? I mean, magical objects usually donât do things without a reason, right? ...right?â Chaos pleads. âBesides, isnât time travel, like, bad and stuff?â The young teen gasps sharply. âCan Master Taketsu punish his Master for violating the rules?!â
Barkey and Chaos
âWell⌠thatâs, uhââ Barkey starts.
Chaos gasps.  âYou know Master Omi?!â  Vivid eyes go wide with surprise.  If her eyebrows arch any higher theyâll go right off her face.  âAh!  Of course!â  Hands clap together.  âYou must be Master Kimiko!  Though, itâs strange⌠you donât look nearly old enough to be her, and your hair is too long and⌠one color.â
âSomeone from another time, perhaps?â Â Barkey offers.
Chaos blinks before staring almost blankly at Kimiko.  Is the child thinking?  âBut⌠how?  Werenât the time travel Wu some of the first that were hidden again?  I know there are other means,â the young monkâs face strains, as if remembering the sound of nails on a chalk board.  âBut it doesnât explain how she got in your branches.â
âM-master?â The word comes out in disbelief. The girl called her a master. She starts frantically waving her hands as she attempts to tell Chaos sheâs wrong, or that she has the wrong Kimiko, at the least.
She feels relief at Barkeyâs suggestion. Sheâs quick to point her finger at him and agree. âYes! That! Thatâs gotta be it! Something like thatâŚprobablyâŚâ Her liveliness deflates, her fingers softly tapping at her chin. Her mind goes to the pendant. Did it displace her in time? But the one her sister had⌠She blinks, suddenly remembering something.
âBarkey!â She pipes up again. âYou picked up my pendant, didnât you? It fell out of your branches.âÂ
Her ears perk up at Chaosâ statement. She turns her head to the girl. Curiosity gleams in her eyes. She has to ask. âYouâre hiding the Wu? Why?â
âYes, of course,â the tree says, a root gracefully moving to drop the metallic dome into Kimikoâs hands. âI knew it had to be you based on this alone. You never let it off your person.â
âWhat exactly is so important about that bit of jewelry anyway?â Chaos asks, crowding in towards Kimiko to get a peek at the pendant.
âAs for the other Wu,â Barkey starts. âThe Elder Dragons--thatâs your future self and comrades--decided that it was in the best interests of the world to scatter the Shen Gong Wu once again in order to maintain universal balance.â

if you think that female muses shouldnât have to be toned down for the comfort of other people?Â
Female muses donât have to be easy. They donât have to be cute, they donât have to hold back their drama. They arenât interesting despite their chaotic personality, but because of it.Â
If you are interested in interacting with female muses who are powerful, multi-layered and complicated, please help me spread this. I want to make a point.
Barkey andâŚ
The root gently hoists Kimiko down to the paved courtyard. Â Once Kimiko is safely standing, the roots pull away to leave room for people to walk around without having to watch their every step.
âWell, of course I know Chaos. Â Sheâs been raised at the temple for her whole life,â a faint chuckle.
The other, this âChaos,â is another girl, roughly the same age as Kimiko with dark hair pulled up into a ponytail and secured with three metal bands. Â Her robes are mainly black and redâa swap of the usual red and black of Xiaolin monks.
âDonât remind me, Barkey,â she groans.  The girl studies Kimiko, head cocked to one side, index finger and thumb mashing a pouty lower lip.  Red eyes are quizzical, but have a glint of mischief in them.  âYou look⌠kind of familiar, but I canât quite put my finger on itâŚâ
âRaised here?â Her shoulders slump. If she was raised here, then how come they had never come across each other? The age difference between them didnât seem to be very large. She looks up at the tree with an inquisitive brow, then back to the girl in question. Even her robes were different from her own red and white.
âAnd you donât look familiar at all.â She shook her head. Aside from your vividly red eyes, came an after thought. She crossed her arms and leaned a bit forward, her eyes squinting to scrutinize the other. She first focused on her eyes, as if they would reveal everything she currently wanted to know, then slowly moved down. MaybeâŚmaybe there is something familiar about her. But, maybe not. Maybe she was just looking too hard and seeing what would help her make sense of this.Â
It scratched at her brain that something was off about her current situation, strange girl aside. She straightens up, attention turning back to Barkey. âSoâŚis she like an Omi situation?â She asks.
âWell... thatâs, uh--â Barkey starts.
Chaos gasps. Â âYou know Master Omi?!â Â Vivid eyes go wide with surprise. Â If her eyebrows arch any higher theyâll go right off her face. Â âAh! Â Of course!â Â Hands clap together. Â âYou must be Master Kimiko! Â Though, itâs strange... you donât look nearly old enough to be her, and your hair is too long and... one color.â
âSomeone from another time, perhaps?â Â Barkey offers.

The seifu seem to take Jackâs request to leave as their cue to have a staring match. If one could even call it that since Ava hasnât once opened her eyes. Taketsu still glares sternly at her.
âAva, you know we canât. Much longer and he will start to alter the timeline. I canâtââ Taketsu pauses as Avaâs smile widens. The Master inhales deeply through his nose, setting his snack down. âI canât allow that to happen. And what can we even do if he finds out about⌠you know?â
âTaku, itâs fine. Weââ A loud crash shakes dust and a bit of rock from the ceiling. The two adults have no reaction.
âAnother tantrum?â Taketsu asks, shoving the last of the apple into his mouth. Now upright, he stands beside Jack.
âNot this time,â Ava sounds concerned. Her strong brows knit together with worry and a small frown tugs her lips down. âYou might need to get that.â
âIt might be too early for a second one. Iâll see about something else though. Geez, and here I was hoping to keep my workshop private,â Taketsu bemoans, rubbing the back of his head. âCome on, Jack. I suppose it canât be helped in a situation like this.â
âWHAT was THATâ???â Jack flicks his gaze upwards as the ceiling rumbles loudly. So many things going on at once! And as far as Jack was concerned, Taketsu and Ava were still speaking in riddles. If Jack were in a better position to DEMAND information, thatâs exactly what he would do. But he couldnâtâobviously. A rough sigh escaped through his teeth.
âGuys, you lost me. I mean, one thingâs for sure, Iâm not trying to MESS UP your timeline, hereââ Probably a lie. âBut I wonât even have a chance to screw you guys over if Iâm allowed to leave, so Iâd think that would be to your advantage.â Confused and slightly anxious, he forced himself up and moved closer to Taketsu. âWell, I think Iâm supposed to follow YOU.â
âWell... I am the second safest place to be in the whole Temple,â Taketsu humblebrags with a slight shrug. âAnd youâre a tinkering inventor of sorts, right? I just thought youâd jump at the chance to see another like-minded personâs workshop. Plus, I need a genius master of robotics to help me on this one.â The Master places a mighty hand on Jackâs shoulder. âCan you do that, Jack?â Another rumble shakes the rafters. âScratch that. Looks like you donât have much of a choice. Ava, can you do anythi--?!â
The woman almost seems to be glowing, entranced in a deep meditative state. âIt is up to you and Jack now.â Stating the obvious much?

Now this was odd.  It felt like there was suddenly a person in Barkeyâs branches, but presently no one was outside.  He shifts, hoping whatever it is will be dislodged or frightened enough to get out.  Something glimmering falls to the stone tiles with a clatter.  Curious, a root carefully picks upâ!?  This⌠canât be!  Then that meansâ!
âKimiko? Â Kimiko, is that you?â Â Roots snake through the thicker areas of foliage, searching for the human. Â âHere, let me help you down.â
Best to send a message to Ava about this.  Ava  Ava, can you hear me?
âYes.â
We have a visitor. Â It seems to be Kimiko, buâ
âKimiko!? Â But she isnât due back here untilââ
Until the end of the month, I know. Â She has the pendant in her possession.
âOh⌠oh dear.  Then we mustnâtââ
âWhoâs that?â Â Comes the voice of a girl from down below.
âOh, Cha-Chaos, this isâŚâ
A tilt of the head. She stopped mid way through her descent. âBarky?â How strangeâŚHad the pendant just teleport her to another part of the temple? She spots the grand treeâs roots climbing up in search of her and carefully makes her way towards them. âIâm over here.â She says, hand reaching to touch the lively root.
At the sound of another, but unfamiliar voice, she looks down, blinking. Another tilt of the head. Chaos? This was definitely a person she didnât knowâŚbut Barky seemed to know them. And showed no hostility. Which means they were welcomed here. But she didnât know them. Her brow scrunched up, and she tugged at the root to bring her down already and to quench her curiosity. She spoke to the tree in a whisper. âYou know them?â
The root gently hoists Kimiko down to the paved courtyard. Once Kimiko is safely standing, the roots pull away to leave room for people to walk around without having to watch their every step.

âOh, Iâm very happy, Pahââ She doesnât even finish the syllable. Thereâs a minute pause as Ava corrects herself. The hug dissipates as slender hands move to the boyâs shoulders. âJack. Iâm very happy, Jack.â A light pat and squeeze of his shoulders before she moves opposite Taketsu.
The man reaches out for one of the baked apples and starts stuffing his face. He isnât even halfway done with the first before he takes a second one. Ava smiles at Taketsu, bemused. Lips smack as the Master finishes the first apple.
âGo home?â He glances to Ava, whose lips purse as her head tilts slightly. âI⌠suppose you can. But, donât you want your snack?â
âItâs alright if you donât want it, Jack! Taku needs to eat more.â
Taketsu chokes slightly. âIâhnghâI do not. I eat enough on my own.â
âTaku, this snack is turning into your late brunch.â
âWellâŚâ he reaches for a third, mouth still partially full. âThese turned out really good.â
âThank you,â Ava says, resting her chin on bridged fingers. âBut are you sure youâve seen enough, Jack?â
Taketsuâs chewing pauses while he shoots an annoyed glare at Ava who ignores him.
Jack was blown away with confusion. Ava was treating him like a rewarded CHILD, not an evil genius. And she kept insisting on calling him JACK, so she must know who he truly is. Why bother with the hugs and sentimental crap? She should know heâs dangerous. And what was PAHâ? Ava had been about to call him something, to state something else that she didnât finish. Frustration clawed within Jackâs chest.
So that he wouldnât be considered rude, Jack bit into the fruit snack offered to him. His eyes lit up. It was delicious! âINCREDIBLE,â he said out loud, his mouth full. Maybe, because of this awesome treatment, he shouldnât set that tree on fire â yep. Heâd leave it alone, for now.
âI came here looking for something else,â Jack admitted. And leaving the statement that vague, it was actually TRUE. He came here looking for an entire vault of Wu, only to be told they were being scattered again. âThe thing Iâm seekingâdonât think I can find it here.â Jack stood and bowed slightly. âReally appreciate the hospitality and all. Not what I expected from you guys. My outlook is definitely altered on a few things there. Iâll never FORGET it. But Iâd like to leave as soon as youâll let me.â
The seifu seem to take Jackâs request to leave as their cue to have a staring match. If one could even call it that since Ava hasnât once opened her eyes. Taketsu still glares sternly at her.
âAva, you know we canât. Much longer and he will start to alter the timeline. I canât--â Taketsu pauses as Avaâs smile widens. The Master inhales deeply through his nose, setting his snack down. âI canât allow that to happen. And what can we even do if he finds out about... you know?â
