i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
If you want to do it manually instead of via layer effects and are doing digital art, then look at the R,G,B values for the colors you're working with a little bit. If you have a pure red object in cyan (B+G) lighting, it's actually going to look gray or even black because the lighting doesn't have a red component. (You can see this effect in videos showing how colored objects change appearance with depth in the ocean!) The closer your object color matches the lighting's position on the color wheel (including what's bounced), the more likely it is to be fairly close to its "default" color.
To achieve this effect in practice, I find it easiest to work from the light source as a base. I might inch the hue slider a bit towards the object color if I am okay with there being a range of colors in my light source (this is most often the case, otherwise it's monochrome and not interesting in the way we're after here), I will inch my hue just a tad in the direction of the object, and I will knock the object color towards the grays to compensate the rest of the way. If the object color is very different from the light source, it's going to get more gray and less hue shift from the light source, while an object that is closer to the light source ranges will get to be closer to its original hue and less gray.
For example, if I have a red object in cyan light, I'm not going to do much of anything to the hue since they're on opposite sides of the wheel and instead I will just drop the red to gray. If it's a very saturated red it's going to be a darker gray. If I have a yellow object, though, I'll inch the hue from cyan to maybe something a bit greener, and I'll only drop the saturation a little bit. It'll look strange if you're just starting out, but once you get more colors in it will be more cohesive. They are relative to one another, after all!
Tl;dr Most solid colored objects by and large scatter light as opposed to transmitting or emitting it, which means that they are responding to colors in the light source. If you don't have a suitably matching color in your source, your object won't respond by being the color you expect it to!
Final note, it's worth pointing out that this is true in "default" white (full-spectrum) sunlight as well, but it just so happens that full spectrum means it's got every visible wavelength in it, so there can be no mismatch between your object color and what's available from your light source!

So I’m getting back into the fandom side of PnF after being gone for like half a year, and in that time I’ve started posting my own fanfics onto Ao3. This has made me pay a lot more attention to the fics I read and how people respond to them, and I’ve come to realize that this fandom in particular is incredibly engaging?? I don’t even know how to describe it, everyone is just so nice and attentive to the small details and whatnot. Part of it is definitely because people can’t be as picky as they could be with larger fandoms, but it’s still really sweet to see and I’m so excited to see the response once I put out the first chapter of my Royal AU haha.
i think we need a pnf tag for people who don’t really care about the B plot/like the other plots more. my entire feed is doof and perry and that isnt a bad thing but WHERE ARE THE A/C PLOT APPRECIATORS AM I THE ONLY ONE

When one of their classmates asks him out, Phineas kindly tells her that he's flattered but he already has a girlfriend.
This is...news to Ferb.
Read on AO3
It wasn’t like Phineas was doing anything wrong.
Ferb shouldn’t even have known what they were talking about. He hadn’t meant to eavesdrop at the end of third period when Chloe told her deskmate that today was the day she asked Phineas out. Which means it was probably best that he and his brother didn’t have fourth together and couldn’t talk about it first. Before fifth, he caught a glimpse of them talking from down the hall. And Phineas was smiling.
Of course, anything that made Phineas happy would make Ferb happy.
But.
But he knew it would break Isabella’s heart. The best he could do was brace her for it as well as he could - he just needed more information first. And yet - Phineas had spent the whole walk home ranting about the pop quiz he’d had in geography.
“You’d think I’d be better at it, considering how many places we’ve been.”
By the time they’d reached their kitchen and Phineas had his arm in the fridge looking for snacks, Ferb was exasperated.
“So…nothing else happened after our last class together?”
“Nope.” He threw him a yogurt and grabbed a pair of spoons. “Well, Chloe asked me out, but she was cool when I told her I already have a girlfriend.”
Ferb dropped the yogurt. Phineas picked it up for him, continuing nonchalantly.
“I mean, she’s nice enough, I guess, but why would I date anyone else when Isabella exists?”
Ferb blinked.
“What?”
Ferb always chose his words carefully, but they felt particularly delicate this time. “Remind me…how long have you…”
Phineas gave him an odd look. “Uh…two months, right about? We went to the Welcome Back Dance together. You know that.”
Ferb nodded, then pulled his phone out and dialed quickly. She picked up before the second ring.
“What’s-”
“I need you to come over.”
“Who are you talking to?”
“Now. I need you to come over now.”
“Is…everything okay?”
“I need your insight on something.”
“And it has to be right now?”
“Is that Isabella?”
Ferb blinked at his brother again. “It does, yes.”
She promised she’d be right over and hung up. Phineas, for the first time, looked concerned. “Dude, what-”
He shook his head and grabbed his brother’s sleeve, tugging him into the living room. Thankfully, Phineas allowed himself to be positioned a few feet away from the couch.
There was a knock on the kitchen door and then Isabella cracked it open, calling, “Ferb? Are you okay?”
He popped his head back through the entryway and waved her towards him. In the living room, he indicated she should stand in front of the couch, facing Phineas.
He inclined his head towards Phineas.
“I don’t know why he’s being so weird about this.”
Ferb glared. Tell her .
Phineas sighed. “Chloe asked me out today.”
Isabella’s eyes blew wide for just a second, but then she swallowed and managed to look politely interested. “Oh, well…she’s pretty.”
“I…guess? But I told her no, so I really don’t understand why Ferb is turning into a Thing.”
“You didn’t tell her no,” he said. “What did you tell her?”
“I thought I handled it okay! What did I-”
Ferb waved his hand between them. Go on .
Phineas rolled his eyes. “I said that I was flattered, and she seems great, but I already have a girlfriend so I’m not interested.”
“Oh.”
Ferb, still standing in the entryway, tried to very subtly stretch his arm towards the kitchen counter.
“Ferb, you better not be reaching for popcorn right now.”
He retracted his arm.
“Should I not have said she seemed great? I didn’t want to be mean about it, but is that what I did wrong?”
“No, that sounds fine!” Isabella assured him. With a deep breath she said, “But, umm…who are you dating?”
Ferb could count on one hand the amount of times he’d heard his brother curse.
“Shit.”
He had never seen him go that pale though.
“I think you missed a step.”
“No, it’s okay!” Isabella insisted, holding her hands up. “You didn’t do anything wrong, really. I just didn’t know-”
“ Shit.”
“Although I guess I am…confused. Because when we aren’t in school and you aren’t inventing things and we aren’t with the group, you and I have been spending a lot of time together? So when did you have time to-”
“Yeah? We’ve been spending a lot of time…together...on dates?”
Ferb just managed to turn his chuckle into a cough as Isabella plopped down onto the couch.
Nodding thoughtfully, she said, “I did need something soft behind me. Nice move, Ferb.”
“You see why I called.”
“Umm…bro? Don’t you have some homework you should be starting or something?”
His brother just blinked at him again.
Phineas huffed. Then, as evenly as he could, he asked, “So you thought we were just…hanging out?” After a second, he added, “I held your hand at the movies!”
“Friends hold hands sometimes.”
“I don’t with anyone else though.”
“Sure, but you’ve been holding my hand for years , so I stopped reading anything into it.” She fiddled with the campfire charm on her bracelet. “Hang on. If we’ve been dating-”
“Since the Welcome Back School Dance,” Ferb interjected helpfully.
“Since then ?”
Phineas slapped his hand over his eyes.
“Ahem. Sorry. But…why haven’t you kissed me?”
“I didn’t want to push,” he groaned. “There was never a moment you seemed open to it.”
“Plus, he’s a giant scaredy cat.”
Phineas removed his hand from his face just long enough to glare at his brother. “Seriously? Nowhere to be?”
Ferb stared at him for a second before turning to appraise Isabella, who smiled sweetly.
“Yeah, I think I got it from here. Thank you.”
With a nod, he stood. He bumped his fist against Isabella’s before retreating into the kitchen completely.
“Phineas,” Isabella said when it was just the two of them. “I love spending time with you, but -”
“I was misreading signals and you didn’t think of them as dates.”
“I didn’t know you wanted them to be dates.”
Without uncovering his eyes, he rubbed his temple like he was in pain. “Okay, let’s just…forget this ever happened.”
“No!” Isabella sprung forward. “No,” she said more softly, taking the hand he currently wasn’t hiding behind.
“Isabella, I’m sorry.” He finally let his hand fall to his side, but he only looked at her for a moment before his gaze dropped to the floor. “Listen, the last thing I ever wanted was to make you feel uncomfortable or for things to be awkward, so–”
“Phineas! Listen: I have been waiting for you to ask me out for ten years.”
His eyebrows shot up. “You have?”
“Yes! And honestly, I’m a little upset I missed it,” she mumbled. “But you never said the word ‘date’! We had that conversation after finals about how we’d both been so busy all year that we’d barely seen each other, and we missed each other, and I thought you were correcting that problem. You were never interested in…It never seemed like…what changed , Phin?”
“I don’t know!”
He did know, he just felt very put-on-the-spot. He sighed.
“Okay: we had that talk, and then you went away to camp for two weeks, and it didn’t feel like summer started until you came back. And I knew I was going to miss you - we’d just talked about it - but I didn’t realize it was gonna feel like, like…like the sun wasn’t shining, or something.”
Isabella involuntarily sucked in a breath.
“And then you got back, and I was more excited to see you than I was Buford or Baljeet, which made sense because it had been longer since I’d seen you, but then that kept being true every day. And I started to realize I’ve always been most excited to see you, and I’ve always been most proud when I’d impressed you and most worried when you were in trouble, and…and that all made sense too! I mean, besides Ferb, you’re my best friend.”
He inhaled deeply.
“But once I started thinking about those things I also kinda…realized my skin gets all tingly when you get close to me, and my stomach kinda flips when you smile, and I kept getting distracted by your lips and-” He knew he was rambling now, but he had no hope of stopping himself. “It kept getting worse and worse - or better, maybe - all summer until I just had to do something about it, so I asked you to the Welcome Back Dance.”
He finally met her eyes. They were shining, and she was smiling a soft smile, and Phineas didn’t think he’d been this scared of anything since his sister had been kidnapped by aliens.
Gently, she said, “But we usually go to dances together. As friends. And we still spent most of the night with the group, so I thought it was just like every other time.”
He sighed. “I’m sorry. I should have been more clear. I was just really nervous, and I thought I was so obvious.”
“Maybe you were! I just spent so much time looking for signs in everything you did and feeling disappointed when nothing changed…maybe your intentions were clear and I just overcorrected.”
From the kitchen, Ferb called, “They weren’t, and you didn’t.”
“I am going to commit fratricide.”
“Oh, let him have this. He’s been wingmanning for me since we were ten and he’s just excited to see his hard work finally pay off.
Phineas blinked. “Excuse me for a sec?”
She nodded, and Phineas practically marched over to the kitchen’s entryway. “You didn’t think to mention it?” he demanded.
Ferb pointed at him and said, “Snitches get stitches.”
“Dude, that’s not applicable here!”
From behind him, Isabella added, “I can confirm: if he’d told you without being 100% sure you reciprocated, he would indeed have been getting stitches.”
Phineas rolled his eyes and shook his head a little, which Ferb took to mean, “I can’t believe how much I love these two people,” and then he disappeared back into the living room.
“In conclusion,” he said, taking Isabella’s hand again. “I want to date you. Do you want to date me?”
“...one moment, please.”
Now she made her way into the kitchen, grinning so wide Ferb thought her cheekbones might break through her skin. She squeed. She went back into the living room.
“Ask again, please.”
“Isabella, do you want to date me?”
“Yes. Yes, I do.”
“Great. So-”
Ferb groaned as the kitchen door opened again with a click. They were so close.
“Hi sweetie. Is Phineas home too? I thought we could order Indian food for dinner, since your father’s at that conference and it’s just the three of us.”
Ferb pointed into the living room so Linda peeked around the corner.
“Oh, hi Isabella. Are you staying for dinner?”
“No!” Phineas exclaimed before she could respond. More calmly, he went on, “No. I think we’re going out. I mean, I know we’re going out in the sense that we’re dating now, but I think we are going out for dinner tonight. On a date.” He smiled at Isabella. “If you’re free, anyway.”
“Oh, I’m free.”
“Well, okay then. You kids have fun. Just remember it’s a school night, so finish your homework first and try to be home by 10.”
Phineas nodded definitively. “You got it.”
“I should go finish my homework too, then.”
“I’ll pick you up at seven?”
“Sounds great.” She took a step closer and adjusted his collar. “And Phineas? Any time in the last decade when it wouldn’t have actively threatened our safety, I would’ve been open to it.”
Phineas blinked but couldn’t react before she’d stepped away, right past his mom and into the kitchen.
“So I should assume the same going forward then?” he called.
“Yep! Bye Mrs. Flynn-Fletcher!”
“Bye Isabella.” She sat down next to her middle child as Isabella closed the door behind her. “Does that mean Candace won the pool?”
“Buford is going to argue that he did, and I’m not entirely sure he’s wrong.”
“Wrong about what?” Phineas asked. He was moving slowly and obviously in a daze as he joined them at the table.
“When you asked Isabella out.”
Phineas’s expression flattened some, but he couldn’t quite stop smiling. “Any chance I’m going to live this down before we graduate?”
His brother raised an eyebrow and he knew the answer was no way in hell.
Icl, I'm actually having such a meltdown about getting older and its all cuz of Candace Flynn, guys why is she driving, why am I gonna need to start driving soon, i both want to drive but that just feels like such a future me thing, and yet i'll be able to drive in less than two months, nooooooooooooooooo
Potential reason for Phineas and Ferb to turn evil?👿
Bullied victims [Loss of trust in people]
Inventions disappear too quickly [Loss of Summer fun]
Adults don’t give them supplies [Loss of support/resources]
Mom forbids inventing after getting busted [Loss of creative expression]
Find out Perry is a secret agent and feel betrayed [Loss of trust in Perry]
Perry is forced to relocate forever [Loss of beloved family pet]

As 2nd Dimension Doofenshmirtz once said, “True evil is born through pain and loss.” Then he proceeded to explain that his backstory was that he lost his toy train as a child…🚂
So hypothetically what would be a good motivator for the boys? What could they lose that would push them to become evil?
↓ Further explanation for poll options ↓
1. The boys are victims of bullying at school (not by Buford the picture is just an example) for lots of various reasons like their weird head shapes/being neurodivergent etc and seek revenge [Loss of trust in people]
2. The “Mysterious Force” begins to take away their inventions the instant they are built BEFORE they can play/are done with them and eventually they grow more and more frustrated [Loss of Summer fun activities]
3. Adults ruin the fun when they stop giving them supplies for their projects and don’t take them seriously because they are too young (More realistic age restrictions) [Loss of support/resources and have to find alternatives]
4. Candace successfully busts the boys and Linda forbids them from inventing ever again! (Recall how not inventing stressed them out in “Bully Bromance Breakup”) [Loss of creative expression/freedom and trust in Candace]
5. The boys find out Perry is a secret agent and their shock turns to rage at this “betrayal” of being used as a “cover story” (Similar AT2D reaction but more extreme) [Loss of trust in Perry after feeling betrayed]
6. Perry is forced to relocate forever for a special mission etc and when he disappears for weeks the boys discover he was a secret agent and turn “evil” to get him back [Loss of beloved family pet since O.W.C.A. sees them as a “host family”]
These are the ones I’ve thought of! Please share your thoughts/ideas!

Okay so I watched all the eps on Disney+ and am I the only one who that Baljeet and Ferb were kind of gay? Idk I was picking up vibes and they were WONDERFUL
Which one of y’all lied to me and said that Tropey McTropeFace was going to be Ferb-centric. He got maybe 5 seconds of focused screen time, and then it was just this TropeFace guy. If anything it should be Buford-centric. I’m very saddened by the fact that my boy Ferb was robbed of a focused episode.
