The coat-rack was silent for so long that he began to wonder if he would answer her at all. Â Of course he had family. Â A mother, three younger sisters. Â Still at home in Villeneuve, still oblivious to his absence. Â Oblivious to his existence. Â Such was the way of the curse.
âI do,â he finally said quietly.  âAnd I understand your concern for your family.â  He sometimes felt the same way about them; but he knew that they were being looked afterâŚin one way or another.
âYouâll get to see them again,â she promised him. âIâm going to break this spell, I want to help all of you get back to your loved ones. No family should have to be separated, no matter what happened in the past.â
He wished she could see him smile; her words had lifted his spirits very much. Â
âThank you,â he replied, a little quieter than usual. Â âI believe that you will, mademoiselle.â
It was true; he had little doubt in his mind that she would lift the curse on the castle--he knew that the master was developing feelings for her, even if he was too shy to admit it. Â But what about her? Â How did she feel?
âThe castle wasnât much before you decided to stay,â he began after a few seconds. Â âBut now...people are happier. Â Even the master believes heâs found a friend in you.â
"Do you think I look good with this dress? I feel ridiculous"
Madame Garderobe really has outdone herself this time, he thought. Â He would tell the wardrobe later, after the master danced with the girl. Â
âI think you look wonderful, mademoiselle,â he replied quietly with a small bow.
What's your favourite element of my muse's personality?
silentaide:
Quite a punctual one, he thought. It was true that supper was nearly ready, but it would take a little more time for Mrs. Potts and Cuisinier to prepare it. Out loud he replied, âI will inform him directly.  But I also came on my own.â
She has probably heard much from the other servants; Chapeau imagined Lumiere and Chip had a lot to say to her, and Madame de Garderobe deserved a friend after being hidden up here for so long. Â âIf I may, I would like to ask if youâve been enjoying yourself here since the master recovered.â Now that the castle seemed like a little more than a lost ruin, that was.
âItâsâŚâ Belle hesitated, considering how to say it without hurting anyoneâs feelings. âYouâve all been very kind to me, trying to make me comfortable, and I appreciate it. Truly, I do. But I do miss my father. Weâre all the otherâs had for so long, and now heâs all alone. Iâm worried about him.â
She twisted the ring on her little finger, the one that had been her motherâs. âDo you have any family?â

Belleâs comment earned a chuckle from the aide; she wasnât the first one who thought that. Â In all honesty, he never had much to say regarding certain situations. Â If he did, the other servants usually beat him to it, and he never minded that.
âNo, nothingâs wrong,â he replied, and with a small bow, he followed her inside. He was instantly surprised at the state of the room. Â He and the others had seen Belle and the master in the library before, but he never could have imagined that she loved books this much. Â How long would it take for her to get through all of these? Â
âYouâre quite the reader,â he continued. Â âIâm guessing you didnât have much material in Villeneuve.â
âOnly the one shelf Père Robert has in the village chapel,â she answered with a sheepish smile as she reorganized the books a little more, looking up at the coatrack. âAnd your master had quite a few recommendations for me. Did he send you to get me for supper?â
The books forgotten, she re-tied the blue ribbon in her hair, securing the strands that had fallen into her face. âIf thatâs what it is, you can tell him Iâll be down in a moment.â

Chapeauâs hands were careful as he quietly shut the doors to the music room. Â The young masterâs lesson had already passed, but that never stopped the maestro from playing his harpsichord during other hours of the day. And Chapeau had always been respectful when it came to music, even before he came to work at the castle.
Speaking of, the king and queen were hosting a ball in a few weeks, and the queen had asked him, as well as the maestro and the madame, to provide some music for the evening. Â It was a simple enough request, but while Chapeau had exchanged a few words with Maestro Cadenza, they had never played together. Â He only hoped that he would be able to keep up with the maestroâs skill.
âPardon me, Maestro,â he said quietly as he approached, âif you have time, I was hoping we could practice a few pieces together.â
đź Â The Meastro
âEhâŚâ The Maestro muttered distractedly, glancing up from the harpsichord keys continuing to play the melody he was currently composing. âMi dispiace. (Iâm sorry) SiâŚâ Dante Cadenza stopped playing immediately tiling his head to the side, taking the time to survey the person standing directly in front; finding the man rather intriguing.  âBut of course! Itâs no trouble.â This was the first time the two musicians had officially met; though theyâd exchanged words in passing. Heâd heard about Chapeau and the talent the man possessed, with a violin.  âWere are my manners. A pleasure, Monsieur.â The young musician declared greeting the other man cheerfully, pushing the gold bench backwards on the stone floor, coming quickly to his feet.
âThe prospect of practicing with you, isâŚexciting.â A grin spread from ear to ear on the Maestroâs face. âWould you care for a drink before we start? Some tea perhaps.âÂ
âSame to you,â Chapeau replied, and smiled in return as he set his violin case down on a nearby table. Â âAnd tea sounds wonderful.â
During his small--but rewarding--musical career in Villeneuve, heâd played with other talented people, but none possessed instruments like harpsichords; only mandolins, accordions, and other small string instruments like his own. Â However, he has listened to the maestroâs performances before, and the prospect of practicing with him would not only be exciting, but a new experience as well.
If Gaston wants to impress Belle, he should take a few notes from this guyâŚ.
Chapeau;;
The aide nodded and went to fetch the princeâs waistcoat and jacket as he beckoned for them.  He held up the waistcoat first and opened his mouth to object to the princeâs statement, but fell silent as he raised a hand to stop him.
The difference between the man the prince was before the curse and the man he was now was growing ever larger. Â He would have loved to hear an apology from them, back when he thought highly of himself. Â Now he took the blame, shouldered a burden that wasnât his to bear alone. Â Chapeau knew what his fellow servants had said during those dark days: What if we were braver? What if we cared more? What if we were never so selfish? Â The cross wasnât just for the prince to bear; it was for everyone that lived and served in this castle. Â They were all to blame for the Enchantressâ wrath.
Even so, a sad smile spread across his face as his gaze met the masterâs. Â âAll right, sire, my apologies. Â But youâre not alone in this. Â Weâre with you.â Â And it would be that way for a long time; Chapeau was sure of it.
Adam turned slipping his arms into the sleeve holes and turned so that Chapeau could button them. Whilst the aide worked, Adam fixed the lace of the shirt before giving a sigh, watching carefully. He only guess what he thought. What all of them thought about the curse and what the consequences of it all. With a turn on his heel, Adam saw a small sad smile spread across Chapeausâ expression and then his own expression changed into one of worry.
At the assurance that he was not alone in shouldering the blame, Adam shook his head and slipped himself into the jacket looking over at the mirror. âI wouldnât resent you if you werenât.â he said with a sigh. âI am astounded that you all still wish to be here even after spending all these years trapped.â Adam paused and shook his head.Â
     âSorry, I know I can become over-melancholy with thoughts.â He said.Â
âNo trouble,â Chapeau replied as he finished. Â There were many times when he had melancholy thoughts of his own, and he found it relatable. Â He wasnât only there to serve the master, but he was there to listen as well, and listening to people was something he excelled at. Â
âAnd it shouldnât be a surprise.â Â In all honesty, he wondered why the master thought leaving here would be better for them. Â Yes, the castle was dark and terrible when they were cursed, but now, no one would have recognized it. Â Now it stood as a reminder of the time before everything went wrong. Â Like a child finding it hard to part with his childhood home, the staff couldnât bring themselves to part with this place or the man who ruled over it.
the great thing about loving minor characters is that nobody can tell me that something ISNâT true⌠cuz like⌠says who? the creators? no. in fact, the creators said nothing.

Belle opened the door, wiping back the escaped strands of her hair. âOh. Oh, my goodness, Chapeau⌠I didnât even know you could speak,â she confessed sheepishly. âYes, of course, come in.â
Sheâd turned the entire room into a city of books, stacks upon stacks of leather-bound tomes covering every available surface, making something of a labyrinth, and she had to move a few piles to clear a path for him. âIs everything alright?â
Belle's comment earned a chuckle from the aide; she wasn't the first one who thought that. Â In all honesty, he never had much to say regarding certain situations. Â If he did, the other servants usually beat him to it, and he never minded that.
